Devotions in honor of St. Anthony: Tuesdays following 7:30 a.m. Mass CONFESSIONS Saturday: 3:00-3:45 p.m. BAPTISMS Baptisms are celebrated during any Mass on Sunday. Preparation is required for parents. Godparents must provide a letter of recommendation if not a member of Ascension Parish. Please make arrangements 5 weeks in advance by calling the Parish Office. Catholics who do not qualify as sponsors may NOT be Christian Witnesses. NEW PARISHIONERS: Please register by calling or stopping by the Parish Office. Be sure to inform your former parish that you are leaving. MARRIAGE: Arrangements to be made at the rectory at least 6 months in advance. Church date and arrangement should precede all other wedding plans. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK: In an emergency, contact the Parish Office. For Pastoral Emergencies at United Memorial Medical Center contact Reverend Kenneth Comer of UMMC Pastoral Care at (office) or (24 hr. pager). He will contact a priest if requested. The Eucharist is taken to the homes of the sick upon request. The office should be notified of the sick and aged confined to their homes or hospital requesting a pastoral visit or Eucharist. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Will only be issued to parishioners in good standing. You must attend Mass regularly for at least three (3) months prior to the date you are requesting the recommendation for. To be eligible you must: Attend Mass Regularly (Weekly), Contribute to the well-being of the Parish, Be Fully Initiated into the Catholic Faith (You have received the Sacraments of Baptism/Confirmation/Eucharist), If married, you must be in a valid Roman Catholic Marriage.

2 PAGE 2 APRIL 22, 2018 Thank you for your continued prayers and help as Father Dave he has been recuperating from surgery. Upon this Rock: As mentioned in the August 27, 2017 bulletin, and at Mass, our parish exceeded its goal for the Upon This Rock campaign. The first distribution check for $21, was received and placed in our investment account. One of our Parish Outreach goals has been realized by the purchase of a Parish Van. This vehicle is now being utilized on a regular basis. We have been able to give passage to people in the community in their time of need and are currently transporting the elderly and/or disabled to and from Mass. We recently received our second distribution in the amount of $9, which has also been placed in our investment account. With the roof being repaired and spring around the corner (hopefully), decisions are upcoming regarding the Church Renovations and the Peace Garden. We will be including updates regarding these decisions in our weekly bulletins. Thank you for your continuing contributions to Upon This Rock. These donations are helping us to accomplish our goals. AN INVITATION! Ascension Parish s Tenth Anniversary will be celebrated with a Mass on May 9, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. All past choir members from St. Anthony s and Sacred Heart Church sites are invited to come together to sing in a FESTIVAL CHOIR for this very special occasion. (This will be onetime only - you will not be expected to sing for future Sunday Masses.) Festival Choir rehearsals will be Mondays at 7:00 p.m. on April 16, 23, 30 and May 7. You won t have to climb the stairs to the choir loft; all rehearsals will be at the piano! This invitation is also extended to any and all Ascension parishioners, family and friends. Working with the Word Fourth Sunday of Easter April 22, 2018 Reading I: Acts 4:8-12 Responsorial Psalm: 118:1, 8-9, 21-23, 26,28,29 Reading II: 1 John 3:1-2 Gospel: John 10:11-18 Focusing the Gospel Key words and phrases: Good Shepherd, lays down his life, lay down my life, hear my voice, one flock, Father loves, lay down my life, lay it down, lay it down, command I have received To the point: What is the command Jesus received from his Father? That he be the Good Shepherd by laying down his life for his sheep. That he gather all people into one flock by laying down his life for his sheep. We, Jesus' disciples, receive the same command from him. We are not to be "hired" hands but good shepherds who, by listening to his voice leading us, lay down our lives for others. In the Father's love we too gather all people into one flock by laying down our lives for others. Jesus is the Good Shepherd. So are we to be. Connecting the Gospel...to the Second Reading: Because the Father has bestowed on us great love, we are able, like Jesus, to lay down our lives for others. to experience: As human beings we have a hard time being faithful about loving. The whole Easter mystery reveals to us how utterly faithful God is in loving us. We can be faithful in our own loving because God is faithful in loving us. Will you make a special effort to ask the Lord for more vocations to the priesthood and religious life? Pray for priests who have ministered to you throughout your life, both living and deceased. Keep our parish priests in your prayers throughout the week. Encourage your children, grandchildren, or other young people to consider a vocaon as a priest or religious brother or sister. Pray a rosary for more young men and women in our diocese to respond to God s call. A Prayer of Vocaons God our Father, You made each of us to use our gis in the Body of Christ. We ask that you inspire young people whom You call to the priesthood and consecrated life to courageously follow Your will. Send workers into Your great harvest so that the Gospel is preached, the poor are served with Love, and your young people are strengthened by the sacraments. Amen
