Announcements The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is on Thursday, December 8. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. (with the children of St. Margaret School) and at 5:30 p.m. The Parish Staff will meet on Thursday, December 8, at 3:00 p.m. in the Rectory Conference Room. St. Margaret's Annual Breakfast with St. Nicholas & Christmas Bazaar will be held on Saturday, December 10, in McCaffrey Hall at St. Margaret School. This is a wonderful community opportunity to meet and have photos taken with Santa Claus while shopping for Christmas gifts from local vendors. Santa, shopping and crafts are free for all to enjoy. To enjoy a hot, buffet breakfast, tickets must be purchased in advance. If you have questions, please contact Kristen Scho at kescho 03@gmail.com or The annual St. Margaret Parish Christmas Concert and pageant will be held on Sunday, December 18, at 4:00 p.m. in the church. Proceeds from a collection will benefit the Bread of Life Food pantry. This annual concert has become a holiday tradition for many, so plan to arrive early. The Rumford Lions wish to thank all parishioners of St. Margaret s who helped to make their recent coat drive a success. 3 St. Margaret Parish Ministries Second Sunday of Advent On Monday, December 5, St. Margaret Parish will hold an Advent Penance Service beginning at 7:00p.m. in the church. Experiencing God s forgiveness is a wonderful Advent practice in preparation for Christmas. Msgr. Darcy will be joined by Frs. Jeremy Rodrigues, Jonathan DeFelice OSB, David Thurber, and Bernie O Reilly for the Penance Service. Join us in preparation before God for the great Christmas event! The Next Baptism Preparation Session will be held on Mon., Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Community Room. Parents should be registered parish members and commi ed to sharing their Catholic faith and its practices with their growing family. Godparent or Confirmation Sponsor Form: Have you been asked to be a godparent or confirmation sponsor? If you have, please know that you will be required to be a registered parishioner of Saint Margaret Church for six months before we can issue a le er in good standing as required for sponsors to indicate they are striving to practice their faith by regular worship, as well as by being in good canonical standing and living lives consistent with Gospel values. Homebound During the holiday season, a list of homebound parishioners will be available at entrances to the church. We encourage you to send a card or greeting to our fellow parishioners who are not well enough to a end church regularly. The holidays can be a lonely time for those who may feel isolated; a card or greeting will let them know they are remembered in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you! Parish Giving Tree If you are participating in the Parish Giving Tree, please be sure to bring your unwrapped gifts, along with the gift tags to church no later than next weekend, December 10/11. The gifts will be given to children from area schools and Children s Friend & Service. Thank you! Bread of Life Food Pantry Pantry will be open Dec 13 and Dec 20, from 5-7 p.m. In December only, the pantry will be open the second and third Tuesday, to accommodate the Christmas season. Please remember to bring non-perishable food items to Mass each week. Monetary Contributions can be made to Newman Congregational Church with Bread of Life Food Pantry wri en in the memo section; mail the check to Newman Congregational Church, 100 Newman Avenue, Rumford, RI THE SOUNDS OF THE SEASON The school will celebrate First Friday Mass at 9:00 a.m. on December 2. Student Council officers will be installed before the end of the Mass. All parishioners are welcome to join the students of St. Margaret for this First Friday observance. Mark your calendars now for the Annual St. Margaret School Christmas Concert Tuesday, December 13-7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of East Providence High School. On Sunday, December 11 th at 3:00 p.m., the Gregorian Concert Choir, the Prout High School Chorus and Festival Orchestra will present a concert entitled, The Sounds of the Season in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence. The concert will feature the music of Advent and Christmas to benefit Bishop Tobin s Keep the Heat On Campaign. Proceeds raised from the concert provide heating assistance for struggling individuals and families who have exhausted all other public and private aid. Tickets for the concert are $10 per person and may be purchased by calling the Cathedral office at (401) (Tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the concert).

4 Retirement Fund for Religious December 4, 2016 Senior Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests have offered their lives in service to others educating the young, comforting the sick, seeking justice for the oppressed. Today, many are frail, elderly, and in need of assistance Next week, the second collection will be for the Retirement Fund for Religious, which helps with medications, nursing care and other necessities. 5 December 4, 2016 The Pastor s Page The first words of the Hebrew Scriptures are quite familiar: In the beginning The great prophet, Isaiah, whose influence reached through 60 years (about BC) is used during the Advent Season. He looks back to the beginning when there was harmony and peace in creation: It sounds like a Kumbaya moment again: wolves sleeping with lambs, leopards with goats, calves and lions all getting along together! Isaiah foresees a return to the beginning of creation; idyllic, longed for with full yearning There will be no harm or ruin on all my holy mountain. Alongside Isaiah, the other iconic personage of Advent is the fiery John the Baptist. He would not have been the first person ever to emerge from a transformative experience in the desert. His preaching challenged both the humble and the mighty. The latter group committed the sin of presumption: the word is even used in today s Gospel. Their high priestly and legal status really didn t matter before God. Many of the humble heard John s words (and those of Jesus) and repented; it would appear that most of those of significant and social means, merely presumed they were saved. No doubt, many of the self-righteous ultimately were surprised! This Monday at 7:00 p.m., members of the parish will be offered the opportunity to confess their sins and celebrate life anew. Do not presume your righteousness before God; and do not be afraid. You do not have to come to me for Confession just come as your personal preparation for Christmas. IF there are any Giving Tree tags still on the trees at the entrances of the Church, please take them. Return all your gifts unwrapped to the community room by next Sunday, December 11th!
