CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE: Couples wishing to be married at MQP should contact the parish as soon as possible a er engagement and at least six months before the proposed wedding date. At least one of the couple should be a prac cing Catholic, registered and living in the parish. A program of marriage prepara on is required. VOCATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD AND RELIGIOUS LIFE: Any young man interested in the priesthood or any young person interested in the religious life is encouraged to contact the Pastor or to call the Archdiocesan Voca on Office at All Catholics are called to pray for an increase in religious voca ons. MEMORIAL DAY There will be one Mass celebrated on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, at 9:00am. Please join us as we especially remember those who gave their lives in service to our nation. The Parish Offices are closed for the Memorial Day holiday. If you have parish business, please take care of that on another day. SUMMER RECTORY HOURS Beginning this Friday, the Rectory Office will close at noon on Fridays during the summer month. Regular Office hours are Monday through Thursday8:30am until 4:30pm and Fridays 8:30am until 12:00noon. Information about the parish, including the parish calendar and room reservations requests are always available online at PILGRIMAGE TO GERMANY & AUSTRIA WITH FR. JOHN All are invited to join Fr. John on a pilgrimage to Austria and Germany July 17-25, We will travel to Vienna and Salzburg, cruse the Danube River, and conclude by attending the world-famous Passion Play in Oberammagau, Germany. An informational meeting about this trip will take place in the Msgr. Lubeley Room at MQP on Sunday, July 22, after the 11:00am Mass. 3 A NEW WEEK FR. JOHN VIEN Memorial Day is the traditional beginning of summertime, but more than that, it is a solemn remembrance of those who gave their lives in service to our nation. This weekend, I encourage all of you to pray for the souls of all who died in war or in service to our country. We honor the brave men and women of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and the Reserves who have served in war and in peacetime, especially those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. On Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, we will celebrate just one Mass at 9:00am. Please join us as we pray for all the faithful departed who served our nation. Our MQP Parish School finished classes this last week, and our administration and teachers will be working on final reports and report cards in the next week or two before beginning their summer break. The Kindergarten Graduation this past Wednesday morning was too cute for words; our Kindergartners looked great in their homemade caps and their white graduation gowns (actually their dad s dress shirts!) and they sang delightful songs for their parents and family members attending. Our 8 th Grade class graduated this past Wednesday evening, the culmination of 9 years of quality Catholic education for most of them. Our 8 th Graders are moving on to some of our great St. Louis high schools, and we hope that they will continue to grow in faith as part of our Youth Ministry for our high schoolers. Congratulations to all the Graduates of MQP! Not just our Kindergartners and 8 th Graders, but all our parishioners who are celebrating this milestone this Spring. Many of our parishioners are celebrating Graduations from high school, college, or graduate school, so Congratulations to all! Another word for Graduation is Commencement, which actually means a beginning. Yes, Graduation is the end of one chapter in life, but it is also the beginning of new things and new possibilities: Oh, the places you ll go! as Dr. Seuss says. We pray that all of our graduates will always go with God and move forward in faith! This weekend, two new priests are ordained for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Congratulations to Fr. Gerson Parra and Fr. Christopher Rubie! Please pray for them as they begin their ministry as priests. Next year, God willing, MQP will have a great celebration with the future Fr. Stephen Schumacher and his family as he is ordained a Priest and celebrates his First Mass. Until then, and always, pray for more vocations to the Priesthood in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, especially from our MQP Parish Family. Many of you know that last Fall I led a Pilgrimage to Italy with family and friends and parishioners. It really was the trip of a lifetime! I d like to invite you to be part of my next big adventure: a pilgrimage to Austria and Germany in July of The heart of this pilgrimage will be attending the Great Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany. The Passion Play, the story of the Passion and Death of Jesus, has been performed in Oberammergau every ten years since 1634, when the inhabitants of that German town made a vow that they would honor the Savior in this way if God saved their town from the ravages of the bubonic plague. The rest is history. The Passion Play involves over 2000 people as actors, musicians, and stage technicians, all residents of the village. Attending the Passion Play in Oberammergau is truly a once in a lifetime experience that I m so looking forward to, and I hope that many of you will consider making this journey with me. If you are interested in this trip, an informational meeting will take place on Sunday, July 22 after the 11:00am Mass in the Msgr. Lubeley Room. Please join us! On this Trinity Sunday, we name and acclaim our God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. May your week ahead be blessed with an awareness of the presence of God in all you do! The Red Cross must collect more than 13,000 blood donations every day for trauma victims, cancer patients and those depending on routine transfusions. With many donors vacationing and schools that host blood drives on break, summer is an especially difficult time to collect enough blood donations to meet patient needs. The photo directories have arrived. I am asking for volunteers to give out the directories after the masses on the holiday weekend which is May 26th and 27 th and June 2nd and June 3rd. The Next Chapter program is grounded in Ignatian spirituality and is sponsored by the Saint Louis University Office of Mission and Identity. It is a six-month guided journey with a group of approximately fifteen people who are approaching retirement or who are recently retired. The ultimate goal of the program is to assist people to discern who God is calling them to be and what God is calling them to do in their next chapter of life. 5 Holy Trinity Sunday- Make Disciples of all Nations The Gospel for today is one of the most classic passages illuminating our call to be missionary disciples. It is often called the Great Commission and reminds us that we have been sent by God to proclaim the Good News of salvation to all people. The Christian life is a constant cycle of worship and being sent. We worship in the Mass and are sent out to share what and whom we have received in the Holy Eucharist. Then, we return again to this font of life in order to receive nourishment for the next time we are sent. We journey from communion to mission and back again. I invite you today to consider your daily life and what little ways you can make disciples of others. Perhaps it is extra prayer and silence in your life, joining or leading a Bible study, inviting a person to a parish event, or sharing what Jesus Christ has done in your life.
