Pre-Baptismal classes are required. Contact the Parish Office for arrangements. Reconciliation: Saturdays 12:30-1:00 PM and after the 5:00 PM Mass. Marriage: Contact Parish Office at least 6 months in advance of proposed date. Visitation of the Sick or Shut-Ins: Inform the Parish Office when anyone is ill at home or in the hospital. Upon request, Holy Communion can be brought to the home by the priest and/or a Eucharistic Minister. Jim Gretz From the desk of the Administrator I owe an apology to our Seventh Grade Religious Education Class. Back on 17 September we celebrated Catechetical Sunday. These young men and women kindly served as our cross bearer, readers, ushers, and gift bearers. In having announcements made and the blessing of Catechists and parents/guardians, I failed to thank them for their efforts. You all did a great job. Thanks so much. You give us hope as we anticipate the future. By the time you all read this, I will have hopefully already bored to tears the Society for Catholic Liturgy and begun my drive to Minneapolis. So, would you like to know HOW I bored to tears the Society for Catholic Liturgy? Here s my paper proposition: Actuosa Participatio Lived Out in Post- Modernity As administrator of a parish and director of the Diocesan Department for Liturgy and Worship, I propose that our post-modern time provides an opportune pastoral moment for a call to live out actuosa participatio (liturgical active participation). This thesis will be unfolded through the context of three foundational stones: postmodernity, actuosa participatio, and liturgical ministry. Post-modernity. The first and greatest difficulty is defining post-modernity. One school of thought sees it as building on the past. Another school of thought sees it as a break with the past to create something new. If we presume that post-modernity depends on an individual s own perception of what is real and true, how can we create a collective, pastoral vision to move forward together? Actuosa Participatio. The connotation of actuosa participatio has been debated since the phrase was first used. Again, various schools of thought see it as simply something external, whereas others see it internally. If we presume that actuosa participatio is really a melding of both, how do we inspire Catholics to live this out? Liturgical Ministry. Many people are surprised when they learn the General Instruction of the Roman Missal enumerates sixteen liturgical ministries to be employed at Mass. If the Bishop, Priest, Deacon, People of God, Instituted Acolyte, Instituted Lector, lay persons deputed to exercise the role of the Acolyte, lay persons deputed to exercise the role of the Lector, (con t)

All Saints Youth Theater Auditions for All Saints Youth Theater s Christmas musical, The Promise, will be held on October 2 from 4:30-7:30 PM and October 6 from 3:30-5:30 PM in the Activities Building. Performances will be December 16 and 17. Auditions are open to youth ages We are also looking for instrumentalists (any age) and stage crew. Unity in the Community Unity in the Community will be held October 14, 1:00-5:00 PM at Doughterty Field in Etna. In preparation for the event, we are collecting candy for the hay fort. If you would like to donate, place donations in the container in the back of church. Please NO chocolate. Thank you for your support. Fall Open House Providence Heights Alpha School: October 21, 9:00-11:00 AM. The Alpha School is a private, independent, Catholic school in McCandless Township founded and sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence. Since 1926, Alpha School has educated children to be independent thinkers, imaginative problem solvers and caring compassionate individuals. Grades PreK to 8th. For more information, contact Admissions at chartman@alphaschool.org or visit The message of the liturgy this Sunday is one of repentance, but BOX also, more importantly, one of good news! The good news is that it's never too late to ask God for forgiveness! While we might be tempted to think that we are too far gone in our sinfulness to be accepted by the Lord, the truth is that no one is so sinful that God would not offer them forgiveness and reconciliation. The psalmist declares that God is merciful and shows sinners the way. Jesus in the Gospel reading goes even further stating that tax collectors (who were basically considered the worst of the worst in Jesus' time) and prostitutes would enter the kingdom of God before the chief priests and elders he was addressing. Why? They were humble and contrite and much more receptive to Jesus' message than the chief priests and elders who were unrepentant and thought they knew better! So, it isn't so much about where we've been in our relationship with Christ and one another, but it's about where we're going and that's good news! Yours in ministry, Tom Rishel COMPLETE JOY As we read in his letter to the Philippians today, Saint Paul shares that his joy is complete when they are united in heart. It is a discouragement against envy and competition and an encouragement for humility and service. To be united in heart and one as the Body of Christ is always our mission as the Church. This task becomes even more essential as we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! There is no doubt the Church will be made stronger as we unite our human, pastoral, spiritual and financial resources and form vibrant parishes throughout the diocese. The challenge is to place our focus not on ourselves, but on our neighbors and our new communities that they may be alive in faith and in the love of God.
