2 St. Hilary of Poitiers Parish December 16, 2018 Third Sunday in Advent Pastor s Corner Rejoice always The scriptures today call us to rejoice always. We may have every reason to dismiss their call given circumstances and situations in the world and our personal lives. Yet the individual we meet in the readings today knew well person tragedies and threatening circumstances. Zephaniah s county was morally corrupt and falling apart. St. Paul is writing from a prison cell. St. John the Baptist's life is being threatened. Despite all this they are grounded in hope. It is a hope realized knowing how God is in their midst. God has become flesh and blood in Jesus Christ. He too knew well of life's tragedies. Evil had its way with Him for a time. Yet His love was stronger and overcame our greatest threat and fear death itself. People in the gospel ask what are we to do? Of all the many things we must do is to live always in a right relationship with God. Revisit your prayer life, give the Lord your worship and praise. Seek His merciful love by confessing your sins. Embrace the wisdom of Christian morality then as St. Paul writes His peace will guard your hearts and minds. Coming to know and embrace Gods love, we will always be able to rejoice, no matter how impossible the situation or bleak the circumstances. 4 During our Advent and Christmas Season, please join us in reciting the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel. His name is recited in Scriptures as defending God s people against Satan and the forces of evil. We call upon St. Michael in our time of crisis for the Church and the world to stand against the deceits of the devil. We pray for the renewal and purification of the Church and all its members. We will recite this prayer together to conclude the petitions at Mass. The prayer to St. Michael can be found in our pews. This instruction should help to maintain and recognize the human body as a living temple of Gods presence. Proper respect for the deceased and their remains must always be upheld. 6 Mary s Christmas Dream I had a dream, Joseph, I don t understand it, but in it people were having a birthday celebration for our Son. In my dream people has been preparing for it for some weeks beforehand. They put lovely red berried holly and tinsel all around the house and brought new clothes. They went shopping and bought elaborate gifts. But I found it strnage that these presents were not for our Son, but for themselves. They wrapped them in beautiful paper and tied them with lovely bows and placed them under a tress, which they call a Christ Mass Tree. I did think that this must be in memory of our Son. They d decorated the tree with all sorts of colorful decorations. The branches were covered with sparkling ornaments. There was a figure on the top of the tree. It looked like a protective angel. I must say I thought it was beautiful especially if it was in honor of our Son. Everyone was laughing and happy. They were all excited and at first I thought it was excitement for our Son s birthday. But in all their celebrations I again found it strange that they never mentioned His name. How can you have a birthday where the little child whose birthday it is, is not mentioned? I had the strangest feeling that if our Son had goner to this celebration He would have been intruding. Everything was so beautiful, Joseph and everyone so full of cheer, but it made me cry for our little Son, that he was not mentioned at hid own birthday Celebration.
