3 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy (Isaiah 9:2-3a). This morning we gather together with increased joy to celebrate our coming Redeemer and King, Jesus! We you be filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit as you worship with us this morning. Welcome! We continue in our Advent Journey through the Pentateuch the first five books of the Bible with Exodus, as we watch God deliver his people from bondage. Next week, we will take up Leviticus and Numbers as we go from Wandering in the Desert to Wondering at the manger. Today, we have the privilege and opportunity to come and remember God s deliverance of us at His Communion Table. All those worshipping with us today, who acknowledge their sin and believe that Jesus Christ is Savior from it and now, as a result, seek to serve Him as Lord of their lives are welcome and encouraged to receive these elements of grace. Church members who have school-aged children that have not yet made profession of faith are encouraged to speak with their children about communion and their faith in Jesus. If you believe your child is ready to participate in this means of grace, please contact your Shepherding Group Elder to invite that opportunity. Pastor Michael s sermon discussion class will not meet today because of the children s program practice. Next Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m., December 16, the Sunday School children and Youth Group will lead us in a Christmas Pageant, The Twelve Symbols of Christmas about a family decorating their home for Christmas. As they add different items to their home, they discuss the meaning of each item and how they all lead to Jesus. Following the program you are invited to the Fellowship Hall for cookies made and decorated by the GEMS. The deacons gratefully acknowledge the December 2, 2018 receipts: General Fund-$9,253 and Community Christian School, $ Your offering next week, December 16, will be received for the Youth Group; December 23-Milaca Area Pantry; December 25-Guatemala Action Project (GAP); December 30-Crossroads Bible Institute.

4 Our Church Family We keep Sheryll Kjos in your prayers as she recovers from abdominal surgery that she had this past Thursday. We rejoice that Marg Timmer is back home and doing well following surgery last Monday to remove her gall bladder. Dan Minks will have shoulder replacement on Tuesday. Dan & Myra would appreciate your prayers. Our church was decorated for Christmas last week by many volunteers who shared their time and talents. Everything looks beautiful and we thank you so much. We extend a special thank you to Elaine Kuperus for decorating the outside pots. Thank you to all who participated in the Salvation Army Bell Ringing at Teal s yesterday and to those who volunteered at the Milaca Area Pantry during the month of November. Your support of this community effort is appreciated! If you still have a mitten from the Helping Hands Tree please return your unwrapped gifts to church by tomorrow, December 10. Thank you for your generous support of this program again this year! Christmas Pageant and Candlelight Service practice immediately following worship today. The program is next Sunday, December 16, at 5:00 p.m. Christmas Choir rehearsal upstairs this morning after church. SNL is today at 4:00. GEMS, Cadets, and Kids Club will all meet as will our ALPHA Class where we will take up the questions of Why and How do I Pray and Read the Bible? Everyone is welcome. We've been able to get more done with Cadets coming 5-10 minutes before 4:00 rather than coming after 4:00. Thank you, parents! Secondly, we'll be taking a club photo Sunday. All Cadets should have their complete uniform on when they arrive. Our next scheduled meeting is January 13, RecJr & REC Movie Night, tonight, December 9, at 6:30 p.m.

5 Attention all Elim Home and Country Meadows Residents! Please join the Pease Young People s groups in the chapel at 6:30 on Wednesday for a time of caroling and Christmas goodies! They will also have cards for from the congregation for you. Any family members of the residents or other congregation members are also welcome to join us in this time of Christmas joy! Cheer Baskets will be delivered this Wednesday, December 12. If you would like to give cards for those receiving the cheer baskets, the names are listed below. Bring the cards to church no later than noon on the 12th with their names clearly marked on the front of the envelope. Please help spread the joy of Christmas! This year the GAP team will be taking pre-orders to purchase coffee from a local farmer we ve come to know in Guatemala. Previous years the team has personally purchased coffee to support him and his family, and this year we will have room to bring home some extra! This is a great way to support a local farmer, his family, and the community. He can offer 1 pound bags of medium OR dark roast. If interested please sign up on the GAP bulletin board or let Julie Goslinga know by December 23rd. Space is limited so sign up if interested; cost will be $9/lb. Thank You!
