He asks why God does nothing to stop the violence and misery. God assures him that a time will come when only the just and faithful will live. Second Reading: 2 Timothy 1:6-8, Paul writes to Timothy from prison and urges him to continue to spread the gospel without fear or shame. He also tells Timothy to draw upon the strength of the Holy Spirit to help him face the hardships he will encounter while preaching. Gospel: Luke 17:5-10 The disciples ask Jesus to increase their faith. Jesus replies that "faith the size of a mustard seed could transplant a sycamore," indicating that a person either has faith, strong and complete, or none at all. Jesus also explains that a servant will not receive gratitude for simply following his master's orders. In the same way, we are all God's servants doing no more than our duty when we obey God's commands. Many of you already pay your bills electronically this is no different. Contact you banking institution to set this up. The bank will send your parish a check for the amount you have indicated on the day you have selected. Some people do this weekly, others monthly. But I won t have anything to put in the collection basket. Starting with the next budget envelope packet, there will be a box to check off on each envelope that reads I gave electronically. You can use this to place in the collection if you choose. What benefit is there to electronic giving? Giving electronically on a set schedule not only makes is easier for you it also assists the parishes when planning budgets. The budget packet will also be a budget aid to you, letting you know in advance when there is a special second collection for the parish or a Diocesan or National collection. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS The Catholic Faith Communities of St. Theresa & St. Christopher are offering RCIA sessions to anyone interested in/or considering becoming a member of the Roman Catholic Church. These sessions are also offered to those who have received Baptism but have not yet received First Eucharist and/or Confirmation. BCI/SAFE ENVIRONEMENT TRAINING St. Theresa and St. Christopher Parishes are required to conduct Safe Environment Training and Back Ground Checks (BCI) on all volunteers who are in contact with children. The BCI is good for 3 years. The next session will be held on Tuesday, October 4 th at 6:3pm at St. Theresa Rectory. If in your ministry to the parishes you are in contact with children, please make every effort to attend this session. Please call the rectory if you are not sure. These sessions are mandatory and required by the Diocese and the State of R.I. Please bring a picture id (driver s license is best). BETHLEHAM CHRISTIAN FAMILIES Next weekend, our brothers and sisters representing the Bethlehem Christian Families, a nonprofit organization through Land of Peace, will be here, selling crucifixes, religious art work and rosaries, all made of olive wood which is native to Israel and Bethlehem. Since tourism has greatly depleted, Christian families in the Holy Land who depend on tourists, have been greatly affected. The goal of this mission is to build a Charitable Hospital in Bethlehem and help the poor and needy families. Sale of these goods will help them very much and also give you a chance to have something authentic from the Holy Land. Please come out and browse and buy some articles for yourself or a gift for someone else. This would make a wonderful gift for Christmas, a Baptism, First Communion or Wedding. For more info - PASTOR S CORNER All three readings for this Sunday speak a lot about "Faith and how it works in our lives. Charles Blondin, the French tightrope walker became world-famous in June of 1859, when he walked on a tightrope stretched over quarter of a mile across the mighty Niagara Falls. He became the first person to accomplish this amazing feat. He walked across 160 feet above the waterfalls several times, each time with a different daring feat - once in a sack, on stilts, on a bicycle, in the dark, and once even carrying a stove and cooking an omelet! A large crowd gathered and a buzz of excitement ran along both sides of the river bank. The crowd Oooooohed! and Aaaaahed! as Blondin carefully walked across one dangerous step after another -- blindfolded and pushing a wheelbarrow. Upon reaching the other side, the crowd's applause was louder than the roar of the falls! Blondin suddenly stopped and addressed his audience: "Do you believe I can carry a person across in this wheelbarrow? The crowd enthusiastically shouted, "Yes, yes, yes. You are the greatest tightrope walker in the world. You can do anything!" "Okay," said Blondin, "Get in the wheelbarrow..." The Blondin story goes that no one did although all had faith in his ability! In today s Gospel, Jesus challenges his disciples to have such a Faith in him so that they may work miracles in their lives. Let us pray today to increase our faith at all times. We need faith to preserve in good works, we need faith in order o remain steadfast during difficult times in life and we need more faith in order to trust in God s will and judgment. So we should humble ourselves each day to say: Lord increase our faith. May God Bless you and Go Pats! REMINDER.
