One more week to sign up: Ride a charter bus to D.C. with 50 friends. Learn about religious liberty. Worship. Study. Grow. Come home with fun stories about Coleman. How? Lutheran Student Fellowship is going to Washington D.C. January 3-7, 2017 for our "Liberty" Campus Ministry Conference! It will cost each student about $200, including the registration, hotel, and transportation. That's cheap for such a great experience. Hope YOU come along! Get more info and sign up in the student ctr narthex soon. "Trunk-r-Treat" will be October 31, 6-7pm for all community kids in the Church parking lot. Donations of candy are needed. Decorate your trunk or truck! Thanks! Thanks from the Board of Trustees... We appreciate all who took care of mowing at the Church this season: Lynn Wolfmeyer, Tom Burtch, Terry Standard, and Sally Powell; and to Ethel Docherty for all the weeding, trimming and watering she did to keep the grounds looking great. Thanks to the men and women of the Narthex Door Committee, preparing for our 60th Anniversary: Tom Quick, Tom Burtch, Bill Oliver, Terry Standard, and Sally & Mike Powell. The doors look great! We'd appreciate some help with the bushes behind the garage. If you can volunteer to trim them, please speak with Mike Powell. Thanks. The 60th Anniversary Committee requests that you sign up for the free Banquet taking place immediately after the Service on November 6. You don't have to bring anything. We just need to get a count. Please indicate how many may be coming with you. All are welcome! The Voters Assembly designated our Anniversary Offering to go to our Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Macomb. On November 6th we'll have two offerings. The first will be for the regular offerings and tithes of the congregation. The second offering will be for Loaves and Fishes, in thanks to God for His grace and truth over the past 60 years. On Sunday, October 30 we will convene a very brief Special Voters Assembly immediately after the 8:30am Service. The sole purpose will be ratification of the decisions made at the October 16 meeting, at which we were two people short of a quorum. The decisions to be ratified are: 1. approval of the July Minutes, 2. filing of the Treasurer's Report for audit, 3. election of Sam Marlow as congregational president 4. transfer of Bonnie Kinsel to Mt. Calvary (LCMS), Galesburg, 5. designating the excess funds given for the narthex doors to a new fund for Church Sanctuary heating and cooling, 6. confirmation that the cost of the Anniversary banquet (approx $500) be paid from the general fund 7. Designation of the 60th Anniversary thankoffering for Loaves & Fishes, 8. Renaming the 'parking lot' fund "capital improvement fund.' Thank you! Approximately 80 people participated in our Neighborhood Wiener Roast on October 14 at the Church. Half of them were guests! The food, the welcome, the conversations, and the volunteerism made it a wonderful outreach event. Thanks to the Outreach Board! BIRTHRIGHT NEEDS VOLUNTEERS Thinking about volunteering to help others and make a difference in our community? Birthright of Macomb would welcome you as a member. We meet four times a year to talk and make suggestions about Birthright services for expectant and new moms. You can help in various ways besides attending meetings. You can: 1) maintain the baby and maternity clothes bins, 2) create attractive labels for our clothing bins, 3) purchase supplies like diapers and formula (Birthright pays, of course), 4) work directly with clients in the office, and 5) assist with fund raising and advertising. To find out more about helping Birthright, contact Gloria Hurh at or gahurh@wiu.edu. Your prayers for the continuation of Birthright services would be appreciated. Kris Polley is slowly gaining ground. Encourage her with a card, and pray for her daily. Her address: Kris Polley c/o Four Fountains Nursing Home Convalescent Center, 101 S Belt W Belleville, IL

2 For the LWML meeting on November 1st, Diny Burnell is the hostess and Marcia Moll as the Bible Study leader. Meeting to be held at the Church. "The Lutheran Hour"... October 30: "The Best Bequest" A legacy of faith is the best bequest, giving the gift of Jesus to those who come after you. (Luke 12:19-21) November 6: "Do You Want This Blessing?" Jesus came to bless you; He takes the initiative to reach out to broken lives with His love and help. (Matthew 5:1-12) THE LORD WILLING, THIS WEEK THROUGH IMMANUEL Sunday, October 23 Christian Education (C) Monday, October 24 Preschool Class (C) Tuesday, October 25 Adult Bible Study (C) Wednesday, October 26 7:00 PM Preschool Class (C) Preschool Chapel (C) 10:15 AM Student Dinner (SC) 6:30 PM Student Bible Study (SC) 7:30 PM Thursday, October 27 God Connects Bible Study (SC) 7:00 PM Friday, October 28 Saturday, October 29 Sunday, October 30 Special Voters Meeting (C) Sunday School (C) Confirmation Reception (C) Jr. Confirmation Class (SC) 10:00 AM 12:30 PM SC =Student Center (303 N. Clay) C = Church (906 E. Grant) Sunday, November 6, we'll have a grand celebration in a single Joint Service at 10:00am at Immanuel CHURCH, 906 E Grant St. At 9:30am we'll begin with a slideshow in the sanctuary, rejoicing in our pastor, present, and future. Weather permitting, we'll then assemble outside, dedicate the new entrance doors, and enter the Lord's House for worship. We will receive two offerings during the Service: one for the regular, ongoing work of Immanuel, and a second offering for a special mission. There will be a free Banquet meal for all following the Service. In the coming weeks we'll be exploring the blessing of being a member of The Church, including a member of this congregation. Our Church Council recommended that we teach this from the "Commitment in Church Membership Form" that we've implemented in the past fifteen years. We'll focus on the promises we make, and the refuge that we receive, by walking together (which is what "Synod" means!) It's good to be "Immanuel" -- God With Us! November Teaching on the responsibilities and refuge of Church Membership My confession of faith and commitment in the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that faith in the only true God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit is the only way of salvation. I acknowledge that I am a sinner, saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, my Savior. I hold all the prophetic and apostolic Scriptures to be the inspired and inerrant Word of God, and I confess the doctrines of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, drawn from them and set forth in the Lutheran Confessions, especially the Small Catechism, to be faithful and true. With the help of God, I promise to attend the services of God s House regularly; to make use of Scripture and the Holy Communion, to contribute cheerfully toward the support of the church as God prospers me with treasure, time, and talent; to lead a Christian life in conformity with God s Word; to receive Christian admonition if Satan leads me into a life of unrepented sin and I neglect to use the Word and the Sacraments faithfully. Confessing the Christian faith with Immanuel Lutheran Church and desiring to live within its fellowship and pastoral care, I walk in the faith with Immanuel Lutheran Church! Signature Spouse s Signature (if joining Immanuel) Address & City Phone List children under 18 also joining Immanuel: Are you a member of a lodge or secret society? If yes, which one? October 23 Every day in this country such confusion and fear leads to nearly 3,000 babies being brutally destroyed through abortion. These are babies created by God, babies for whom Jesus died, and babies God wants to call into an eternal relationship with Him How can we possibly label these [issues] political and withhold the only thing that can speak to such matters of the heart? The Gospel is designed to speak to hearts: your heart, my heart, all hearts. The Gospel calls us to repentance. The Gospel cleanses our hearts and forgives the sins that flow from our hearts. Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, former executive director of Lutherans For Life A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life Your favorite programs on your Lutheran Radio Station Worldwide KFUO.org. Matt Roeglin: Thy Strong 12pm CST "Come With Me To Bethlehem" will be our Christmas play for youth and adults this Advent. It's going to be fun and Christ-centered, with parts for people of ALL ages! When should we hold it? Sunday, December 18 at roughly 4:00pm, or Wednesday, December 21 at roughly 7:00pm? Marcia Moll and I welcome your input! - Pastor Burdick Words on Generosity 2 Tim 4:6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering... As St. Paul nears the end of his life he continues to view it as something to be spent in sacrifice toward God just as he had told the Romans (12:1) to be living sacrifices. And why does St. Paul do this? Because he knows that His Lord has already won for him the crown of life. Jesus' sacrifice that purchased our salvation leads us to imitate His sacrifice in our living for Him.

8 For the LWML meeting on November 1st, Diny Burnell is the hostess and Marcia Moll as the Bible Study leader. Meeting to be held at the Church. "The Lutheran Hour"... October 30: "The Best Bequest" A legacy of faith is the best bequest, giving the gift of Jesus to those who come after you. (Luke 12:19-21) November 6: "Do You Want This Blessing?" Clay) C = Church (906 E. Rev.

9 The Messenger (Ministry Announcements) October 23, 2016 News for and through Immanuel Lutheran Church & Student Center (LCMS), Macomb, IL. Michael Burdick, Pastor * Doug Erickson, head elder. * Church office * Preschool * Parsonage * Pastor's mobile: Welcome Students! This Wednesday the 6:30pm meal is hosted by Glenn and Sue Busse. All the meals have been delicious and fun. Last Wednesday we had twelve students for dinner and Bible Study. THANKS, CONGREGATION!
