Second Reading: Philippians 2:1-11 Paul urges the converts at Philippi to be united in spirit and ideals, avoiding rivalry and dissension. All members are asked to attend and please bring refreshments. BLESSING OF THE PETS In honor of St. Francis Feast Day, Fr. Shemek will be blessing our faithful companions Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 12:15 pm on St. Theresa front lawn. A gathering of animals, EVERYTHING from dogs and cats, birds, ferrets, fish and even tarantulas, are invited for this special blessing. This custom is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi love for all creatures. Francis wrote a Canticle of the Creatures, an ode to God s living things. All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures. For the safety of all, please make sure all pets are on a leash/carrier or cage. 4 SEPTEMBER 30 OCTOBER 1, 2017 PARISH FINANCES SHRED IT DAY: St. Christopher s Church, Tiverton, RI St. Christopher s Parish has partnered with Datasafe Services for a paper shredding day. The event will take place Saturday, Oct 7, from 9 am to noon. Businesses and residents of the Tiverton and surrounding communities are welcome. The paper shredding charge is $10.00 per box. Each box should weigh no more than 3035 pounds. A free will donation is requested for participants with smaller quantities of documents. The shredding event will be held in the parking lot adjacent to the church located on the corner of 1584 Main Road and Nicholson Place. (please enter off the Main Road access). OCTOBER CALENDAR Please look for our October Calendar which will be available throughout the month of September. Calendars are available in the hall after all weekend Masses. How does it work? For just $20 you have 31 chances (one for each day of the month) to win $100. Even if you win on the 1st of the month, you still have 30 more chances. Losing a child under any circumstance is horrific. Focusing on the spirituality of the grieving process can help tremendously. Emmaus Ministry for Grieving Parents is offering a one day spiritual retreat for grieving parents at St. Theresa Church/Hall on October 21, Please join us. All are welcome. To speak to a grieving parent who has attended one of our programs, please call Barbara, mother of Melissa or Diane, mother of Paul GET YOUR FLU SHOT Rite Aid will hold a Flu Shot Clinic at St. Theresa Parish Hall on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 10:30 am 12:30 pm. You must be 19 years of age or older. All are welcome. All you need is your INSURANCE CARD. If you are planning to come, please take a form found at the back of the church and fill out before you arrive. This will save you time and make the process go faster. There will be a sign-up sheet on the St. Theresa foyer bulletin board to sign up for a time slot best for your schedule. Sign up NOT necessary to receive your shot. OTHER NEWS COLUMBUS DAY Our Parish Office will be closed Monday, October 9, DIOCESE OF PROVIDENCE: RED MASS The annual Red Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 4, at 5:30 pm at Holy Ghost Church in Providence, with Auxiliary Bishop Robert C. Evans as the main celebrant. The Red Mass is held annually for those who work in judiciary and other areas of public service in Rhode Island. Father John Connaughton, Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Bridgeport, will be the guest homilist. WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER Your ways, O LORD, make known to me; teach me your paths. Many Christians and Clergy will line the sidewalks some holding signs, others quietly praying. This is a visual statement of solidarity of all who see, understand and are willing to witness to the intrinsic beauty of human life.
