3 A NEW WEEK FR. JOHN VIEN Mary Queen of Peace is an Amazing Parish! Not only do most of us think that MQP is a great parish, but we really are an Amazing Parish, because I am trying to grow and improve MQP by following the model set out by The Amazing Parish, moving us from maintenance mode to a community of missionary disciples and servant leaders that is truly alive in the Holy Spirit. I absolutely believe that this is crucial if we are to realize the vision of Pope Francis for our Church and if we want to be a vibrant community of faith for the 21 st century. If you want to know more about The Amazing Parish, check out Over a year ago, I formed the Pastor s Leadership Team to assist me in crafting the mission, vision, values, and plans for our parish as we move to the future. No Pastor can be effective on his own, and the PLT is a group of trusted advisors that I pray with daily and meet with weekly to consider the needs and progress of our parish. I m grateful to my Pastor s Leadership Team: Angela Fiordelisi, Chuck Forthaus, Jim Klimt, Steve Schaefer, and Chandra Tripp, who have been on this journey with me. Last April, Chuck, Jim, Steve, and I attended the Amazing Parish Conference in Atlanta. This April, Angela and Chandra will join me at the Amazing Parish Conference in Dallas, along with Marc Strathman, our Director of Liturgical Music, and Andrew Shipp, our Director of Youth Ministry, as we continue to strive to learn more and more how to be an Amazing Parish. Pray for us and for this parish that we love and serve. In the last months, the PLT and I have been focused on the staffing needs of our parish and how we can serve and meet the needs of our parishioners better. Last summer, our parish secretary retired, and Angela Fiordelisi has stepped into that role for the time being, helping the parish office to run smoothly. But the days of just having a Parish Secretary on staff are long gone. We are fortunate at MQP to have an amazing new school principal, Michael Nieman, and a dedicated school staff. We re fortunate to have a Business Manager, Barb Schlanger, and other office staff that work tirelessly. And we are fortunate that we have Marc and Andrew in their respective pastoral roles. But if we are to be an Amazing Parish, there are so many other roles that could be filled to move us into the future. So many other parishes have staff members in creative and inspiring roles serving the needs of their parishioners. It s time for MQP to move from maintenance to mission! The PLT has identified two roles that we intend to fill this year. One is a Communications Coordinator, a full-time member of the Pastoral Staff responsible for all aspects of parish communication, both internal and external, including the Sunday bulletin, website, social media, coordinating parish ministries and groups, collaborating with the School, PSR and Parish Marketing Committee, aligning our mission and vision, and ensuring effective communication so that faith can flourish. The other is a Director of Faith Formation, a full-time member of the Pastoral Staff responsible for coordinating the Parish School of Religion and Adult Faith Formation, as well as collaborating with our Parish School, Youth Ministry, RCIA, ACTS, and other faith formation ministries and groups to promote a well-rounded, lifelong formation in the Catholic faith. We have invested so much in the formation and education of our children in school, PSR, and Youth Ministry; I want to insure that the adults of our parish also have the resources they need to grow in faith and holiness. The PLT and I believe that having these two persons in place will move us forward more quickly to becoming a more Amazing Parish, and I m asking for your support. In the next few weeks, we will begin advertising for these positions, and I will set up Search Committees to assist me in recommending candidates. My hope is that these new staff members would begin this summer. I am working with the Finance Committee and others to insure that we can budget for these new positions, and I hope that many in the parish will step up with increased donations, knowing that these new staff members will help grow the faith of our parishioners. This is a great leap of faith for me, the PLT, and our whole parish, but prayerful discernment leads to trust that these new parish positions will better position our parish to be a model of 21 st century parish life. Join with me in praying that God provide us with the resources we need to make this happen, and that God will send us the right people to help our Amazing Parish be even more amazing! What emotion I experienced in them! Those sounds flowed into my ears distilling the truth in my heart. A feeling of devotion surged within me, and tears streamed down my face - tears that did me good." This is the power that singing and music has in the Eucharist. Lift up your voices. Compliance involves: 1) attending a Protecting God s Children workshop; 2) reading and signing a Code of Ethical Conduct; 3) completion of a FCSR background check before a person begins their ministry which gets updated each even year. Mary Queen of Peace is in the process of updating all necessary background checks for If you are no longer volunteering at the parish, please , Heather O Keefe, Child Safety Coordinator at: haokeefe@mqpwg.org Thank you so much for your service to Mary Queen of Peace! Spring Festival is Quickly Approaching! We invite you to join us as a sponsor for the 2018 MQP Spring Festival. This is one of our most highly attended events not only by MQP families, but families from the surrounding communities. As a sponsor your company will be highlighted and recognized for your generous support. What an outstanding way to support the Mary Queen of Peace community! If you would like to be a sponsor for Spring Festival please contact Courtney Moore at Everyday Stewardship I have had the honor of coaching all three of my kids in soccer. When you are a coach of a team of little ones, along with the fundamentals of the game and good sportsmanship, you want to teach the value of teamwork. If they can learn about how a team functions and why working together matters, that lesson can benefit them for many years to come. The Body of Christ is a type of team. We are all called upon to use our talents and gifts in such a way that they complement those of others. We are stronger and capable of so much more together than when we are apart. Our stewardship isn't just about our personal call of God to cultivate our gifts and give them back with increase to Him. It is about how our stewardship way of life builds up the Body of Christ. The Body cannot function as God intended it to if parts of it are not fully giving of themselves. In community, we have the power to change the world around us because we bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who need to hear it and witness it by our actions. This Lent, consider how you fit into the Body of Christ. How can your gifts and talents make the Church stronger? You just might be the missing component of a team that really needs help to make the greatest impact for Jesus. ~Tracy Earl Welliver Webster-Rock Hill Ministries is hosting its Annual Trivia Night Fundraiser at the First Congregational Church of Webster Groves on Saturday, April 7, Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and play begins at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
