Baptisms are scheduled for the 2nd/4th Sundays of the month after 11 a.m. Mass (12:30 p.m.) Marriages: Couples intending to marry should call at the rectory at least SIX MONTHS prior to the marriage. It is required to have copies of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation records if these sacraments are not received at St. Vincent. Wedding times on Saturday are at 2 PM. In today's reading from Matthew's Gospel, Jesus reminds us of our freedom and our responsibility for our lives. He calls us to look beyond the words of the commandments, all the way to their meaning. Look beyond the adultery to the selfishness that poisons our love. Look beyond the murder to the anger that eats away at our compassion. Look beyond the perjured testimony to the lies and deception that drive our behavior. Our vocation is to choose life for ourselves, and to choose a path through our part of the world that helps make life possible and more abundant for others as well. Copyright (c) J. S. The best resource is to go to the website of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops: Look up Church Teachings on the Rights of Migrants and Refugees. Also go to our diocese of Cleveland Catholic Charities website: action. Both these websites give excellent summaries of Scripture and church teachings on the various ways we can promote the consistent ethic of life, standing up for life in positive ways from conception to natural death. As you already know, I am not celebrating the Eucharist with you this weekend. I am on vacation combined with some retreat time in Phoenix Arizona. Our collection will be used to share the faith with our brothers and sisters in Latin America and the Caribbean. If you missed the collection, it s not too late to give! TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION By the early 1950s some scholars were calling for the restoration of Communion of the faithful on Good Friday, since by then only a priest received, consuming the host from the Holy Thursday repository. In 1955 the new Good Friday liturgy was timed to begin at three o'clock everywhere, and included the option of Holy Communion, but without the Precious Blood that had originally been part of the liturgy. Today, there is increasing debate among theologians. Some feel that it would be better to fast from the Eucharist on Good Friday, focusing on the mystery of the cross and highlighting the Easter Communion. Others say that this Communion infuses the sadness of the day with awareness of Christ's victory. It is not a day of mourning, of course, and the Passion according to John grounds the liturgy in a sense of Christ's victory over death and the triumph of the cross. The tradition is rich and varied, and we are still in the early stages of recovering an ancient way of doing things. Why do we call the day "good"? The English and Dutch languages share this name, and its origin stems from the name "God's Friday." The traditional name for the day in Latin is Feria VI in Parasceve, which translates as "The Sixth Day of the Week of Preparation." Other languages make do with "Holy Friday." In another part of England, as in Denmark, the people used to call it "Long Friday," a good description for a quiet day without work and no chance for play or a good meal! --Rev. It is a new group who volunteers its talents to bake items for special celebrations and events in our parish. Meet Mrs. Dies after school and we will bake some wonderful items to share with the parish. We should be done by 4: SkyMax in North Canton Leave St. Vincent at 11. Arrive in North Canton at 11:30 to jump! $13 for an hour of jumping. Add $4 if you would like to go another ½ hour. Return to St. Vincent by 2 at the latest. If more than 14 attend, I will need parents to help drive. If less than 5 go, the event will be cancelled. R.S.V.P by March 19 th. WAIVER MUST BE SIGNED BEFOREHAND BY PARENTS: UPCOMING EVENTS!
