Gunnar Rippon Phone: TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST 19 th November 2017 Welcome to any who are visitors today. We hope you enjoy worshipping with us. Our service begins on page 119 of A Prayer Book for Australia. HYMNS 8:30: :30: Hymns on Screen OPENING HYMN Opening Sentence The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it: the compass of the world and those who dwell therein. PRAYER OF THE DAY Creator of all life, your care is known through the sparrow and the hairs of our head: remind us of your goodness in creation and our place within it, that our voice may resound with every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, proclaiming honour and glory, through Jesus Christ who reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God now and forever. Amen.
2 READING A reading from Genesis chapter 1 reading from verse 24 to 31 And God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind." And it was so. God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them take care of the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and all the wild animals of the earth, and every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth." So God created humankind in God's image, God created them; male and female. God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and take care of the fish of the sea, the birds of the air and every living thing that moves upon the earth." God said, "See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food." And it was so. God saw everything that God had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Hear the word of the Lord, Thanks be to God. PSALM 24:1-5 Response: The earth is the Lord s and all that is in it. The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it: the compass of the world and those who dwell therein. For he has founded it upon the seas: and established it upon the waters. R Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord: or who shall stand in his holy place? Those who have clean hands and a pure heart: who have not set their soul upon idols, nor sworn their oath to a lie. They shall receive blessing from the Lord: and recompense from the God of their salvation. R... THE GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Alleluia, alleluia! God saw all that he had made and found it to be very good. Alleluia! THE HOLY GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And also with you. The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St John chapter 3 reading from verse 16 to 21 Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Those who believe in him are not condemned; but
3 those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgement, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed. But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God. For the Gospel of the Lord Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ SERMON The Sermon is followed by The Creed on page 123 and then by The Prayers of the People Today s Prayer responses are: Lord of all Creation, Renew the face of the earth. THE PEACE Page 127 We are the body of Christ. His Spirit is with us. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. OFFERTORY HYMN THE GREAT THANKSGIVING The Thanksgiving Prayer is followed by the Lord s Prayer. COMMUNION Communicant members of other denominations are welcome to receive Communion with us. Others are invited forward to receive a blessing (please keep a prayer book in your hand and your head bowed if you would like a blessing). PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION Living God, in this holy meal you fill us with new hope. May the power of your love, which we have known in word and sacrament, continue your saving work among us, give us courage for our pilgrimage, and bring us to the joys you promise... Father, we offer ourselves to you as a living sacrifice through Jesus Christ our Lord. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen. NOTICES FINAL HYMN BENEDICTION The peace of God which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God and of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you and with those whom you love and for whom you have prayed, today and always. Amen. DISMISSAL Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. Amen.
