OCTOBER 2, 2016 TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Masses Saturday Vigil: 5:00 PM Sunday: 8:00 & 10:00 AM Weekdays: See schedule in bulletin Sacraments Baptisms are celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month after the 10:00 AM Mass. Pre-Baptismal classes are required. Contact the Parish Office for arrangements. Reconciliation: Saturdays 12:30-1:00 PM and after the 5:00 PM Mass. Marriage: Contact Parish Office at least 6 months in advance of proposed date. Visitation of the Sick or Shut-Ins: Inform the Parish Office when anyone is ill at home or in the hospital. Upon request, Holy Communion can be brought to the home by the priest and/or a Eucharistic Minister. Bulletin Deadline: All bulletin announcements must be received by Monday noon in written form. Preparation for Entering the Church (RCIA): We welcome those who are interested in becoming Catholics. To enter a program of formation and prayer, contact the Parish Office. P S P ARISH HARE ROGRAM * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 2015 GOAL: $ 51, COLLECTED TO DATE: $ 41, BALANCE: $ 10, Annual October Count Since 1987, parishes have conducted a census of Mass attendance by manually counting every individual (adults and children) who attends Mass during the weekends of October. The October Count provides valuable information on Mass attendance trends throughout the Diocese that is significant for the On Mission planning process. At the end of each 6 month period, All Saints will be given SHOP n SAVE Cards equal to the amount of qualifying discounts that have been tabulated from each customer that signed up for the program. Registration forms are available at the Parish Office. From the Desk of the Administrator So, I was away in Oglebay the other week for the triennial Multi-Day Priest Convocation. It was good and busy. Yet, dare I say, it was just another work week for me! There were TWELVE liturgies over the four days. I came home and slept for like 10 hours! However, it was a time of fraternity and learning. We ve got lots to do for the On Mission Planning Process. Speaking of On Mission, what are YOU doing to be a better disciple? The role of the disciple is two-fold. First, you need to learn from the teacher, i.e., Jesus. Second, you need to tell others about Him, inviting them to come and see for themselves. I think we have a good celebration of Mass here. Have you ever told anyone that and invited them to join you at Mass? That s a simple way to be a disciple. The more you do that and others do that, we can be a dynamic representation of the Body of Christ in the world. It s pretty simple, yet profound! An important part of the On Mission Planning Process is the Parish Consultation or Town Hall Meetings. On 13 and 17 October, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Church, we will be having our consultations. It s the same meeting both nights. Come to one or to both! It s an opportunity to hear the PROPOSED models and offer feedback. Afterwards, in the weeks following, we will have additional opportunities to further digest the information about the composition of the models. Continue to pray for the Diocese and the success of the On Mission Planning Process. Our reflection on Respect Life issues continues next week with an insert entitled, Every Child Brings Us God s Smile. How important that after we care for creation, we care for the most vulnerable in our society, the unborn. The nine months in the womb are so critical. Not only do we seek to preserve these lives, we must pray too for their parents. It s easy enough to make bad decisions, not only to abort, but life choices that put the child in jeopardy through drugs, alcohol, reckless living, and the like. Pray for the children and their parents to respect life! While this column was written in advance, this week moves me from the Ladies of Charity National Assembly in Queens, NY to the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions national meeting in Albany, NY. Save the Date! Christ Child Society of Pittsburgh invites all parishioners to their Open House, along with coffee and donuts, following the 10:00 AM Mass on Sunday, November 6th. CCS has recently moved into a classroom in the school. Their mission is to serve the needs of under-privileged children in the community through projects such as providing layettes to mothers in great need of necessities for their newborn babies and providing My Stuff Bags to children brought to domestic abuse shelters. Other projects include providing new winter coats through Angel s Closet and helping at Camp Aim for special needs children. Angel s Closet Coat Program, sponsored by the Christ Child Society of Pittsburgh, located at All Saints Parish School, 19 Dewey Street, Etna, will resume October 6 at 11:30 AM. We will be open October 6 & 27; November 3 & 17, from 11:30 AM to 4:45 PM. Also, open for two Saturdays, October 22 & November 12, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Proof of income to quality for coat. Applications available at the parish office, Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM. Forms due 2 weeks prior to the selected date of appointment. Age requirement: children 13 years and under. Get involved, and learn more at In this Sunday's responsorial psalm, from Psalm 95, we hear of BOX two desert locations that we are probably unfamiliar with: Massah and Meribah, which actually are two names for the same place. Meribah (which means quarreling ) is mentioned in the book of Exodus and Numbers as the location where the Israelites argued with Moses about the lack of water. Moses appealed to God and was told to strike a rock with his staff. He did, and water flowed from the rock. Because of this event, the name of the location was changed to Massah, a name which means testing. So when we hear in the psalm where your fathers tempted me, they tested me though they had seen my works, this is the event that is being described. What it means for us is that if God can cause water to flow from a rock for Moses and the Israelites in the bone dry desert, we should not harden our hearts and doubt that he can provide for our needs as well!
