1 Sept 10 or 17 YOUTH MINISTRY (Grades 6-12) Prepare and serve a meal at Christian Care Center in Rock Island. What is the best way to communicate Youth Ministry plans to you and your student? This past year we have tried to keep parents informed as to what events are being planned mainly by s. The Youth and Education Committee would like to get your thoughts on the following efforts to improve communicate. (We would continue to parents.) Would it be OK for us to and/or text directly to your child? If so please share your child s /number with Greg It is very hard for the Youth & Ed Committee to plan and schedule events with so many different school districts and student s interest at St Matthew. One thought was to have a quarterly brain storming meeting with both parents and students on Sunday morning before Sunday School like at 8:45am. The goal would be to plan 2 or 3 months ahead. Then the Youth & Ed Committee could meet and work on details. Please let us know what you think. Blessings, Youth & Ed Committee Alex Barrows Brandi Gale Pam Whittington Zach Whitmire Greg Mueller dcehog@derbyworks.net 2019 LCMS National Youth Gathering July in Minneapolis MN If you are in 7th grade ( ) this year and older you will be able to attend. This event usually will have 20,000-25,000 students from around the world. This is often called a once in a life time event. Questions talk to Greg If you need a large print bulletin or would like to use a hearing impaired device, please speak with an Usher or Lay Assistant. TODAY WE CELEBRATE THE LORD S SUPPER At St. Matthew we believe that the Lord s Supper (Holy Communion) is a ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and an expression of our unity in belief and teaching. Therefore, in Christian love we extend this ministry to baptized Christians who Have been properly instructed and confess the teachings of the Bible as taught in The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS); Acknowledge their sins and repent of their sins; Confess Jesus Christ alone as Savior from all sin; Believe with us that Christ s body and blood are truly present in, with, and under the bread St. Matthew Lutheran Church 115 West 12th Avenue, Milan IL Phone ~ Fax ~ ~ stmatthewmilan@gmail.com Web ~ The Rev. We invite everyone to sign the Record of Fellowship in each pew. Our guests are also invited to sign the guest book on the Welcome Table in the entryway. and wine; Intend, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to amend their sinful lives and forgive others as Christ has forgiven them. Guests who do not hold membership in a congregation of the LCMS are respectfully asked to visit with the pastor before or after the worship service regarding their desire to commune. Martin Luther s Christian Questions with Their Answers on pages in Lutheran Service Book is a good resource to use to prepare oneself to receive the Lord s Supper. NOTES FOR COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION Receive the bread the body of Christ in your hand. You may receive the wine the blood of Christ with either the individual cup or the common cup. Please assist with the common cup. The individual cups in the center of the tray contain reduced alcohol wine for those that need to receive Christ s blood this way. Those not receiving the Sacrament but wish to receive a blessing (including non-confirmed children) are asked to take a wooden cross from the basket next to the baptismal font. Hold the cross in front of you as the communion elements are distributed. As you then return to your pew, please place the cross in the basket next to the collection tray for individual cups.

Nevertheless, our Lord, the Father Almighty, attends to these prayers and effects life-giving mercy through them (Matthew 15:28; Romans 11:15, 29-32). Son of David and Son of God, gather us and all our fellow outcasts into Your holy house forevermore. Amen. LIFE QUOTE FOR THIS WEEK A prayer for parents for their children: Today I rededicate them to You. You designed and fashioned them, Father. Lord Jesus, You redeemed them. Spirit, You live in them. Keep them Yours now and always. Keep their guardian angels on duty, as You have promised. Help them grow into adults who will find joy in serving You and building Your kingdom. Lord, thank You for my miracle children. Pastor Mark Jeske, ( A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life OUR CHRISTIAN CALLING Luke 19:45-46 And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, [46] saying to them, It is written, My house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers. The sellers in the temple were doing the right thing in the wrong place. Being a merchant is a fine occupation that is pleasing to God. But using the Lord s House for your personal gain? That makes a mockery of what Church is for. This is God s House where we come to hear His Word and offer Him our worship and praise in word and deed. We re not looking for a profit here, we re looking to give back and support the preaching of God s Word and the Church s care for the poor and needy. LUTHERANISM IN THE PUBLIC SQUARE Issues, Etc. is a radio talk show produced by Lutheran Public Radio in Collinsville, IL and hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken. This week's topics include: Demographics of US Christianity, The Continuing Threat to Religious Liberty, Media Coverage of Religion, Inner-City Ministry and more. There has been a box placed in the entryway along with lists of examples of items to bring in. Toothbrushes, soap, school supplies, toys, clothes, and cups are just a few of the many items to bring in. Ask for donations, look around for sales and look in you own home for things that you just aren t using anymore. If items are brought in every week, just imagine how much our church can collect and use to fill boxes by the fall it will be here before we know it! Together we can make a difference in a child s life. In each box, the ministry adds biblical materials in the child s language so that they can learn about the love of Jesus Christ and then the child shares this Great News with their friends and families. We need your help to make this project a success and pack as many boxes that we can. Questions: contact Hollyne Wagner or Erin Schroeder.
