2 St. Hilary of Poitiers Parish April 22, th Sunday of Easter Deacon s Corner I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. There also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd. We have come a long way as a church over the years especially since Vatican II. There was a time when our church did not foster relationships with other Christian churches. Vatican II brought about significant changes in how we viewed many things that kept us from attempting to try and bring all Christian faiths closer together. Our Church realized that if we were to ever become one as Christ said, we needed to open the doors and welcome dialogue between all faiths. Yes, it is true that this is not an easy process nor is it one that can happen overnight. But we are at least making progress. One example of this is a number of Anglican Priests have become Roman Catholic priests in more recent years. It is difficult to understand the culture of the past. We are taught that we are all children of God. If we truly believe that, then we know that Jesus doesn t love some and not others. God doesn t limit His love or blessings or goodness to one group or another. He loves everyone, the same, in every time and place, no exceptions. Jesus is at work in the hearts and minds and souls of men and women everywhere, leading them in ways we can t begin to imagine. He sees every person as one of His sheep, as belonging to His flock. In the mind of God, we are all one family, one flock. He loves us all and cares for us all. Are you capable of loving all people the same? Can you see every person as a brother or sister? Can you stop yourself from dividing the world into us and them? Let us remember we are all one of His sheep and He loves us all the same. 5 The goal of Catholic liturgy is to communicate a transcendent awareness of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ. Faith in the Real Presence of Christ In the Eucharist demand great beauty, dignity, and reverence. All of us have the responsibility to bring beauty, reverence and dignity to our celebration of Mass. The Church directs us to do this in a very simple and concrete ways: -to receive the Eucharist one must be in a state of grace, serious sin must be confessed before receiving Holy Communion. If married be married in a Valid marriage in the eyes of the Church. -fast from food at least one (1) hour before receiving Holy Communion, exceptions taking medication or other health issues. -bodily demeanor, gestures dress ought to convey respect as Christ becomes our guest. -a simple bow before receiving Holy Communion and responding Amen. -quite reflection when returning to the pew acknowledging Christ s presence, words of praise and thanksgiving and petitioning the Lord to answer our many needs. Leaving Church after receiving is not appropriate. MARRIAGE CONVALIDATIONS For Catholics a valid sacramental marriage is before a Priest and two witnesses in what is called the Forms of Marriage. If you have been married by a Justice of the Peace or in a Civil Marriage and wish to have your marriage blessed by the Church and be able to return to the sacraments, most especially, the Sacrament of the Eucharist, please call the rectory at and ask to speak to Fr.
