Please contact our Church Office, Mondays 9am to 12noon, at TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Isaiah 25:6-10a This passage describes the new Jerusalem as a heavenly banquet on the mountain with the Lord God wiping away all tears. Second Reading: Philippians 4:12-14, In simple, direct words, Paul thanks the Philippians for alleviating his hardships. He stresses, though, that he is as accustomed to poverty as to abundance and finds all his strength in Christ. Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14 Once more speaking to the chief priests and the elders, Jesus relates the parable of the wedding banquet. A King, preparing a wedding banquet for his son, summons all the invited guests. When, after several invitations, no guests arrive, the King commands his servants to go out into the byroads and invite anyone you come upon. He discusses how holy men and women worked from within the Church, as they do in every age, to bring forth much-needed reform. Hear how necessary changes were brought about by holy heroes such as Giles of Viterbo, St. Ignatius of Loyola, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Charles Borromeo and others. 4 OCTOBER 14-15, 2017 PARISH FINANCES OCTOBER CALENDAR Please look for our October Calendar which will be available throughout the month of October. Calendars are available in the hall after all weekend Masses. How does it work? For just $20 you have 31 chances (one for each day of the month) to win $100. Even if you win on the 1st of the month, you still have 30 more chances. Winners for the first two weeks of October will be listed in next week s bulletin. ELECTRONIC GIVING What do I have to do to set this up? Many of you already pay your bills electronically this is no different. Contact your banking institution to set this up. The bank will send your parish a check for the amount you have indicated on the day you have selected. Some people do this weekly, others monthly. But I won t have anything to put in the collection basket. There is a box to check off on each envelope that reads I gave electronically. You can use this to place in the collection if you choose. What benefit is there to electronic giving? Giving electronically on a set schedule not only makes it easier for you, it also assists the parishes when planning budgets. The budget packet will also be a budget aid to you, letting you know in advance when there is a special second collection for the parish or a Diocesan or National collection. WEEKLY FINANCE REPORT Due to the timing of the print date of our bulletin with our publishing company as well as the holiday, our bulletin went to print before our contributions were tallied. Each year, the entire Church is invited to support the young mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacifi c Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the poorest of the poor. This year, we are invited to Chat With The Pope to learn more about his missions. CHRISTOPHER EFT USERS St. Christopher Parishioners who use EFT for their parish contributions are asked to contact their banking establishments for a change of address. As of early August, both parish offices have been combined. We have requested a change of address with the Post Office. But there has been a delay in the mail being delivered. Therefore, we ask you to continue making the check out to St. Christopher Church, but change the mailing address to: St. Christopher Church 265 Stafford Road Tiverton, RI VOLUNTEER NEEDED Volunteers are needed to oversee the Altar Server robes at St Theresa Church and St. Christopher Church. The Group meets the last Thursday of the month at 1:30pm in the Library at Brookdale/Sakonnet Bay Manor, 1215 Main Road, Tiverton. This is merely an opportunity to learn a myriad of techniques for caring for an individual with memory challenges. Serving the Spiritual Needs of Grieving Parents A ministry for parents whose children of any age have died by any cause. Losing a child under any circumstance is horrific. Focusing on the spirituality of the grieving process can help tremendously.
