Owen Korte PLEASE, NO ACTIVITIES: THE EVENINGS OF APRIL SEEK CONFERENCE: This is a 5 day conference sponsored by FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) held in Indianapolis, January 3-7. I, along with several HT parishioners and Cedar teachers, are attending this. Speakers include: Leah Darrow, Jason Evert, Jennifer Fulwiler, Dr. Scott Hahn, Sr. Miriam James Heidland, Sr. Bethany Madonna, Curtis Martin, Fr. Mike Schmitz, D. Edward Sri, Chris Stafanik and many other popular Catholic Evangelizers. Several Grade School teachers from West Catholic and parishioners from the region joined on a bus with folks from Norfolk to make the trip. I ll let you know more in the next bulletin what I witnessed. FAMILY FORMATION: THIS WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9. THE TOPIC WILL BE MARRIAGE. LOTS OF TIME FOR DISCUSSION AND PRAYER AT THIS ONE. EXODUS 90: For Men: A band of brothers recently finished a spiritual journey to freedom where by we met weekly, shared our progress with the disciplines, reviewed our week and the insights we got from the Book of Exodus (which guided us on our journey). We all found a new sense of freedom and the strength to recognize the areas of our lives that are way too dependent on things, entertainment, food and drink. It was like boot-camp for spiritual draftees. Some of us are ready to go on this journey again and take others with us forming new groups. Visit with us and see what we are talking about: Roger Filips, Casey Christensen, Carly Christensen, Keith Loecker, Marcus Heithold, Larry Lammers, Kevin Uhing and John Kleinschmit. We are going to meet on Jan. 13 at 8pm. The new cohort of Exodus 90 would begin on Jan. 21 and end on Holy Saturday. An article in Our Sunday Visitor called Exodus 90 brutal, demanding and life-changing. It s pillars are Prayer, Fraternity and Ascetism. Check it out go to MOVING CEDAR FORWARD: A CAMPAIGN TO PAY OFF THE REMODELING DEBT, GET SOME GOOD BUSSES, HELPING WITH THE BUDGET You can stop over at the Development Office located at the main entrance of the Werner Activity Center to fill out a pledge form. You can also stop at the parish office to make your pledge. Please pray for the success of this campaign. It is very important for the financial health of our school. Our Campaign Prayer is the Memorare, the same one picked for the first Cedar Campaign back in I encourage our parishioners and committees to keep working on this and make gift contacts. Gifts of stock or other securities for year end gifts are appreciated; work this out with your broker. BENEDICT S HEALING MINISTRY: for physical, spiritual, mental & emotional healing, Mass on 2nd Tuesday of each month at St Benedict s in Yankton. SCHOL ARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: The Omaha Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (OACCW) offers a $ scholarship to Catholic female Seniors. Rural North Central Deanery (RNC) offers a $ scholarship. Deadline is January 15, applications are available from the High School Guidance Counselor. DONATIONS IN THE 2018 TAX YEAR: We will close our books for 2018 on January 7th. If you would like a donation acknowledged in the 2018 tax year, please date it on or before Dec 31, Also, don t forget about your End of the Year stewardship envelope for such gifts of stewardship SEMINARY FUND COLLECTION: There is a special envelope in your packet for the Seminary Fund. FINANCIAL NOTE: We had some additional Christmas & Year end donations that really helped out. We are still short our Christmas budget by $6,640. Overall, we are good right now and have the January 4th payroll included in the figures below. Points from the Parish & Community Fiscal Weekly Update - Dec. 31, 2018 The Payroll for Jan. 4th is included in the expense line! Page 3 ARCHBISHOP S ANNUAL APPEAL: Our gifts to the 2018 Archbishop s Annual Appeal bear witness to God s love and mercy. To date, our parish has committed $32,475 towards our goal of $38,363. We have not received an update from the Chancery for two weeks. PRAYER SHAWLS: We have a new supply of Prayer Shawls. Please give warmth & comfort to your friends or relatives who need it. 6 The New Year is a great time to resolve to moving forward! It s a time for new beginnings, new resolutions, and renewing energy for continued accomplishments! Join Us With Renewed Energy in a Progress Push for the Moving Cedar Forward Campaign The Moving Cedar Forward Campaign goals are debt relief of the Cedar Catholic building renovation fund, a couple newer school buses, and establishing a budget contingency fund. The Moving Cedar Forward project actually began 12 years ago with the first vehicle raffle gift and has been half funded by vehicle raffles and half by loan. It s time to completely finish the project. January is Progress Push Month to reach the need-based campaign goal of $1.9 million. Approximately 260 gifts/pledges have been received to total $841,589. In conjunction with the January Campaign Progress Push, is an invitation to all to the Catholic Development Committee Brunch, on Sunday, January 20, 2019; 11:30 a.m. at the MWAC Learning Center.
