1 St. Hilary of Poitiers Parish 820 Susquehanna Road, Rydal, PA / (NEW) sthilaryrydal@gmail.com / DECEMBER 30, 2018 THE FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY & JOSEPH
2 St. Hilary of Poitiers Parish December 30, 2018 Feast of the Holy Family Pastor s Corner Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly Colossians 3:12-17 Today we pause to celebrate the feast of the Holy Family. We pray their faith and love will remain an inspiration for all individual families. Like any family, family life for Jesus, Mary and Joseph was not perfect for them. Conflicts worries, misunderstandings they knew well.. Mary and Joseph s relationship was tested almost leading to divorce. Mary was widowed and witnessed her Sons execution on a Cross. Through it all they were bounded by Love and more importantly faith in Gods providence. May our family relationships be sealed by that same faith and love. Make the most of your time together. Rediscover the importance of the family table. The tables of pour houses are sacred places, to listen more attentively, forgive more generously, suspend judgment more quickly. We gather today at this altar, Gods most sacred table. We hear again of His favors and gifts of mercy. The food and drink of His table becomes His Body and Blood. May the lessons of mercy be applied to each family member more generously and creatively. Bear in mind the greatest gift of mercy this Christmas. God has become one like us so we can rise and become more like Him. 4 During our Advent and Christmas Season, please join us in reciting the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel. His name is recited in Scriptures as defending God s people against Satan and the forces of evil. We call upon St. Michael in our time of crisis for the Church and the world to stand against the deceits of the devil. We pray for the renewal and purification of the Church and all its members. We will recite this prayer together to conclude the petitions at Mass. The prayer to St. Michael can be found in our pews. Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray: And do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. This Christmas end a quarrel. Seek out a forgotten friend. Dismiss a suspicion, and replace it with trust.. Write a love letter. Share some treasure. Gift a soft answer. Encourage youth. Manifest your loyalty in word and deed. Keep a promise. Find the time. Forget a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Listen. Apologize of you were wrong. Try to understand. Flout envy. Examine your demands on others. Think first of someone else. Appreciate. Be kind; be gentle. Laugh a little. Laugh a little more. Deserve confidence. Take up arms against malice. Decry complacency. Express your gratitude. Go to Church. Welcome a stranger. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth. Speak your love. Speak it again. Speak it still once again. CatholicPhilly.com Stay up to date with local Catholic news from CatholicPhilly.com. John Kolla Prayer for the Return of Non-practicing Catholics O Good shepherd, You never cease to seek out the lost, to call home the stray, comfort the frightened, and to bind up the wounded. I ask you to bring all our fallen brothers and sisters back to the practice of Faith, and to remove all obstacles that prevent them from receiving your abundant mercy, which flows sacramentally through the heart of the Church. Make Your Power known the them today in every situation. Through the intercession of Mary, Mother of God, their Guardian Angels, their Patron Saints and the ever-prayerful St. Monica, may you pardon Their sins and unshackle them from whatever hinders their freedom to come Home. For You O Good Shepherd, have loved us to the end offered yourself to the Father for the salvation of all. Amen! The St. Hilary Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society Annual Giving Tree Project, benefiting Birthright in Fox Chase and St. Katherine Drexel Food Cupboard in Chester. We are very grateful for all of your continued generosity for this very special project. Many thanks to all those who gave thier time to help decorate our beautiful Church. A perfect way to prepare yourself for the coming of the Lord by giving service to His Holy Church. DO YOU KNOW YOUR TRIBUNAL? The Tribunal is available to help people who have experienced divorce and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two realities. On one hand the durable bond of marriage. This is God s law. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Even though a Catholic wedding was celebrated, perhaps there was some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved regarding intentions, understanding or ability? The annulment procedure addresses these circumstances. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please telephone the Tribunal Office at 222 North l7th Street, Philadelphia, PA (215) St. Charles Borromeo Seminary Appeal. As the first Catholic institution of higher learning established in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the history of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary is a vibrant narrative. As the St. Charles Borromeo Appeal begins, please consider joining the next faith-filled chapter of the seminary s story through your generosity. Your support provides for the seminarians and students to today, which helps nourish our hope in the future of our church. Page 5 December 30, 2018
6 Dear God, A New Year s Prayer Thank you that you make all things new. Thank you for all that you've allowed into our lives this past year, the good along with the hard things, which have reminded us how much we need you and rely on your presence filling us every single day. We pray for your Spirit to lead us each step of this New Year. We ask that you will guide our decisions and turn our hearts to deeply desire you above all else. We ask that you will open doors needing to be opened and close the ones needing to be shut tight. We ask that you would help us release our grip on the things to which you ve said no, not yet, or wait. We ask for help to pursue you first, above every dream and desire you ve put within our hearts. We ask for your wisdom, for your strength and power to be constantly present within us. We pray you would make us strong and courageous for the road ahead. Give us ability beyond what we feel able, let your gifts flow freely through us, so that you would be honored by our lives, and others would be drawn to you. We pray that you d keep us far from the snares and traps of temptations. That you would whisper in our ear when we need to run, and whisper in our heart when we need to stand our ground. We pray for your protection over our families and friends. We ask for your hand to cover us and keep us distanced from the evil intent of the enemy; that you would be a barrier to surround us, that we d be safe in your hands. We pray that you would give us discernment and insight beyond our years, to understand your will, hear your voice, and know your ways. We ask that you would keep our footsteps firm, on solid ground, helping us to be consistent and faithful. Give us supernatural endurance to stay the course, not swerving to the right or to the left, or being too easily distracted by other things that would seek to call us away from a close walk with you. Forgive us for the times we have worked so hard to be self-sufficient, forgetting our need for you, living independent of your spirit. Forgive us for letting fear and worry control our minds, and for allowing pride and selfishness wreak havoc over our lives. Forgive us for not following your ways and for living distant from your presence. We confess our need for you fresh new again. We ask that you make all things new, in our hearts, in our minds, in our lives, for this coming year. We pray for your refreshing over us. Keep your words of truth planted firm within us, help us to keep focused on what is pure and right, give us the power to be obedient to your word. And when the enemy reminds us where we have been, hissing his lies and attacks our way, we trust that your voice speaks louder and stronger, as you remind us we are safe with you and your purposes and plans will not fail. We ask that you will be our defense and rear guard, keeping our way clear, removing the obstacles, and covering the pitfalls. Lord, lead us on your level ground. We ask that you would provide for our needs, we ask for your grace and favor. We pray for your blessings to cover us, we pray that you would help us to prosper and make every plan that you have birthed in our heart to succeed. We pray that others would take notice of your goodness and could not help but to say, These are the ones that the Lord has blessed. Help us to be known as great givers, help us to be generous and kind, help us to look to the needs of others and not be consumed by only our own. May we be lovers of truth, may the fruits of your spirit be evident in our lives - your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Shine your light in us, through us, over us. May we make a difference in this world, for your glory and purposes. Set you way before us. May all your plans succeed. We may reflect your peace and hope to a world that so desperately needs your presence and healing. To you be glory and honor, in this New Year, and forever. In Jesus name, Amen.
