The Next Baptism Preparation Session will be held on Mon., Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Community Room. Worldwide Marriage Encounter For the world in its present form is passing away. In the event of bad weather, the pantry will not open as scheduled if the East Providence schools are dismissed early or are closed for the day. Cold and Flu Season As we enter the cold and flu season, this seems an appropriate time to suspend the reception of the chalice at Mass If you have a bad cold or flu, you are dispensed from the Sunday Mass obligation. Also, at the Sign of Peace, simply acknowledge your fellow parishioners with a friendly nod or gesture. Hand disinfectant is available at all the doors of the Church.

5 January 21, 2018 The Pastor s Corner Deacon Needham last week provoked us to answer the question in the Gospel of John, What are you looking for? Today we have the call of the first Apostles in the shortest gospel, Mark. The optic is very different. The two sets of brothers, Simon/Andrew, James/John, are already in their boats casting or repairing their nets. Either the person of Jesus, or his message compelled these fishermen to abandon their fishing and to follow Him. Whatever happened.it s impressive! Come and see! These words are extended to families and students to visit St. Margaret School. OPEN HOUSE is next Sunday, January 28 th from 10 AM - Noon (perhaps before or after Mass), as well as on Monday, January 29 th or Thursday, January 1 st from 10 AM Noon to see the school during these two Drop In Days. Share this invitation with your family and new neighbors. Pope Francis arrived in Chile this past Monday on a 6 day pastoral visit to that country and Peru. We pray for his safety especially with some recent bombings of Catholic Churches in Santiago. On Dec. 8 th, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Pope Francis offered a prayer for the City of Rome at the Piazza de Spagna. In light of the social angst in these challenging times, Pope Francis prayer may touch us: Oh Mother, help this city (i.e., Rome) develop the antibodies against certain viruses of our times: The indifference, which says: It doesn t concern me ; the civic bad manners that despise the common good; the fear of he who is different and foreign; conformity dressed up as transgression; the hypocrisy of accusing others, while doing the same things; the resignation to an ethical and environmental degradation; the exploitation of many men and women...
