4 St. Vincent de Paul Church Page Four Sunday, April 15, 2018 A WORD FROM THE PASTOR As our Capital Campaign continues, we celebrate that we have reached the $1 million mark. At the same time our ultimate goal is $1.6 million. Over 200 parish households have contributed. There are still 500+ individuals or families who have not yet given. We continue to create ways to reach potential donors. We know that providing opportunities for people to grow in our Catholic Christian Faith, a deeper sense of parish community, and outreach to the world around us is an important foundation for giving not only of our treasure but of our time and talent. Our Parish Pastoral Council and various Parish Commissions are exploring and developing ways for us to become a more vibrant, alive-in-faith parish. As mentioned in an earlier parish bulletin, we have significantly enhanced our presence in social media. Our recently hired Communications Coordinator, Jennifer Douglas-O'Neill, and her husband, Mike, as backup, have spent many hours creating a totally new parish website. They have demonstrated that faith-filled "millennials" have much to offer our church and our world. If you have not visited our website please do so. Give us your feedback. In the near future you will be able to read important ideas and insights that are discussed at our monthly Pastoral Council and Commission meetings. In order to be aware of current events or announcements please follow our FaceBook Share with others our website and our FaceBook presence. Let us also keep making a "gospel difference" in our everyday lives. The Village of St. Edward invites you to join other community-minded men and women interested in becoming part of The Village s Community Leadership Circle. Open to those with a heart for seniors and passion for supporting the Catholic senior living facility in our community, you are invited to attend an information brunch, Saturday, April 28, 2018, 10:30 a.m., on the Village of St. Edward campus, 3131 Smith Rd., Fairlawn, To attend or for more information, please RSVP to: Patsy Biddinger (330) or Vondea Sheaffer, VP of Development, at (234) vondea.sheaffer@vsecommunities.org DIVORCE RECOVERY WORKSHOP at St. Vincent When: 7 p.m. Wednesdays April 11 through May 16 Presentations followed by refreshments Where: Scullen Room Dates, Topics, and Presenters April 11: Introduction of the 6-week program * Marie Rader, Marie Ice, Jim Welling April 18: The Church View on Divorce and Separation * Fr. Contact: Marie at or Jim at SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE The Church's social teaching is a rich treasure of wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society. Modern Catholic social teaching has been articulated through a tradition of papal, conciliar, and episcopal documents. The depth and richness of this tradition can be understood best through a direct reading of these documents. The St., Vincent/St. Sebastian social justice ministry s next meeting will be on after the 8:30 Mass at the St. Vincent rectory. Please join us! We will complete the reading of Pope Paul VI s 1971 Apostolic Letter Octogesima Adveniens, A Call to Action. A program in June will discuss gun violence, and in October the group will present information on the National Council of Catholic Bishop s Faithful Citizenship document. In November the group will present a program on mental illness and supports available in the community. For more information, contact Rita Rochford, rbrochford@gmail.com. The Risen One goes before us and he accompanies us along the paths of the world. He is our hope. He is the true peace of the world. - Pope Benedict XVI
