Anne Krentz Organ CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen He is Risen. He is risen indeed. Christ is alive. He lives so that we too might dwell in newness of life. He lives to grant forgiveness and mercy to all. However, if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Oh, God of the empty tomb: You have called us to honest confession and truth. Yet, we pretend that we are not in need of correction or repentance. We sometimes doubt that your mercy is enough to wash us and all people clean. Your first disciples shared generously with others, yet, we hold onto what you have given us out of fear and anxiety. You have called us to forgive others, but we hold onto animosity, anger, or resentment. We often love in word and speech, but fail in truth and in actions. Forgive us, Good Shepherd. Gather us into the arms of your mercy. We remain kneeling as the pastor offers God s absolution and forgiveness. Following absolution we stand for the hymn, facing the processional cross as we begin.

We sit. b WORD b CHILDREN S SERMON (11:00 a.m.) FIRST READING: ACTS 10: While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. 45The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, 46 for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, 47 Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? 48 So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

And his commandments are not burdensome, 4 for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith. 5 Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. We stand.
