David will remain a server, and wishes Anne Morgan every success as his replacement. Safeguarding :- Sonja Barrand, the Safeguarding Officer for St. George s Church has reported to & advised the PCC, that anyone who begins a new role working with children or possible vulnerable adults i.e. Pastoral visiting, children & toddlers etc. must enquire about a DBS check with her prior to commencing that role. This is a requirement of the Church of England.. Bulb and Plant Planting Is there anyone who would like to take over growing and planting up the bulbs currently held at Len Palmer's home? If so, please speak with Len or David for further information. Horndean Crib League's annual day trip to France will take place on Sat 16th March, cost 18/person. Sailing from Portsmouth to Caen, we return the same day approximately at 9.30PM. For further information or to book a place, please speak to David Palmer, Monies to David by 6th Jan please. Holy Dusters: We need one more volunteer for our Holy Dusters on a Thursday afternoon (only once a month) to join Lindsay Hood and Ian Gibson. Please see Adina Burton as she will be doing a new rota for 2019 soon. Thank you Christmas Holidays Wishing all our young people and their families a very Happy Christmas holiday. Two Beeches Carol Service Thank you to all the congregational choir who sang Christmas Carols to the residents of Two Beeches on Wednesday. It was a great turnout and the staff really appreciated us and complimented on how lovely the singing was. A great outreach for our parish community.
6 What is Christingle? Now in its 50 th year, Christingle is a special, memorable celebration that takes place in thousands of churches and schools across the country The celebration is named after the Christingles that are lit during the service. Christingles are made from an orange decorated with red tape, sweets and a candle. With your help, Christingle raises vital funds to help children who are facing Christmas alone and are unable to cope. Your Christingle celebration is an opportunity to bring your whole community together, to share the Christian story and to experience the joy and wonder of this well-loved Christmas tradition. Christingle Service on Christmas Eve at 5pm is especially for families. The symbolism of Christingle Each element of a Christingle has a special meaning and helps to tell the Christian story: The orange represents the world The red ribbon (or tape) symbolises the love and blood of Christ The sweets and dried fruit represent all of God s creations The lit candle represents Jesus s light in the world, bringing hope to people living in darkness.
7 Factoid Did you know that we regularly spend more each year than we take in and that this shortfall has to come from our ever-decreasing reserves at St. George s!
