ANOINTING OF THE SICK: If you are anticipating surgery or are sick or homebound and would like to be anointed, please contact a Priest or the Parish Office. ADULT INITIATION: Adults are received into the Church through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) usually celebrated at the Easter Vigil after participating in a process of Christian formation and education called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). Please contact the Parish Office for more information. CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE: Couples wishing to be married at MQP should contact the parish as soon as possible after engagement and at least six months before the proposed wedding date. At least one of the couple should be a practicing Catholic, registered and living in the parish. A program of marriage preparation is required. Please contact the Pastor or the parish secretary for more information. VOCATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD AND RELIGIOUS LIFE: Any young man interested in the priesthood or any young person interested in the religious life is encouraged to contact the Pastor or to call the Archdiocesan Vocation Office at All Catholics are called to pray for an increase in religious vocations. We will gather as a parish family for Eucharist at 9:00am on Thanksgiving morning. (There will be no 6:45am or 8:00am Mass that day.) Mindful of those who do not share our bounty, all are asked to bring canned goods and other food items for our Society of St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. In addition, the collection on Thanksgiving Day will be solely for our Society of St. Vincent de Paul and their work with the poor in Ferguson and our own community. The Parish and School Offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 22 and 23 and will reopen on Monday, November 26.

3 A NEW WEEK FR. JOHN VIEN THIS WEEK AT MQP... In this month of November, when we honor All the Saints, it is a particular honor for Catholics in the Archdiocese of St. Louis to honor one of our patrons, St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, as we celebrate the Bicentennial of her arrival in the United States of America and her coming to St. Louis in 1818 and her feast day next week, November 18. Rose was born in Grenoble, France, where her parents were prosperous merchants. As a young woman, she joined the Order of the Visitation. Shortly afterward, the French Revolution began, and all convents and monasteries were closed. Rose went home to her parents, where she spent her time teaching neglected children and caring for the sick and the dying. She treated them all as if they were Christ. When the war was over, Rose and a small group of nuns from her convent joined a new religious order, the Society of the Sacred Heart. This brought her a spiritual director and lifelong friend, Mother Madeline Sophie Barat, who herself was canonized a saint after her death. At the age of 49, Rose was sent to the United States with five other sisters. They had been invited to assist the Bishop of St. Louis, Louis William Valentine dubourg, with religious instruction in this new and expansive diocese. Rose founded a convent in a small log cabin and began a free school for girls in the village of St. Charles, Missouri. During the next few years, she founded schools in Florissant and other towns in Mississippi and Louisiana. She and her sisters suffered all kinds of hardships, from fires to epidemics to hunger to lack of fuel. In Rose s work with settlers, she fought prejudice against African Americans and Native Americans. When she was 71 years old, Rose went with those who opened a mission for Potawatomi Indians at Sugar Creek, Kansas. She prayed while the other sisters taught. The Natives named her the woman who prays always. After only a year at the mission, she became ill and returned to St. Charles, where she died at the age of 83. How blessed we are in St. Louis that we have had a Saint working and living in our land! If you have not visited the Shrine of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, I encourage you to do so, especially as we celebrate her Feast on November 18 and celebrate this Bicentennial Year. Let us call upon St. Rose, that we may imitate her spirit of Missionary Discipleship and go wherever the Lord calls us. St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, pray for us! Spirit of the living God, you first breathed over the waters of creation, and one day you breathed a passion into the heart of Philippine Duchesne. You called her to cross the waters to a New World, to bring the message of your compassion and love to a land and peoples already dear to your heart. Not knowing the language of the land, she spoke the language of the heart of love and prayer, of attention and openness, of steadfast purpose and living faith. Bless, now, our ever-new world, with Philippine s spirit of great-hearted courage. Fill us with her desire to cross frontiers, especially those furthest from the touch of hope. Renew the whole Church in its missionary spirit and give us Philippine s zeal to spread your compassion and love to the ends of the earth. We ask all this in your name, Lord Jesus, whose love knows no borders or boundaries, and who sends us to make known that love in the heart of the world now and forever. Amen. Four Week Average Weekly Goal $ 29,407 $ 34,000 It gives me permission to embrace the moments when I m not enough, when my weaknesses are obvious, when I don t have what I wish I could give moments when a poverty of some kind describes my life, but not my worth. Perhaps you are living that season now. Maybe it s past, but you remember it all too well. Jesus words give me permission to lean into the broken and messy and to live in the reality of both. Then His words invite me to see that all He s ever wanted from me is exactly what I have in the very moment of my gift. Jesus doesn t ask us for the flashy. He s not waiting for our perfection. He stands before us, gives Himself to us, and loves us in the exact places where we feel the poorest. He looks at our hearts and begs us to offer Him those things we don t think are enough. He sees our shame and our embarrassment and our desire to have so much more to offer HOSPITALITY SUNDAY THIS SUNDAY! And, in the grace of that sight, the timid offering of my empty, desolate, imperfect self, is transformed into perfect livelihood. Melissa Hunter serves as the Director of Faith Formation at MQP.
