We are running a SOUP month again this year, and now will be collecting up to mid-june, and your support is greatly appreciated. We have a pyramid of cans in front of the altar, please help to make it grow! Diocesan Winter Appeal for Emergency Relief Diocese and Anglicare are working together to assist emergency relief programmes, the appeal will be launched on 3 rd June to run for the three months over winter. Food, blankets, perhaps your spare overcoat. The Bishop is suggesting a soup Sunday with a gold coin donation. This hasn t been discussed in Parish Council yet, but I am sure we will arrange one soon. Please see poster in porch. Safe Church Workshop for those who were unable to attend the local workshop, the next one is in Shepparton on 16th June. June Dates Synod 22 nd 11am continues Saturday Parish Council 26 th 5.30pm Pre-Synod Meeting Fr Paul, one Parish Rep and the Parish Secretary went along to Seymour to the Pre-Synod meeting last week, to listen to the Advocate explain the legislation that is to come before Synod this year, much of it General Synod legislation to ensure that we conform to Safe Church practice, as well as changes to the Parish Administration Act. You will all hear more about this as Synod approaches. Dear People of WWW This week s gospel reading finds Jesus taking on the Pharisees, and l must say l am more than happy to preach about this, after the complex and difficult task last week of preaching about the Trinity. I was thinking about how often people, probably more so from outside the church than within talk of Jesus of being meek and mild. Yet this is certainly not portrayed in the gospel reading for this week- Jesus is in fact angry with the Pharisees because of their hardness of heart, preferring to conspire with the Herodian s to destroy Jesus for healing on the Sabbath day, rather than praise God for the man s healing and restoration to full health. I often think back to instances in my own life where l know l should have spoken up and failed to do so, sometimes it was fear or embarrassment that stopped me, at other times it was a lack of belief in myself or that l had anything of any value to add to the issue, l preferred to take a backward step and see what happened. (Thinking specifically about bullying of certain kids while l was at high school.) With this in mind l add this from Jurgen Moltmann s book The Crucified God, p7. The more theology and the church attempt to become relevant to the problems of the present day, the more deeply they are drawn into the crisis of their own Christian identity. The more they attempt to assert their

5 identity in traditional dogmas, rights and moral notions, the more unbelievable they become. Every Blessing, Paul Hobby
