THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD First Reading: Isaiah 60:1-6 Jerusalem is extolled as a place of glory and splendor because the Lord has come to His own city. Second Reading: Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6 Paul tells the Ephesians that his special mission is to make the Gentiles co-heirs with the Jews in Christ members of the same body and sharers of the promise. Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12 Herod learns that Wise Men from the East are searching for the newly born Christ Child. He instructs them to find the Child and to report His whereabouts to him. The Wise Men follow a star to the place where Mary and Jesus are and offer the Child gold, frankincense, and myrrh. They do not return to Herod but follow another route to their own country. THERESA PARISH Now that we have completed the Updating of St. Christopher Parish Census, we will continue with PHASE III of St. Theresa Census Update. Phase I began in August of 2015 with the distribution of census forms after all Masses. If you did not respond, Phase II consisted of a mailing in early We have spent the last year updating all census information for those families who responded, only about 1/3 of the parish. A second mailing, Phase III, will take place in the next week to all families who have not responded to date. As you can imagine, this has been a long and expensive process so we ask everyone s cooperation. IT IS VERY IMPOR- TANT THAT EACH FAMILY RESPOND. Do not assume that they know who I am or I m there most Sundays. If we do not hear from you, we will assume that you have moved or no longer consider yourself to be members of St. Theresa Parish. We will remove you from the parish census and further mailings. However, we will always keep your parish and sacramental records and they will always be available to you. CDS and PAMPHLETS NOW AVAILABLE December CD Who Am I to Judge? Discussing moral issues with family and friends can be a challenge in a culture that strongly promotes the idea that there is no objective truth. He also clarifies the proper understanding of what it means to judge, and the importance of making good judgments. The CD s along with other informational pamphlets and prayer cards can be found in the stand at the back of each church. A good will offering would be appreciated BUT NOT NECESSARY. If after you have enjoyed the CD and don t want to keep it, please pass it on or return it to the CD holder for someone else s use. SHOP AT CLEMENTS MARKET- PLACE AND HELP THE PARISH Clements Marketplace in Portsmouth provides donations to the church for their shopping receipts that we gather. Please save Clements receipts and put them in the baskets provided in the church. Items will be included as space permits. to: bulletin@sstandctiverton.org or in the collection basket at either parish. PASTOR S CORNER This Sunday we celebrate the feast of Epiphany. Everyone knows that the day celebrates the coming of the wise men, the kings, the magi, to the child Jesus. It is the celebration of a long and hard journey, which ends with the revelation of Truth himself. When the magi arrive they find an ordinary house and an ordinary family, not so different from ours, and the house is blessed by their arrival, and their worship, and their gifts: the gold for a king, the frankincense for worship and the myrrh for burial. The gifts express both hope and anxiety for the future. Like the Magi may we also bring all of our hopes and anxieties to Jesus. In a way these are our gifts - Gold for hope, Myrrh for our worries, Frankincense for our prayer. We cannot foresee or predict what will happen in this New Year but we can bring our hopes and concerns before Him, and He will give us strength. May Christ bless our houses, our homes, our families, and our lives, now and for ever. God Bless! MISSION TRIP TO JAMAICA We have a group of 23 preparing to go to Jamaica from June We will spend the week ministering to and serving children who are in need physically, emotionally and spiritually. We would ask for your prayers for the youth attending, the team members and for safety. Also, we would like to ask for financial help. When you do, you will be a part of the work that God is going to do in Jamaica. The expense for each participant is $950 which covers lodging and food, plus additional $480 for airfare. ELECTRONIC GIVING What do I have to do to set this up? Many of you already pay your bills electronically this is no different. Contact you banking institution to set this up. The bank will send your parish a check for the amount you have indicated on the day you have selected. Some people do this weekly, others monthly. But I won t have anything to put in the collection basket. Starting with the next budget envelope packet, there will be a box to check off on each envelope that reads I gave electronically. You can use this to place in the collection if you choose. What benefit is there to electronic giving? Giving electronically on a set schedule not only makes is easier for you it also assists the parishes when planning budgets. The budget packet will also be a budget aid to you, letting you know in advance when there is a special second collection for the parish or a Diocesan or National collection.
