The agricultural metaphors in all of today's readings give richness to the message that the word of God, cultivated in our hearts, bears much fruit in our lives. Creation itself awaits the redemption of all, even as our bodies await the resurrection. Just as we will rejoice in the fulfillment of God's word, so will all of creation sing for joy in the Reign of God. The word of God is effective and holy; it brings about exactly what it says. It is not futile or empty, but rich in meaning for those who hear and are healed. Those who hear the word of God and keep it will, with all creation, bear much fruit and sing for joy. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. ALTAR SOCIETY T h a n k y o u t o everyone who has sent in their dues for the Altar Society. We thank you for your support! If you have not paid the $5 dues there is still time! You can put it in the dues envelope if you have it or a plain envelope marked Altar Society Dues and drop it in the weekly collection basket. We invite everyone to our monthly meetings. They run from September to the May Breakfast. Again, thank you for all of your support.

4 St. Vincent de Paul Church Page Four Sunday, July 16, 2017 A WORD FROM THE DEACON We see again today that Jesus often used the stuff of everyday life to unpack deep spiritual realities for his followers. Plants, trees, and things that grow seemed to be a favorite of his. We have a plant on a table at home (a variety of Oxalis, I think) that is especially sensitive to sunlight. It is amazing to me how persistently it orients itself to take maximum advantage of the sunlight that is available to it. This little, delicate plant serves in some way as a sacramental for me, reminding me of my own inclinations. Multiple theologians up and down the ages have recognized that humans by our nature are attracted to BEAUTY, GOODNESS, and TRUTH. We naturally turn toward these when we are in their presence. The exploration of them in the natural order of things gives us a glimpse of the divine. God is, of course, the source of beauty, goodness, and truth; the very ground of their being. These universal inclinations and our curiosity about them become, for many, a pathway to knowing God. We are all on this great pilgrimage: this movement toward God. Soon we will be starting a new cycle of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). RCIA is intended for seekers who wish to explore more deeply who God is and the ultimate meaning and purpose of our lives. We learn about our Christian story and especially about Jesus Christ - truly God and truly human. For those who are not yet Christian, the RCIA journey culminates in Baptism and full initiation into the Catholic Church. It is also intended for those already baptized but considering whether they are being called into full communion with the Catholic Church. Finally, those who are already Catholic are encouraged to participate, as well, to explore their Catholic faith in a deep, adult-like sort of way. More will be said about this in the weeks ahead. Please consider this for yourself, or someone you know who is seeking (all of us, actually). Be in touch with ELLEN DIES (ellen@stvincentchurch.com). FAMILY PERSPECTIVES Today s gospel is the parable of the sower. God is the sower who has given life and love abundantly to our families. But is his love growing and bearing fruit? May our families be the fertile ground that receives God s love with joy and grows generous, loving and responsible people. Don t let anxiety and the lure of riches choke out his Word. WORLD APOSTOLATE OF FATIMA The World Apostolate of Fatima, Cleveland Division will host the Northeast Ohio Fatima Centennial Conference Our Lady Speaks July 28 & 29 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Independence, Ohio in commemoration of the 100 th Anniversary of the apparitions of Fatima.
