3 The Feast of Pentecost is a day of promises fulfilled. The promised Spirit of God is poured out. The baptized have become children of God and joint heirs with Christ. By the power of the Spirit we have seen the face of the Father in his only begotten Son and been saved by him. Bless the Lord, O my soul. Throughout the history of the church, Christians has celebrated confirmations on the Feast of Pentecost. In the rite of confirmation, we affirm our faith in the promise that God made to us in baptism, the promise sealed upon us with the Holy Spirit. We are not making promises to God, but we are making promises to the community we call the church and, perhaps more importantly, to ourselves. These promises serve as our public profession of intent. In light of the promises of baptism, we are called by the Holy Spirit to make our own promises to one another as brothers and sisters in Christ. You are the fire of rebirth. You poured out your Spirit on your people Israel. You breathe life into our dry bones. Your son Jesus promised to send the spirit to us that the world may know your peace and truth. Pour out your Holy Spirit, and breathe new life into us gathered here. C O God, who on this day taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. 7 Sermon Hymn of the Day Njoo Kwetu, Roho Mwena Confirmation P I ask you to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin, and confess the faith of the church. Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God? C I renounce them.

8 P Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God? C I renounce them. P Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you from God? C I renounce them. P Do you believe in God the Father? C I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. P Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? C I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. P Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? C I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. A sponsor presents the confirmand. Merciful God, we thank you for Patrick, whom you have made your own by water and the Word in baptism. You have called him to yourself, enlightened him with the gifts of your Spirit, and nourished him in the community of faith. Uphold your servants in the gifts and promises of baptism, and unite the hearts of all whom you have brought to new birth. We ask this in the name of Christ. C Amen.

9 The presiding minister addresses the confirmand. P You have made public profession of your faith. Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in holy baptism: to live among God's faithful people, to hear the word of God and share in the Lord's supper, to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people, following the example of Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth? The confirmand affirms these promises. P People of God, do you promise to support Patrick and pray for him in his life in Christ? C We do, and we ask God to help and guide us. P Let us pray. We give you thanks, O God, that through water and the Holy Spirit you give us new birth, cleanse us from sin, and raise us to eternal life. Stir up in Patrick Michael the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever. C Amen. A Let us rejoice with Patrick, our brother in Christ. C We rejoice with you in the life of baptism. Together we will give thanks and praise to God and proclaim the good news to all the world. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. There is a box in the narthex during the month of May to submit your favorite. We are looking for more people to assist during worship services. We need worship assistants, communion assistants, readers, power point power operators, and sound system operators. Training is available. See Pastor if interested. It s not too early to be thinking about our annual flea market that will be held on Saturday, May 28. Start collecting your unneeded treasures. See a committee member if you have donations. There is room to store them in the Parish House. Living Word s Relay for Life team is having a Flamingo Fundraiser! For a $15 (or more if you wish) donation you can sponsor your very own plastic flamingo to promote awareness for the Eastern Montgomery County Relay for Life. Your flamingo will also include a sign that has a fact about cancer, or you can choose to donate one in memory or in honor of a loved one who has fought the battle against cancer. When & Where: The flamingos will be displayed on the front lawn of the church the week leading up to the Relay for Life, June 12th through June 19th.
