TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Jeremiah 20:7-9 In this particularly poetic passage, Jeremiah complains that while teaching the Lord s word, he is subjected to insults and derision. He determines to remain silent, but he cannot because the desire to speak the Lord s name is like a fire burning in my heart. Second Reading: Romans 12:1-2 Paul tells the Christians to make sacrifices to avoid the trappings of the times, and to do God s will. Gospel: Matthew 16:21-27 Jesus tries to make his disciples realize that by following him, they will endure suffering, degradation, and death. He tells them that they must deny themselves and take up the cross in order to be his disciples. DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET: 3:00pm on Tuesdays at St. Christopher Church. 3 Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time FAITH FORMATION YOUTH REGISTRATION The youth of our parishes have been building the relationships with one another and God. They began the summer with altar server training and a field trip to Six Flags! In August, many youth of our parishes volunteered their time and talents at the Feast and Bible Camp. Mrs. Swass and Ms. Kelsey were very impressed by our dedicated youth that mentored our younger parishioners as they discovered the power of God at Vacation Bible Camp. Registration for Fall classes in our Faith Formation program is nearing the end. Staff will be available next Sunday, September 10, 2017 after the 11 mass for any last minute registrations. Class schedules will be sent out by to all registered students this coming week. Depending on grade, classes will begin on either Sunday, September 17 or September 24. Please complete one form for each child you register and return with fees and any sacramental records if you are new to our program. Please return all forms to the Office at 265 Stafford Road, Tiverton, RI CATECHETICAL SUNDAY We celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 17th. There will be a special blessing for all our Faith Formation catechists as they begin the new school year. FIRST EUCHARIST If your child will be 6 years old by September 1st, she/he is eligible to enroll in the 2 year program in preparation for First Eucharist. Please use the Faith Formation registration form found at the back of each church and include a copy of your child's baptismal certificate if she/he was not baptized at either St. Theresa's or St. Christopher's. If you have any question, please call St. Theresa/ St. Christopher Office at for assistance. Throughout the summer, participants of Youth Group on Monday evenings have unified under various topics that are applicable to their life. For example, a roller coaster was constructed to model life's challenges and support we receive in the power of prayer and guidance from the church. These young adolescents have voiced interest in volunteering at a soup kitchen and animal shelter this fall. We are currently planning for these service opportunity and invite parishioners to join us! We are excited to begin our religious education classes on September 17th. We invite all youth to join our Youth Group on Monday evenings, 6-8 in St. Theresa's hall year round. Please stay tuned for more great work from our amazing youth! Interest RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is intended for any individual who freely seeks the living God by receiving the Sacraments of Initiation. THERESA MEMORIALTREE Often a family will inquire about what they need to do to have the name of a loved one added to the Memorial Tree located at the back of the church by the Confessional. Our Memorial Tree was planted in 2003, when St. Theresa began the expansion and remodel of our church. We are blessed with such a beautiful church because of the generosity and sacrifice of so many parishioners. Anyone who donated $1,500 or more could add a leaf to the tree. Jude currently resides at St. Brendan Church in Riverside. He is new to our diocese so give him a very warm welcome. OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL SCHOOL Our Lady of Mount Carmel School is a coeducational elementary school, located in Bristol. The core of their mission is to develop the hearts and minds of the students to know, love, and follow Christ Jesus. The school offers a standards-based curriculum through which the teachers integrate Gospel values. All practices and policies are student centered creating a loving and safe community. Limited seating so call now: or For details and tickets you can also go to: SUPPORT GROUP The La Salette Retreat Center in Attleboro is the location for a new bi-weekly support group for separated and divorced persons. Our next meeting will be Tuesday September 12th from 7pm-8:30pm and subsequent meetings will be held every other Tuesday evening. Dorothy Levesque (Spiritual Director) will be leading the group. Currently, there is no continuous active ministry for Divorced and Separated people in the Diocese of Providence. This group is designed to fill that gap. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact me at or Dorothy Levesque at Diocese to Host Blue Mass to Honor and Pray for Police, Fire and First Responders The Diocese of Providence will host a Blue Mass for Police, Fire and First Responders on Sunday, September 24, at 10:00 a.m. in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul. Auxiliary Bishop Robert C. Evans will be the main celebrant of the Mass with other priests of the diocese concelebrating. Everyone is invited to come together to honor these men and women for their courageous service and pray for their safety. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one s life for one s friends.
