Amen. First Reading A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles chapter 10 beginning at verse 44 Opening Sentence Jesus said, You did not choose me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit. While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, "Can anyone

2 withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days. Hear the word of the Lord Thanks be to God. PSALM 98 Response: O sing to the Lord a new song: For he has done marvellous things. His right hand and his holy arm they have got him the victory. The Lord has made known his salvation, he has revealed his just deliverance in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his mercy and faithfulness towards the house of Israel and all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. R Shout with joy to the Lord all the earth, break into singing and make melody. Make melody to the Lord upon the harp, upon the harp and with the sounds of praise. With trumpets and with horns cry out in triumph before the Lord the king. Let the sea roar and all that fills it, the good earth and those who live upon it. Let the rivers clap their hands and let the mountains ring out together before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth, he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity. R SECOND READING Reader from congregation A Reading from the first letter of St. John chapter 5 beginning at the first verse. Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith. Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth. There are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three agree. If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his son. Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. John Chapter 15 beginning at verse 9 Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ. As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father s commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one s life for one s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another. For the Gospel of the Lord, Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ. Others are invited forward to receive a blessing (please keep a prayer book in your hand and your head bowed if you want a blessing).

4 Prayer After Communion Most glorious Lord of life, we thank you that you nourish us in these Easter mysteries. Fill us with the Spirit of love and unite us in faith, that we may witness to the resurrection and show your glory to all the world... Father we offer ourselves to you as a living sacrifice through Jesus Christ our Lord. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. THY KINGDOM COME From Ascension Day till Pentecost (10 th 20 th May) the Archbishop of Canterbury invites all Anglicans to take part in a global wave of prayer. I would strongly encourage you to visit the following website: and download at least one resource to use, as well as pledging to pray regularly during these 11 days. I would recommend the Prayer Diary ds/resources/tkc_prayerjournal_v9.pdf. If you don t have access to a computer, please call into the office (9am 1pm each weekday) before Ascension Day and ask Laura or Chris to print you a copy. If you are resolved to pray as the Archbishop invites, also submit the pledge 2 pray so that we are on the map! Watch the video on how the Archbishop came to faith it pertains to today s gospel and also mentions our St. Augustine. SAFE CHURCH AWARENESS TRAINING WANGARATTA, Saturday 19 th May (see notice board) SHEPPARTON, Saturday 16 th JUNE For those who haven t yet done this training but required to, please mark one of the above dates in your diary as, after this, it will be difficult to approve your ongoing formal ministry role. The parish will contribute to the cost of the training. If you re not sure if you re required to attend, please check with Helen. The following people are required to do the training: parish councillors, vestry members, wardens, treasurers, clergy, Eucharistic assistants, servers, lay ministers, youth group and Sunday School teachers. If you re attending the June workshop in Shepparton, please put your name on the list in the narthex or let Helen know as we will do a group booking. The parish pays half the fee.

7 MID YEAR GARAGE SALE 19 th MAY 8am 1pm A Garage Sale will be held in St. Augustine s hall, along with a Cake Stall & Sausage Sizzle. Don t wait until Spring to clean out unwanted items - have an Autumn clean-out and we will dispose of them for you. Items can be collected by phoning Dorothy Cook , Carole Henderson or the Church office ; or they can be left at the Church office between 9am - 1pm, Mon to Frid. If you have children who would like to receive their first Communion when the Bishop comes for Confirmation, please give their names, ages and parents names and contact details (phone/ ) to the Church Office or to Helen. HALL VERGER REQUIRED We are looking for someone to open and close St. Augustine s hall for all out of hours bookings and check that the hall is left in good order this will be mainly evening/weekend work. Payment will be made for each event. If you are interested, please give your name, residential address, and phone number to Helen, or to the church office. VERGER TO COVER HOLIDAYS Anyone interested in doing the Verger s job while Joe Pearson is away for 3 months, please speak to Gunnar or Helen ASAP. The role includes setting-up for and helping at weddings and funerals. JAMS & PRESERVES STALL The Katandra West Anglican Friendship group will again manage the Jams and Preserves Stall at the Parish Fair on 20 th Oct. Due to damage to fruit & citrus trees by the Queensland Fruit Fly, we are seeking any excess citrus fruit you have for making. We welcome any spare jars of marmalade, jam, relish or pickles. These can be left at the Parish Office. Thank you, Marjorie Earl (President). DONATIONS FOR FLOWERS The 2018 Flower List is available (on the notice board near the kitchen door). We encourage parishioners to donate flowers to the Church on the Sunday nearest anniversaries or birthdays of loved ones, or other celebrations.
