We extend a warm welcome to those visiting or worshipping with us for the first time today. Sunday Services 9:00am Eucharist A service of Holy Communion, which is usually sung with hymns and a sermon. On the 4 th Sunday of the month the service is said. Children s Church meets in the meeting room at 9 am on the 1 st, 3 rd and 5 th Sundays of the month and at 5 pm on the 4 th Sunday. Please come forward to receive from the Celebrant and then move to receive from one of the chalices. If you cannot come to the priest, please let one of the sides- people know and the sacrament will be brought to you. If you would prefer to receive a blessing, please come forward, holding your Order of Service. Gluten free wafers are available. For your prayers this week... Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9am to 2pm. Gardening stall for the Garage Sale October. It's a good time to pot up cuttings isn't it? There are some attractively coloured pots, washed and of various sizes in the hall, if anyone would like them for cuttings. I am happy to take any cuttings and pot them up if necessary. Please bring along any plastic pots you may have, the coloured ones have more appeal than the black and the dark green ones. Also available next week. Wonderful worm juice. A fantastic tonic for your plants. $3.00 a bottle - Happy Gardening. Anne Could you automate your giving? The most efficient way to give is by bank transfer. You can, of course, continue to give by other means but if you are able to switch to bank transfer you can set up a regular donation using the following bank details. BSB , Account No Knitting. I have already been able to take a very large bag of beanies, scarves and a blanket to St Bartholomew s Home. Appropriately it was Homelessness Week. The knitting was very much appreciated. If anyone has run out of wool and would like to continue knitting, there is more wool available. Thank you very much for your support. 4

5 - Ilona Day ( ) Volunteers Urgently Needed- Monthly Service Roster Have you been wishing you could volunteer the Church but were not sure how? We desperately need more help with readings, welcoming and hospitality. Even once a month would be fantastic...all training supplied. Simply let Jo, Jim or Sandra know. August Produce Stall Thank you everyone for the support which you gave so willingly to the Produce Stall. All your wonderful efforts were appreciated very much indeed. We have been busy again this week. There are cakes, biscuits and preserves available for your delight and edification, in the Hall after the service. - Thank you again. Anne, Ilona Readings... A Reading from the First Book of the Kings Then David slept with his ancestors, and was buried in the city of David. The time that David reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned for seven years in Hebron, and thirty- three years in Jerusalem. So Solomon sat on the throne of his father David; and his kingdom was firmly established. Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of his father David; only, he sacrificed and offered incense at the high places. The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the principal high place; Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt- offerings on that altar. At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, Ask what I should give you. And Solomon said, You have shown great and 5

6 steadfast love to your servant my father David, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart towards you; and you have kept for him this great and steadfast love, and have given him a son to sit on his throne today. And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David, although I am only a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And your servant is in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a great people, so numerous they cannot be numbered or counted. Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, able to discern between good and evil; for who can govern this your great people? It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. God said to him, Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches, or for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, I now do according to your word. Indeed I give you a wise and discerning mind; no one like you has been before you and no one like you shall arise after you. I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honour all your life; no other king shall compare with you. If you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your life. Hear the Word of the Lord: Thanks be to God. 1 Kings 2:10-12, 3:3-14 Psalm 111 Alleluia. I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the faithful and in the congregation. The works of the Lord are great, sought out by all who delight in them. 6

7 His work is full of majesty and honour and his righteousness endures for ever. He appointed a memorial for his marvellous deeds; the Lord is gracious and full of compassion. He gave food to those who feared him; he is ever mindful of his covenant. He showed his people the power of his works in giving them the heritage of the nations The works of his hands are truth and justice; all his commandments are sure. They stand fast for ever and ever; they are done in truth and equity. He sent redemption to his people; he commanded his covenant for ever; holy and awesome is his name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have those who live by it; his praise endures for ever. Psalm 111 A Reading from the Letter to the Ephesians Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly; but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, Sleeper, awake! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. 7

8 Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil. So do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ. Hear the Word of the Lord: Thanks be to God. Ephesians 5:11-21 The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh. The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? So Jesus said to them, Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live for ever. The Gospel of the Lord.
