We are preparing and serving a meal for the Christian Care Center in Rock Island on Sunday, Sept. 17. We will start at 3:00pm to cook the meal, then around 6:00pm we will deliver and serve it. This event usually will have 20,000-25,000 students from around the world. This is often called a once in a life time event. Mennicke (He was a Pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Island) and his work to expand the influence of German Lutheran churches in the Quad Cities area. The talk will focus on Mennicke s surprising adve nturous life as told through his documents. The presentation will be at the German American Heritage Center on September 17 at 2 PM. Christopher was born in Germany in 1834 and came to the U.S. to study for the ministry. He arrived in Rock Island in 1861 to serve German Lutheran congregations in Rock Island and Hampton. By the time of his death, he had played a part in the growth of eleven churches. Some of the events in his life included his missing passage on a ship that went down at sea, a challenge to publicly debate another theologian, and a near miss when his horse refused to take his carriage any further after dark because of a missing bridge. Therefore, in Christian love we extend this ministry to baptized Christians who Have been properly instructed and confess the teachings of the Bible as taught in The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS); Acknowledge their sins and repent of their sins; Confess Jesus Christ alone as Savior from all sin; Believe with us that Christ s body and blood are truly present in, with, and under the bread and wine; Intend, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to amend their sinful lives and forgive others as Christ has forgiven them. Guests who do not hold membership in a congregation of the LCMS are respectfully asked to visit with the pastor before or after the worship service regarding their desire to commune. The individual cups in the center of the tray contain reduced alcohol wine for those that need to receive Christ s blood this way. Those not receiving the Sacrament but wish to receive a blessing (including nonconfirmed children) are asked to take a wooden cross from the basket next to the baptismal font. Hold the cross in front of you as the communion elements are distributed. As you then return to your pew, please place the cross in the basket next to the collection tray for individual cups.

The devil uses the illusion of autonomy to bring about death. We cannot disconnect from each other any more than God will separate from us (Romans 14:8-9). Jesus Christ surrounds us even in sin and suffering with forgiveness, compassion, fellowship, and community (Matthew 18:27) that keeps us alive (Genesis 50:20). This special LCMS program's purpose is to familiarize individual believers with the basics of witnessing to the people in their everyday lives. Rev. LWML ZONE FALL RALLY LWML Rock Island Zone Fall Rally is Tuesday September 26 at Zion Lutheran, Taylor Ridge. All Ladies are welcome. See more information on the ingathering for Rockridge Area Food Pantry, speakers and registration in the hall. MILAN CHRISTIAN FOOD PANTRY The Pantry serves residents in Milan, Southwest Rock Island, Coyne Center, Taylor Ridge and Andalusia. Although the news says the economic situation is improving, we are seeing an increased number of people who count on the food pantries such as ours to meet their nutritional needs. Since our creation in 2013 we have served over 9,000 families and 16,000 children and the average number of families served has grown from 185 per month at our inception to an average of 287 families (about 1,000 people) per month so far in We are supported by 6 local churches. These 6 churches provide financial support, food, and personal care items. We have a core of volunteers who operate the pantry twice a week. For each $1 donated we are able to purchase over 5 pounds of food! The holidays are approaching fast. We ll be asking a little more from everyone. Consider donating or volunteering. Together we can make a difference.
