5 DEDICATION OF THE NEWLY RENOVATED SWIFT MEMORIAL ORGAN Today we welcome Dr. David Wagner as our guest organist. Dr. Wagner is Program Director and host at Detroit s classical and jazz station WRCJ-FM. He is also Professor of Music at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan. Previously, Dave was the morning host at WGUC, the classical music station in Cincinnati, and for 17 years he was the afternoon host and Program Director of WQRS-FM, the classical music station in Detroit. He has also been program director of KMZT in Los Angeles and KTIM in San Francisco. Dr. Wagner holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan. In addition to his work as a solo performer, he has also been organist and harpsichordist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Wagner is the recipient of the Palmer Christian award from the University Of Michigan School Of Music for postdoctoral achievement in the field of music performance, and the Arts Achievement Award from Wayne State University. His compact disc recording Bright and Clear was named Best Classical Recording of a solo artist at the 1998 Motor City Music Awards. Dr. Wagner is the coeditor and author of the book The Omnibus Guide to Classical CD s, published by G. Schirmer and Co. On this Sunday of thanksgiving, we will dedicate our Newly Renovated Swift Memorial Organ, and are delighted that Dr. Wagner is providing all of the worship music this morning. During our meal shared together after worship, he will describe briefly the major work that has been completed on the organ during the past many months. Following our meal and fellowship, all are invited back into the sanctuary for an organ mini-concert where we will have the opportunity to hear, and to gain a better understanding of, the results of this renovation. Bill and Virginia Johnstone started this tradition years ago and it has been continued by other members. The Harvest Table this year will be set up by the Nancy Jackson. After worship the fruits and vegetables that will store well at room temp for a day or two will be packed into the Thanksgiving boxes that the Deacons prepare for local needy families. The rest we will take home or share at coffee hour. The deadline for next week s bulletin is Tuesday, November 25 at 12:00 pm. I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, And sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High. Psalm 7:17 Dave Wagner will talk briefly during the meal, and then all will be invited into the sanctuary to listen to a short mini concert and brief talk from Dave about our newly restored organ. Join us for our Church Decorating Party Christmas Trees and Greens at Fort Street Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Please come and help swag the Sanctuary, and reforest the Narthex, Great Hall and Stapleton Chapel. 10 Fort Street Nominations Session Class of 2017 Jack Callas, Tim Moran, Loretta Stanton, Tom Turner, and Tracy Lemus Jack Callas was baptized in 1948 at Scott's Methodist Church, Scotts, MI, confirmed in faith in 1959 at Allen Park Presbyterian Church, Allen Park, MI. He joined FS Presbyterian Church in 1982, served several terms as elder and chaired several committees of session, including Facilities, Christian Education and Personnel. Jack is married to Kate Callas, wife of 41 years; father of daughters Beth, Elena and Robin, Grosse Pointe Park resident since He retired from architect and has been a member of the FS Chorale. Jack s hobbies are singing, cooking, reading, and golf. Tim Moran and Aimée and began attending Fort Street in 1981, shortly after we moved into the city when she was employed by then-manufacturer s Bank. We joined the church (based on her Presbyterian background and my new enthusiasm) as members late in 1982 and have been active since that time. Loretta Stanton joined Fort Street in 1987 with her husband Gary and son Gary Jr. She served as Elder at Fort Street from and has been the driving force behind the Wedding Evangelism Committee, coordinating dozens of weddings and conducting numerous tours of the facility in recent years and bringing many new members to Fort Street. Loretta has been a Worship Lay Reader, served on the Spiritual Development and Wedding Evangelism committees. Loretta s career path has included the banking and mortgage industries as well as event planning and related entrepreneurial pursuits. Her Wedding Evangelism activities have generated a steady income stream for Fort Street, and continue to promote our beautiful historic facility to the community and to potential new members. Loretta s hope for Fort Street is, making sure our church continues to be a spiritual beacon in Detroit. No bio s are available at this time for Tom Turner and Tracey Lemus Board of Deacons Class of 2017 I have served on Session twice, a four-year term during the pastorate of Dr. Robert Crilley and a threeyear term during the pastorate of Rev. Mark Keely. I have served on committees, led committees, taught Sunday School, preached, and sung in the Chorale in the past. I have also been Fort Street s ex-officio historian, and was able to give a lecture series on the church with research funded by the Detroit 300 project at the time of the city s celebration those lectures were used as background information by the denomination in their recent General Assembly in Detroit. Our two children, Theo and Kyla, were baptized at Fort Street and remain members, though their careers have taken them to Wichita, KS, and to Chicago respectively. I follow the adventures of the Sunday Schoolers I taught in the past with pride and avidity. We are a Fort Street family with many, many friends and many life experiences that bind us to our home church. My past Presbyterian work also includes service to the Presbytery as a delegate from Fort Street, as a committee member, and in a staff position as the Peacemaking Enabler (best title ever!). I am currently writing my doctoral dissertation in Early American History at Wayne State University, the most recent development in my career, but my background is in journalism and in freelance writing for newspapers, magazines, and online periodicals. 4 Pam Sharrow, Nancy Jackson, Val Edwards, Marilyn Moore, Greg Jenkins Pam Sharrow has been a member of fort street since She has served as a deacon 5 or 6 times. She had one term as an elder. she taught sunday School for 6 years in the 80's (when her children were in middle school and no one else would do it)! She occasionally does a childrens message or teaches a class for Ms. Judith. She is a faithful member of Fort Street, attending most Sundays, and serves as one of the worship coordinators. She knows just about everyone by name, and encourages everyone to sign the get well and sympathy cards, keeping track of members, and sending flowers/memorial gifts as needed. She is delighted to be going back on deacons. She and her husband Robb raised 4 children at Fort Street. She is delighted to have 6 grandchildren,

11 is hoping for a few more! Pam is a registered nurse with a MSN and is a certified women s health nurse practictioner. She works in the Henry Ford System at Cottage Medical Center in Breast Imaging. Nancy Jackson has been a member Fort Street since She has served on various committees: Community Fellowship, Spiritual Development/Spiritual Life, Worship & Arts, Mission, Mission Self Study and the Pastor Nominating Committee. She has Served as Deacon: 2005/2006and as an Served as Elder: , , , Nancy currently work as an Associate Medical Researcher in the Orthopedic Research Laboratory at Providence Hospital, Southfield, Michigan. She is married to stand-up comedian and sometimes physician, deacon and elder, Robert Jackson. She is the mother of three, lovely, talented and kind daughters, Laura, Carrie and Melanie. Valerie Edwards is a native Detroiter. She graduated from Immaculate High school in 1978, and was introduced to Fort Street by her sister, and later became a member in She has made Her career in Stationary Engineering while working for the City of Detroit as a Refrigeration Equipment Operator. Greg Jenkins lives in Allen Park with his wife Marion and his sons Richard and Max. Greg teaches high school English in Riverview. He has been a member of Fort Street since 2003, and wants to see the church grow and prosper. He has been active at Fort Street with the Sunday school program, The Children of Abraham, Community Fellowship Committee, Mission Trips, and the Nominating Committee. Bobby Ponder (No bio available) will serve out one year Deacon s position. Pick up your new Steeple for this month in the Narthex. The Church offices will resume on Tuesday, December 2nd at 9:00 a.m. Marilyn Denise Moore has been a member of Fort Street for over eleven years. She is an advocate for children and has worked in the Nursery for over 29 years. Marilyn grew up in Detroit, She is the only girl in a family of five boys, she grew up happily with five wonderful brothers. She earned a BS degree in Early Childhood Development at Madonna University and a AA in Early Childhood Education at Wayne Community College. She has worked in the Open Door program as a cook, and finds true joy in seeing the guest at the Open Door enjoy their meals. Marilyn has served as an Elder and Deacon. She has also served on the Nominating committee. She enjoys her Fort Street Family and the church activities, Marilyn feels that her life is complete since she became a member of the Fort Street family. 5
