1 St. Boniface, St. John the Baptist, St. Joseph Parishes November 16, 2014 We are all one body, one body in Christ, and we do not stand alone. We are Christ s body, His hands and feet. We will speak His word of life to everyone we meet. Fr. Hopefully, most of our farmers have completed or have nearly completed their harvest. We should continue to pray for a successful and safe completion to the harvest season. This weekend all three readings really challenge us in our own living out of the gifts that God has given us. We live in a culture in which all of us expect a return on our investment. We expect that if we invest our time, and talent and treasure into something that we will get a return several times over by that investment. If we own our own business or simply are investing for our future, we always look for a return on our investment. Imagine if God looked at each of our lives that way. The gifts and talents we have to live our lives and give him glory are all from Him. We have nothing without God. Would He see a good return on His investment in us? Would He find us living lives that are giving him the glory? Would He find us using our gifts and talents to the best of our abilities? Would He find us using the gifts of the Holy Spirit and living lives that produce the fruits of the Holy Spirit? Would He find us being good, loving, faithful Stewards of all He has given us? We look for a return on our investments. Shouldn t God? Occasionally, I may have more information to share than will fit in the Pastor s Corner. I m a big believer that we can t over communicate within a Parish or in our case Parishes so that everyone stays on the same page. This weekend is one such time. So I am initiating what I will call the Pastor s Corner Breakout, meaning I need more room than just the corner. So please refer to the bulletin insert for more important news. Lastly, please keep Fr. John Pietramale and myself in your prayers for safe travels as we go to Chicago this week from Monday to Wednesday for the installation of Bishop Blasé Cupich as the new Archbishop of Chicago. Bishop Cupich is a good friend of mine and a former Priest of the Archdiocese of Omaha. Most likely within the next year or so, this appointment will also mean he is elevated to Cardinal of the Church. We depart Monday afternoon and return Wednesday afternoon. This will mean that Tuesday and Wednesday mornings this week will be Communion Services at St. John s. Have a blessed week. Please know of my prayers for all of you. Please pray for me. Fr. Jim

4 Pastor s Corner Breakout (I need a page not a corner!) I firmly believe as is stated in the Vatican II Document on the Liturgy called Sacrosanctum Concillium that the source and summit of our lives is the Eucharist. Meaning, all that we have and are, comes from Christ s gift to us in the Eucharist (The Mass), it is our source of life. All that we do and say should be directed to God in the Eucharist (The Mass) because it is the summit to which we seek to go. So what does that mean? It means that as a people of Faith, as a Parish Family, the most important time or thing we do is when we gather to pray as a family of faith at the Mass. The Mass or the Eucharistic Liturgy along with the celebration of any of the Sacraments is the most important work we do. It is the source and summit of our lives and thus we should seek to do it well. I believe that we do that well already at all three of our parishes but in an effort to keep that up and help people feel comfortable in their various ministries at our Masses we gathered a group of individuals from all three parishes last Saturday at St. John s Parish Center to plan our Liturgical calendar for the next three months and discuss things that will help our entire Parish Family experience a joyful and prayerful worship when we gather to celebrate the Mass and other Sacraments in our three beautiful Churches. I would like to offer a couple of times to gather with those who are mandated as Readers and or EMHC s for about an hour to have a little refresher about their ministry and its importance as well as go over some logistics at each of the parishes. I am offering two different dates and times, but you only need to attend one of them if you are a Reader and or EMHC. The first one will be Saturday Morning, December 6 th at 9 AM at St. Boniface. There is a Mass at 8 AM for First Saturday for those interested. The second opportunity will be on Thursday evening, December 11 th at 7 PM at St. John s. Again, you only need to attend one time. Please plan on attending one of these sessions if you are a mandated Reader or EMHC. At our gathering we did plan the Mass times and places for Holidays and Holy Days for the next three months. They are as follows: Thanksgiving November 27, 2014 Thanksgiving Vigil Mass November 26 th 7 St. Boniface Thanksgiving Day November 27 th 8 St. John the Baptist Thanksgiving Day November 27 th 9:30 St. Joseph Parishioners are invited to bring their breads or pies to any of these Masses, for a special blessing of the Thanksgiving food at the conclusion of each Mass Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception December 8, 2014 *A Vigil Mass is not allowed this year because of the 2 nd Sunday of Advent Immaculate Conception December 8 th 8 St. John the Baptist Immaculate Conception December 8 th 5:30 St. Boniface Immaculate Conception December 8 th 7:30 St. Joseph Christmas Christmas Eve Vigil December 24 th 5:30 PM Children s St. Boniface Christmas Midnight Mass December 25 St. John the Baptist Christmas Day 8 St. John the Baptist Christmas Day 9:30 St. Joseph ***If Fr. 5 New Years Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God January 1, 2015 New Year s Eve Vigil December 31 st 7 St. Boniface New Year s Day January 1 st - 8 St. John the Baptist New Year s Day January 1 st 9:30 St. Joseph Hopefully this helps you with some of your planning. I am continually amazed of God s goodness through others. This week showed God s generosity through others all the more. Last weekend we were at $15,800 in our goal of $29,000 for the Rectory renovation. This weekend I am excited to announce that we are now at $24,487. Wow! God is good! Originally, we were not doing much in the kitchen except some painting, new backsplash and a new range / microwave combination. I was approached by several parishioners and our Parish Council discussed it at our meeting this past Monday and the decision was made to put in new cupboards and countertop in the kitchen / laundry room. We can do this within our original $29,000 goal. The new cabinets will be installed December 18 th. There is light at the end of the tunnel! We will be placing a Thank You plaque in the entrance of the Rectory upon completion, listing everyone who contributed time, talent and treasure to make this renovation possible. However, I would like to acknowledge a couple of gifts now from organizations. I would like to extend special thanks to the Ladies Guild of St. John s for their generous gift of $2000 and to St. Boniface Parish for their generous gift of $5000. As a Church we often remind and encourage individuals to be good stewards through their tithe to the Church. Yet, even us, as a Church or Church organizations should practice good stewardship through our tithing. The St. Boniface FUN Night netted just over $64,000 this year. Thank you to everyone who helped make FUN Night such a huge success. In reviewing this year s event the St. Boniface Parish Council voted to tithe a little over 8% of their net profit to the Rectory renovation. I would like to commend them and the St. John s Ladies guild on showing us great examples of stewardship. I would like to conclude with just a little report and comparison concerning FUN Night, which is the largest fundraiser for St. Boniface each year. It really is a testament to God s generosity and the generosity of people as well as what happens when people support and help each other regardless of parish boundaries. In 2010, FUN Night generated a net profit of $34,000. This year it generated a net profit of $64,500. In 2010, the live auction for FUN Night made $17,491. This year it made $50,000. Wow! Great job to everyone who helped prepare and put the evening on and thank you to everyone who attended and help make it another success. God is good All the time! Have a great week. Fr. Jim
