Baptism Preparation classes can be completed at either St. Hilary (Beth Rado, ) or at St. Sebastian (Cathy Sivec ext. 134 or sivecc@stsebastian.org). Call either parish for times and registration details. Proof of attendance should be presented to St. Vincent Church prior to the baptism. Please call the rectory to schedule baptisms. Marriages: Couples intending to marry should call at the rectory at least SIX MONTHS prior to the marriage. It is required to have copies of Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation records, if these Sacraments are not received at St. Vincent. Wedding times on Saturday are at 2:00 PM. Parish School of Religion (PSR) Pre-School - 8th: Classes are September through May. Classes are held in St. Vincent Grade School on Sundays from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (Convert Classes): Classes begin in September: For information, call Hospital/Sick/Shut-in Visitation : Please notify the Rectory when a parishioner is hospitalized, shut-in or ill. Yet each word has deep roots in our tradition. At an ordination we select men for service to the community. Ordo is a Latin word drawn not from pagan religious life but from Imperial Rome. It meant a distinct body standing apart from the people, such as a body of people responsible for civil governance, senators for example. Think of the selectmen or board of governors in your civic home, and you will get the idea. The church borrowed the term to describe the place of certain people within the people of God, thus the "order of deacons," "the order of presbyters," and even "the order of virgins, catechumens, widows, neophytes, penitents," and so on, as distinct groups within the church. Just as ancient Rome had various uniforms for the ranks and stations in civil life, so too did certain garments give clues to membership in an "order" in the church. So, our tradition favors the idea of an ordination liturgy not as receiving something so much as being received. This is clearly expressed in the liturgy. The "kiss of peace" is given only by the ordaining bishop and priests to the newly "ordained," not by the faithful, the deacons, or the concelebrating bishops who are present. Rev. NORM Let me add my thanks to the many sponsors and people who volunteered to make our parish carnival a success, an occasion of joy. As we reflect upon this feast of Pentecost, we don t often think of the Holy Spirit as a wonderful resource within and among us to foster a spirit of playfulness. The Holy Spirit obviously guides and strengthens us in many ways. One of the significant fruits of the Spirit, as mentioned in Galatians 5, is joy. We have heard that the word gospel means Good News. Events such as our carnival don t automatically make joy happen. However, our relationship with our Creator God who loves us is meant to give us an inner joy. This goodness can be expressed outwardly and deepened through uplifting, positive, and enriching human experiences. In our everyday relationships and work we are called to exhibit the joy of knowing God s goodness and love. When we live that way, we can pass on a deeper sense of happiness and fulfillment to a world that needs to experience a more lasting joy that ultimately comes from within, from the Spirit we call Holy. May Joy to the World be more than a popular Christian hymn. May it be a daily expression of living with greater faith, hope, and love within all our everyday circumstances. SAVE THE DATE Fr. A KEY NOTE TO PARISHIONERS INVOLVED WITH MINISTRIES AT ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CHURCH All doors to St. Vincent de Paul Church are scheduled to be re-keyed commencing the first week of June. Anyone currently in possession of a key will need to request a replacement in order to have access to the church. Only those parishioners serving in a ministry requiring access to the church other than during regular business hours (Monday-Friday - 8:30 am - 4 pm) will be issued a key. If your ministry only uses the church during regular business hours, you may stop at the rectory office and the parish staff will open the church door for you. For new keys, please contact Connie Pacanovsky at ext. 102 or at Connie@StVincentChurch.com. New numbered keys will be issued, as needed. All key holders will sign a Receipt Form listing your key number and acknowledging that the key will be returned when access to the church is no longer needed for your ministry. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL AUXILIARY Parishioners: The record number of food requests for the 2015 holidays brought us to the realization that the need is still great in our community. In addition, the weekly twenty bags of groceries that we donate are met with much appreciation. This means that your weekly gifts - your jars of peanut butter or boxes of pasta or cans of soup - are valuable! Thank you again for sharing and caring!
