2 Page 2 From the Pastor s Desk by Fr. Owen Korte FAMILY FORMATION: As I write this I anticipate the first night of Family Formation. I pray to the Holy Spirit for our parents and for our children who will move into new terrain. With this new terrain will come fertile possibilities. I think of my dad wanting to drive around in the spring of the year surveying the land and seeing his and fellow farmers corn and bean start to show the definition of the rows as the seedlings poked through the ground. That is my dream and hope for Family Formation. NEXT FAMILY FORMATION WILL BE OCTOBER 4, 6:15-7:30 PM. THE TOPIC WILL BE THE EUCHARIST. ANYONE MAY ATTEND THE ADULT PART TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE MASS. Archbishops Annual Appeal: We welcome Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mike Ashton, who will be at Holy Trinity Parish as a Guest Speaker this year. This is Mike s second visit to Hartington as he came to a HT Board meeting and visited our school last week. Dr. Ashton will speak prior to masses next weekend. Thinking Ahead: Pastoral Council will meet on Sept. 28. Clergy Conference: Oct No mass on Monday or Tuesday. Annual Blue Mass: We honor all those in our community are considered first responders: County Sherrif s Department, Volunteer Fire Fighters, Sate Patrol, EMT s, members of the National Guard. It is called the Blue Mass because of the traditional color of the policemen when this tradition first started in other places. This year, the second year, we host it here in Hartington. It takes place on Monday, Sept. 25 at 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Would love to see the church filled. Id like to have the 4th Degree KC s be in attendance to be an honor guard. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal, Pope Francis has decided to grant a plenary indulgence opportunity throughout the entire anniversary year, which began Nov. 27, 2016, and will end Nov. 26, There are three ways of obtaining the indulgence, one of which is to pray before any statue of Our Lady of Fatima. How to Obtain the Plenary Indulgence Pray before any statue of Our Lady of Fatima This applies to the pious faithful who visit with devotion a statue of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly exposed for public veneration in any church, oratory or proper place during the days of the anniversary of the apparitions, the 13th of each month from May to October (2017), and there devoutly participate in some celebration or prayer in honor of the Virgin Mary. Regarding this second way, the rector of the Fatima Shrine told CNA that the visit to the statue of the Virgin, does not necessarily have to be only at Fatima or exclusively in Portugal, but can be done anywhere in the world. Those seeking an indulgence must also pray an Our Father, recite the Creed and invoke Our Lady of Fatima. To obtain the plenary indulgence, the faithful must also fulfill the ordinary conditions: go to Confession and Communion, be interiorly detached from sin, and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father. LEAVING ON A JET PLANE: I will be gone from the parish Oct. 30-November 9 (recovering on the 10th). I am going on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I have worked to have most of the masses covered while I am gone. The only day not covered is Nov. 2 (All Souls Day). We will have a special evening mass on Tuesday, November 14 at 7:00 pm to remember all those who have died and especially those who have died this past year. So, mark you calendars already.

May our discipleship reflect the mercy God has shown us. OACCW CONVENTION: The OACCW Convention will be held Monday, Sept 25, 2017 at the Nielsen Center, 200 Anna Stalp, West Point, NE. Registration: $25 to be turned in by Monday of this week. PART-TIME HELP: West Catholic elementary school in Fordyce is seeking part-time help for the hot lunch program. This job is approximately 10 hours per week (two hours per day from 10:45 AM to 12:45 PM). The job entails picking up the meal from Holy Trinity cafeteria, delivering meals to East Catholic in Bow Valley, then delivering meals to West Catholic in Fordyce and helping with serving and clean up. If interested please call Fr. Jim Keiter at BLUE MASS: Mass in honor of First Responders, those in law enforcement & fire safety will be held on Monday, Sept. 25th at 7pm here at Holy Trinity.
