Her funeral will be held here at St Mary s on Thursday 19 April at 2.00pm. St Mary s Fellowship Lunch Kangaroo Flat Sports Club from 12 noon. A delicious 2 course lunch is available for $15.90 with 10 choices of main meal. This month our guest speaker is Alf Austin. Celebrate Prayer Launch It was a joy to be able to attend the very first Celebrate Prayer Gathering this week. Allan led us through a very thought provoking study on faith and doubt and following shared discussion, we prayed through some guided prayer points. The guided prayer points were much appreciated and helped steer us to connect with, and bring before God our loved ones, community, world and church. Well done and thank you Allan! Can I encourage you to come along, every Thursday from 11am 12pm, and lift to God in prayer the things on your heart and mind and, sit to hear what God may want to say to you. As someone so wisely said, Time spent in prayer is never wasted and it is such a wonderful privilege to pray together whether in the silence of our hearts or out load. 3 Jesus The Game Changer On Thursday we watched the first episode titled Jesus. To introduce the series, this episode established the historicity of Jesus, and, to a certain extend, the Gospels as accurate source material for His life and teaching. It also shows the centrality of Jesus place in the narrative of human history. On Thursday 19 April we will see episode 2 titled Equality. Jesus taught that each individual had inherent value they were loved by God, and worthy of love and attention from other people. The teaching of Jesus and Paul the Apostle shifted people from being viewed as members of families, castes, cities or communities to being individuals of worth. Titles of following episodes are Forgiveness, Women & Children, Democracy, Care, Leadership, Education & Health, Wealth and Reason & Science. You are welcome to come to one, all or as many as you like. Car Boot Sale How can you help? Talk to a stall organiser directly about how you can help on the day. Help before the day Help Gayle Worthington with potting up plants that she has or pot some of your own. See if you have a few items to add to the white elephant stall or book stall. A day or two before the Car Boot Sale make a cake/slice or two and don t forget the ingredients labels - look in the folder on the noticeboard in the Narthex. Shirley will need slices for morning tea as well, Let Geoff know if you have an item or two suitable for a winner s choice raffle to be held on the day. Most importantly the Car Boot Sale is about encouraging people not normally involved in the Parish to have a stall on the day. So, the main way that you can help is to talk to family friends, neighbours acquaintances about having a stall. Or you might have a stall yourself. You may know of a club or organisation that might like to fund raise for themselves by organising a trash and treasure stall. It s like having a garage sale where we do the publicity, provide morning teas and a barbeque. Outside stalls $15.00 for two car park spaces. Indoor stall $25.00 for a trestle table size space. $5.00 to hire a table and $5.00 for stall holders who need power. So, how can you help? Thy Kingdom Come Prayer Heavenly Father you have called us through Jesus to pray the prayer, Thy kingdom come As we prepare to enter the parish program called, Thy Kingdom Come, keep our eyes focussed on you. So fill your people with your grace and your Holy Spirit that, through this time, belief in you may be strengthened, hearts may be touched and softened, and the ground prepared for new things to emerge which will tell of your glory in this place. Keep us faithful in this daily prayer through Jesus, Lord and Saviour. Amen.

The Rector Writes Live, speak, think, and act like Christ. This week I had the privilege of ministering to a person I had not met before. I received a call requesting I visit someone who was near the end of her life. When I went to see this person and told her I was from the church she said (excuse me) bugger the church and went on to tell me when she moved to Bendigo some years ago the church snubbed her. Now I know this is one side of the story however I am telling it for a reason I hope you will understand in a moment. Her reaction, as you can imagine, took me by surprise, I was not expecting that however, I said back to her yeah bugger the church if they snubbed you, that s not nice and I m sorry that happened to you. I think now, she was just as surprised as me and I went on to say I don t think God ever snubbed anyone and in fact Jesus himself was snubbed because he hung out with all sorts of people who others looked down on. The woman s face softened and we chatted for a bit. I then asked her if I could read some things from

7 the Bible to her, I began reading Psalm 23 and was so moved as she began to recite it with me and, sob. She wept in such a way that I could do nothing but weep with her. This stranger, an outcast from the church was a broken, bruised soul. I prayed the Lord s Prayer and again she joined in and prayed with me. It was a very moving and beautiful blessing to assure her of Gods unending love and through that encounter I came away knowing I had held the hand and heart of God in that moment. All of our readings this week make it very clear that we should be witnesses to God s grace and love. The Acts reading describes how Peter, after healing the lame man at the Temple, bears witness to Christ and calls his listeners to turn back to God. The Psalm speaks about God s goodness to God s faithful ones, and exhorts people to turn back to God. John s letter teaches, in a clear and direct way, that following Christ has to change how we live, with sin no longer being welcome in our lives, and Christ s righteousness being the pattern by which we now live. Finally, in the Gospel reading from Luke, Jesus challenges his disciples, who are now witnessing him as the Risen One, to believe and to be witnesses that call others to repent and believe and find life in Christ. The implication this week is that, as all of these biblical witnesses teach, we are also called to become witnesses to Christ, changing our own lives to live as true Christ-followers and calling others to repent, believe, and find life. The resurrection is more than just a past event or a ticket to life after death. It is a lived reality that has the potential to change us and our world. Our readings today are both joyful and challenging. The call to be witnesses to Christ is one of the most transforming messages we can receive, because it requires us to live, speak, think, and act like Christ.
