3 These late Advent days are with many blessings! At the Mass, we hear the stories of all that happened before the birth of Jesus: the Annunciation to Mary; the Visit of Mary to Elizabeth; the Annunciation to Zechariah and the birth of John the Baptist; the Annunciation to Joseph; and the journey to Bethlehem before the birth of Jesus. You might take some quiet time on your own during these busy days to open your Bible to the beginning of the Gospel of Luke or Matthew and read these Gospels for your own prayer and reflection. The Great O-Antiphons also mark the Church s prayer during these late Advent days. Most familiar to us in the song O Come, O Come Emmanuel but part of the Church s ancient chant and prayer, the O- Antiphons call upon the Lord by various titles O Wisdom, O Lord, O Root of Jesse, O Key of David, O Dayspring from on High, O King of the Nations, O Emmanuel and express our longing that this great God will come to save us. While we know that the Lord has already come and that the Lord is already with us, let us continue our fervent prayer that the Lord will come to us, especially to bring peace and justice to our broken and weary world. In the midst of the busy-ness and crazyness of these late Advent days, I do want to encourage you to find and take some time for quiet, for prayer, for reflection, so that all of us can enter into the Christmas celebration with a peaceful heart and a serene spirit. Tomorrow, Monday, December 18, will be our final day of Eucharistic Adoration, from after the 8:00am Mass until Benediction at 9:00pm. The Church will be open and quiet for prayer and reflection; perhaps this is just what you need! I especially encourage you to come to our Advent Reconciliation Service at Holy Redeemer Parish this Monday, December 18, at 7:00pm. The parishes of Webster Groves cooperate on our bi-annual Reconciliation Services, with Holy Redeemer hosting during Advent and MQP hosting during Lent. Priests and parishioners from Holy Redeemer, Annunciation, and MQP will gather together on Monday night to praise God s mercy and celebrate Reconciliation. There will also be Confessions at MQP next Saturday afternoon, December 23, as usual, from 3:45 until 4:45pm. Please note the Sunday Mass and Christmas schedule for next weekend, because it might seem a bit confusing. Here s the bottom line: Catholics should attend two Masses within the course of two days or so, one Mass for the Fourth Sunday of Advent and one Mass for Christmas. Masses for the Fourth Sunday of Advent will be at the usual Sunday times: 5:00pm on Saturday, December 23 and on Sunday morning, December 24, at 7:30, 9:00, and 11:00am. Masses For Christmas will be celebrated on Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, at 4:00pm, 6:00pm, and 10:00pm, and on Christmas morning, Monday December 25, at 8:00am and 11:00am. Please note these Mass times, please arrive early as Masses will be more crowded, and please be patient with one another, accommodating to one another, and welcoming to our visitors and guests next weekend. We should always be hospitable and kind, but especially at Christmas! Monday, January 1, 2018 is the Feast of Mary, Mother of God. It is not a holy day of obligation this year, since it falls on a Monday, but all are encouraged to come together to honor Mary and to welcome the New Year 2018 at 8:00 and 11:00am Mass. Thanks for your generosity with the Advent Giving Tree and for all the many works of charity offered during Advent. Thanks in advance for your generosity to the Christmas collection for Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. As we come to the end of the year, may I also ask that you consider an extra Christmas gift to the parish? We are still raising funds for the HVAC repair and replacement in the school building, and we certainly can use your end of the year financial gifts, which will benefit the parish and you as you anticipate your 2017 taxes. Our PSR and our school will finish this week for the Christmas holidays, and our parish staff is off beginning this Friday, December 22 through Tuesday, January 2, Please note that the Parish Offices will be closed during these days so that the priests and staff can enjoy these days with their families and friends. Please respect these holidays, and if you have parish business, take care of that at another time. Know of my prayers for you and for all our parish family during these days, that the Lord Jesus might come into our hearts with his merciful love! Merry Christmas! THIS WEEK AT MQP... 8 Christmas 2017 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Rejoice! The weeks of Advent waiting are over, and Christ is born! We rejoice in our Savior s birth remembering the great gift of faith He has given us through the mystery of His incarnation and the saving power of His death and resurrection. Each year, the people of our archdiocese have been asked to make a special gift on Christmas Day to support our seminarians at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. The men of our seminary, who have responded to Christ's call to follow Him, are truly a gift to the Church and to the Archdiocese of St. Louis. It is these men who will bring the faith given to us by Christ 2000 years ago to future generations here in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. I ask you, once again, to pray for vocations and for all our priests and seminarians. I also ask you to be generous in your donation to the Christmas Day collection, which helps pay the day-to-day expenses and maintenance of our seminary. Please be assured of my prayers for you during the season of Christmas. May the Lord of life come into your hearts and homes in a special way during this holy time of year. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson Archbishop of St. Louis 8 MARY QUEEN OF PEACE

Let us ask God to bless our family on this Third Sunday in Advent: God of rejoicing, this week we hear in our second reading that we are called to rejoice always. Help our family to be joyful in the midst of whatever happens this week. When we light the third candle on our wreath let us bring your joy to our friends and neighbors this week. We ask this through Christ, who is the ultimate joyful gift to the world. Amen.
