She was in her 101 st year. Her funeral will be here in church on Wednesday, 28 October at 12.30pm. Songs of Praise : Sunday 18 October 4.15pm The hymn "Come People of the Risen King", sung at this year's Keswick Convention, will be shown on Songs of Praise today! The episode will be broadcast on Sunday, 18 October at 4:15pm on BBC One and BBC One HD. Monday Night Ladies Group : Monday 19 October 7.30pm Our second meeting is at the home of Joan Rutherford, 22 Springs Road, when Bob Bryden will tell us about the Keswick Street Theatre Group and all that it has done to entertain us over the years. 3 Church Duties Rota for November & December If you do any of the duties on the rota, I d be grateful if you could let me know any dates you are not available, as soon as possible please. If you aren t on the rota at present, but feel you d like to serve the Church in some capacity, please have a word with me or one of the other church stewards. We can always do with more volunteers for Welcome Stewards, tea and coffee, counting the collection and the Traidcraft stall. Thank you. Sheila Files (79253) Vision21 Redevelopment Launch Weekend What a great weekend it was! A very big "Thank you" to all who worked so hard to make it such a success - too many to mention. We had many positive comments about the plans for our Redevelopment Project and people in Keswick will now be much more aware of what we re planning to do. The refreshments were delicious, especially the celebration cakes, and the ceilidh was good fun. The two services on Sunday were both uplifting and enjoyable, and just what we needed to take us forward. Look out for future notices about what we are doing next! Sheila Files Saturday Chat with coffee etc This is a new monthly fundraising venture on the second Saturday of each month beginning on 14 November from 10am to 12noon. As part of the event we ll have a book box where people can exchange books for a 50p charge. Our fundraising goods will also be on sale. Volunteers are needed to help serve coffee, wash up and generally make people feel welcome and at home in our premises. Most people will be able to do something to help so, if you are willing, please give your name to David or Anne Hasson so that we can work out a rota which won t be too onerous on anyone. Initial dates will be 14 November, 12 December, 9 January, 13 February and 12 March.

4 Puddings A big thank you to everyone who has purchased puddings during the last few weeks - your support has been really appreciated, and about 200 has been raised so far. I still have all varieties available and these can be bought on a Sunday morning (see myself, Anne, Sheila or Richard) or at future fundraising events in the weeks leading up to Christmas. If you have any queries or need any information about the puddings please don't hesitate to contact me. 5 Refugee Crisis Update Our donations to Christian Aid s Refugee Crisis Appeal during the last three weeks totalled 305. And 295 of this was Gift Aided. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the appeal. Christian Aid continues to work with its partners in Europe and the Middle East. The charity has released 100,000 in emergency funding in Europe. In Greece, Christian Aid s partner IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities) is working on the Greek islands with refugees arriving from Turkey. They are providing sleeping bags, food, water and baby kits, and are working to improve conditions in reception centres. In Lebanon and Iraq Christian Aid s partners are providing food, hygiene items, infant kits, fuel for cooking and cash assistance as well as psychological support to help people process what they have seen and experienced. In addition, Christian Aid believes that the UK must resettle its fair share of the most vulnerable Syrian refugees who are still living in the region. They consider that 20,000 over five years is simply inadequate and are urging the UK government to put in place safe and legal routes by which those seeking asylum from the region can do so. For more details, see the Syria Crisis Appeal pages on Christian Aid s website. Roy Ellis Brigham s Craft Fair: Brigham Methodist Church invite you to the Craft Fair on Saturday 7 November 10am-4pm. Why not have a run out and enjoy buying some crafty Christmas presents for others or yourself! Tea and coffee available and if you re there between 11.30am and 1pm you can have soup and fresh bread. Crafts include soft toys, scented candles, tote bags, cushions, tea cosies, wall hangings, jewellery, greetings cards.

6 Christmas Shoe Box Collection It s that time of year again! There s a box at the back of church for any items you wish to donate for the shoe boxes. It ll be there till the end of October. Suggested gifts are: New Toys: Dolls or stuffed toys (with CE label), toy trucks, harmonica, yo-yo, skipping rope, ball, small puzzles etc. New School supplies: Pens, pencils & sharpeners, crayons or felt pens, stamps & ink pad sets, writing pads or notebooks & paper, solar calculators, colouring & picture books etc. New Hygiene Items: Toothbrush and toothpaste, bars of wrapped soap, comb or hairbrush, flannel. Other (all new): Hat, cap, gloves or scarf, sunglasses, hair accessories, jewellery set, wind-up torch, wrapped sweets (best-before-date must be at least March 2016). We don t need any shoe boxes as these are already provided only the gifts to go in them. Thanks. 7 News from friends: Ron and Jean Horne send their regards to all. They ve been caravanning at Threlkeld. Both look and sound extremely well. Wilf and Freda Chambers have been staying for three months with their son Kevin. There s not been much change in their condition and so they re now both in sheltered accommodation in Newton Stewart, 5 minutes away from their son. Their address is Ashgrove Court, Newton Stewart DG8 6T. Travels of the I KESWICK bag This week the bag s continued its visit to USA. It s also been to Hong Kong and Italy and spent more time in the UK: Lounging in a deckchair in Puglia, southern Italy with Sheila Files. In San Francisco with Martyn Evans looking out over the Golden Gate bridge. The Newlands Round with Helen North (Catbells, Maiden Moor, Dale Head, Hindscarth & Robinson) including being given a donation to Vision21 by a lovely lady on the top of Dale Head! In Kowloon overlooking Hong Kong harbour with Ian Gray (Joyce s son). On the ferry cross the Mersey in Liverpool with Sally Lunson. 8 To all our visitors You re very welcome to our church today. We hope you enjoy worshipping with us. Please sign our visitors' book and put a pin on the map which is in the Grisedale Room (as you came into church). We d welcome any suggestions you might have to help us improve our hospitality. Children are welcome in our services. A box of toys and activities is available if you need them. If you prefer, you may sit in the Grisedale Room, where you ll still be able to hear the service. Loop System: We have a loop system for those who wear a hearing aid. Hymn Books: We normally sing from Singing the Faith and most Sundays the words are projected onto the screen.
