Weekly Financial Statement For St. George s Church Amount This Week Year to Date Income Expenditure Two Beeches is a residential home in Wallis Road. Occasionally there s a Eucharist held in the home and you re very welcome to come. The next service is on Wednesday at 2.00pm. Archdeacon s Visitation There are two events which share this title. One of them is in early June when the Archdeacon admits the new Churchwardens for the coming year. The other one, which is happening on Wednesday afternoon, is when the Archdeacon visits this parish to inspect the records and to make sure that the Church is keeping to the Church of England rules! She ll check the contents of the safe, inspect the records and have a look at the fabric of the building. If things are not in order, your Churchwardens and Parish Priest may be in prison by this time next week! Tweenies meets on Wednesday for a Pamper Evening starting at 6.50pm. There are 2 spare treatment slots - please see Lynda Sheffield for details. George s Men are off to visit the Urban Island Brewery on Friday evening. This is a new brewery which has been set up in Hilsea. Please meet outside the Church at 7.00pm. The Servant Queen is a beautiful book published by The Bible Society to mark her majesty s 90 th birthday. The Queen has written the introduction herself and the text uses her own words to illustrate her Christian faith. A copy of the book is on the book table. Please don t take it away, but look at it in Church and if you d like to order a copy, add your name to the list. The cost is 1.20 each, which also covers the postage. 4 Lara Williams, a former member of St. George s Youth Club, is flying off to Australia on Wednesday. She s taking several months to get there and is travelling around the world first. We wish her a very safe journey. Bishop Godfrey Ashby, who worshipped at St. George s for a few years from 2008, is celebrating his 60 th Anniversary of Priesting on May 27 th. Please sign a card for him at the back of Church. Famine in Ethiopia suffering yet again Children has help and the retiring donated to the Sadly this poor country is with a famine. Save the launched a special appeal to collections today will be appeal. Waterlooville Music Festival is just 5 weeks away. Please help publicise the concerts by taking posters and fliers from the table in Church and distributing them to shops, surgeries, offices, etc. To avoid duplication, it would assist the organisers if you could please write on the book table sheet where you are taking them. Thy Kingdom Come is an initiative from the two Archbishops. They have asked every Church in England to pray especially for our nation in the week between Ascension and Pentecost. At St. George s we ve produced prayer cards inviting your prayers for your family, our town and our nation. These will be distributed today. You will be given 2 cards each. Please keep one for your own use and give the other card away to a friend or family member so that they too can join in this great wave of prayer across England. Many Thanks Sandra Hewett would like to thank all of her church family for the kind thoughts, prayers, cards, flowers and for supporting her by coming to her Mother s funeral. It helped her through a very emotional time. It really meant a lot. Thank you so much. Shirley Harris, now known as Shirley King, has died. Shirley was a member of St. George's Church for many years but has recently been living in a residential care home in Havant. Her funeral will be in Church, probably the first week of June.

5 Wine Tasting Evening. David Cavey is holding another of his popular wine tasting evenings in the Church Hall at 7.30pm on Saturday May 21st. Tickets priced 10, to include a ploughman s supper, are on sale today from Jane Rice-Oxley. Any donations of raffle prizes would be gratefully received by Linda Wainwright. Come and join in the fun and bring your friends along! Gift Bag Tombola It has been decided to have a gift bag tombola at the summer fete instead of a tin tombola this year. If you are able to donate a gift bag with a gift inside or just a small gift without the bag, this would be gratefully received. Please give donations to Sheilah Hall or Lynn Winter. Thank you The Rowan s Moonlight Memories Walk is taking place on June 18 th. Graham Biggs is taking part and would appreciate sponsorship to raise money for this wonderful hospice. Jam Jars Do you have any small/medium jam jars with lids that you could recycle for the Summer Fete jams and chutney stall? Please pass on to Lesley Handy or Lisa Toft. Thank you 1st Horndean Scout Group are raising funds to support Explorer Scouts going to Switzerland for two weeks in August with a horse-racing evening on the 25th June in St. George s Church Hall. Start time is 7.30pm and tickets cost 5 which includes a light supper. There will also be a licensed bar on site. There is also an opportunity to sponsor a horse ( 5), or a race ( 25). 6 Cecil Wilman Candy and John Williams and Mike Wilman wish to send their grateful thanks to everyone for all the cards and good wishes sent to them over the sad loss of Cecil Wilman. In particular, grateful thanks to the Clergy, Altar Servers, Organist and Choir and those people who made such a valuable contribution to Cecil's funeral service. Everyone's support has been overwhelming and so very much appreciated. Thank you. Candy Williams Key Safe Theft You'll be sorry to hear that last weekend the key safe from the Sacristy lobby has been stolen. In it are duplicate copies of all the Church keys! It's not known exactly when it went or who took it, but there's a small chance it may find its way back. Please keep an eye open for a large, yellow Morrison's shopping bag left around the Church grounds, as that's how the safe was transported from the Church. The police are involved, as are the Archdeacon and the Church insurance company. Some of the locks have already been changed and others might be changed this week. If you hold a door key and it doesn't work, please see the Churchwardens to arrange for a new key, although these may not be available straight away. Waterlooville Music Festival tickets for the Friday evening Party Night with The Foreverly Brothers are now sold out. Last Night of the Proms sold out months ago. Several other evening concerts could sell out soon. WMF Book Stall Do you have any good condition hard back books? Please see Anne Morgan for more details. Stewards Once again the Music Festival is coming up on us fast. As usual there is a need for a solid covering of stewards required for the various concerts during the festival. The rota sheet is now available at the back of church awaiting names. The success of the festival comes down to the people involved and the stewards play a very important part in this, therefore any support you can give is greatly appreciated. Please see Dick Handy for further information. Poetry Book It is time to produce another poem book from the amazing talents of our congregation! Please can you put your thinking hats on and hand in your original odes to Jane Rice-Oxley. There are very few criteria. Anyone of any age may submit a piece (or pieces) but it must be your own work with your name appended. Sonnets, verse, doggerel, limerick or even the modern prose stuff that doesn't rhyme, anything will be considered! Jane Rice-Oxley is looking forward to being deluged in your offerings, thanks in advance.
