2 CANDLELIT CAROL SERVICE A Festival of Lessons and Carols This evening at 5.00 pm Led by the Rev Helen Kirk A WARM WELCOME IS EXTENDED TO EVERYONE. Many, many thanks to all those groups who put a tree into this year s Festival, and also to all those who helped on the day. The grand total raised for the new Welcome Area was 1,100, so well worth everyone s efforts. Our thanks also go to Ken Kole s Merry Old Souls who played carols for us during the day - that was much appreciated. Please have a look at the Greetings Card Campaign information in the Welcome Area, and help yourself to a case sheet. Just follow the instructions and send a greeting to someone, to encourage them in their struggle and lift their spirits. Please note that there will be NO NOTICE SHEET for Sunday 30 th December. If you have any urgent notices for that Sunday, please ask one of the Stewards to announce them. J Team will be taking a two week break over the holiday (Dec 30th and Jan 6th). The CHRISTMAS POST BOX in the Welcome Area. Please check to see if there any cards for you!!! They are not delivered to people, so if they are not collected, they will be thrown away after Christmas. 3 New Years Walk: Here are the details of this year's walk, which will take place on Saturday 29th December. Please meet at the recreation ground in Aylesbury Road, Wendover, ready for a 10.30am start. It's on the left as you enter Wendover from Aylesbury. Parking is either in the adjacent layby or in nearby side roads. The walk is a level one (a change from last year!) taking in the disused Halton Camp railway line, the Wendover Canal and Halton village. En route you can read about the history of the Camp and Canal. There is only one traditional style. Walking boots or Wellingtons are essential. The walk should finish before giving time to get to the Hardern's house by 12.30, at 82 Wendover Road, Aylesbury, for a welcome lunch. 5 GOOD NEWS FROM AROUND THE CIRCUIT SWANBOURNE Dear All This Sunday, 16 December, it is the turn of Swanbourne to be the focus of our Circuit Prayers. Swanbourne is a lovely village chapel and there is a wonderful photograph on the Net of the "Harvest Festival in the 'Primitive Methodist Chapel' in 1908" (Link below). The building projects the same well-loved and cared-for appearance today as it did then - do come along on a Sunday, when you are sure to get a warm welcome, and please pray for the people and the work there this Sunday. Service details are on the website. Pete We are in good heart at Swanbourne Chapel. We have been working on our 5-year plan for growth, and are carrying out a consultation with our congregation and Sunday School members. We are already identifying folk in the village who might be encouraged to share in the worship of God with us, and this has already met with some success, as we have have had several new local people joining in our evening service. Our recent Christingle service saw a full chapel, with an age range from a few weeks to the mid-70s. We have also valued the presence and support of members from other chapels who have joined us for our evening services - with over 100 people having participated in services here since July. The chapel has also seen a major development, in that, over the last few months, it has frequently been used during the week for training First Responders and First Aiders by a couple living in the village, whose sociallyuseful business is drawing trainees from across the country. We ask you to pray particularly for our last service of the year on 30th December, when, alongside our worship of God, we hope to use our Local Arrangement as an opportunity to draw the results of our consultation into a plan for the future. 6 STONE GOOD NEWS FROM AROUND THE CIRCUIT Dear All Last Sunday 9 December it was the turn of Stone to be the focus of our Circuit Prayers. Stone has an amazing chapel, rarely seeming to be unoccupied, as you can tell from the list of functions that take place there, and full of amazing people. Please support them whenever you can, join them for worship (or lunch!) and remember them in your prayers this Sunday. Pete While low numbers of worshippers for Sunday Services is an ongoing concern, we at Stone remain in good heart as our Chapel building remains a centre for village activities and fellowship. The last First Sunday Café before the winter break went with a bang bangers [sausages] in buns, that is with a nod to 5th November in sparklers on each table! The first two Saturdays of December are the dates for the ever-popular Soup Lunches for Action for Children sorry, you ve missed this year : book now for 7th and 14th December 2019! New members have joined the monthly Fellowship meeting and everyone is looking forward to the Christmas Lunch and afternoon Service; some lucky folk will enjoy two lunches if they also belong to the Thursday Social Club which meets in the Chapel. Our new gas cooker purchased and fitted with the funds raised by the First Sunday Café will be put to good use. A very special date which everyone enjoys is the Coffee and Carols morning 0n 12 th Dec, hosted by regular hirers, Sees the Day Group and their helpers, when we all enjoy hearing the Christmas story, sing favourite carols, drink good coffee and munch luxury mince pies. To help the Plan makers we now have a lay-led Café Church on the last Sunday of each month; this informal but worshipful Service is much enjoyed and we are grateful to Julie Maguire who leads with a Thought for the Day and always gives us much to ponder. As usual, one or two of us will be outside our village shop and Post Office pre- Christmas week to distribute invitations to the Carol Service on 23rd December led by Keith our Minister and we hope this will encourage folk to join this always special Service. Looking ahead to the New Year, we will be meeting as a congregation to address the Plan for Growth initiative and the prayers of our Circuit friends are much valued. Sue S.
