5 Sermon Notes This week will be different because my take home from Sunday is Announcements Fellowship Time - You are invited to our fellowship time that is held between worship services. This is a time to visit with friends and meet new ones! We'll have the coffee pot on and some breakfast goodies available in the Café from 8:30 8:55am and from 10:00 10:30am. We will also have coffee in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the 8:15 worship service. Wherever you head for fellowship time, we welcome you and encourage you to come! Feed & Seed Join us Wednesday, February 6 from 5:30-6:30pm in the FLC. This week s menu is Baked Potato Bar/Grilled Chicken Salad Bar/Breadsticks (Chicken tenders and Mac & Cheese for young children). Price is $7.50 per person (family maximum of $25). Reservations and/or cancellations are required by 4:30pm each Monday. 6 GLOW Wednesday night, February 6 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm for ages 3 rd to 5 th grade. Living into Joy - Adult Discipleship Opportunity led by Rev. Susan Mitchell. Come and join the conversation as we discover what it means and what it takes for us to Live into Joy! Bring your Bibles. Begins Wednesday, February 6 through Wednesday, February 27 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Sign up through the church office at Commissioning - Next Sunday at all three services we will commission our new Stephen Leaders. These very gifted people will strengthen in our congregation the gift of caring ministry. They have answered a special call to use their gifts to follow in Jesus caring footsteps. As we commission these Stephen Leaders next Sunday, let us celebrate the completion of their training for this ministry and thank God for their response to the call. Blood Drive - Our next blood drive is Monday, February 11 from 2:00-6:30pm. Make an appointment at On the day of the drive, use the Red Cross RapidPass link to speed processing once you arrive: We will process walk-ins as quickly as possible, but having an appointment and RapidPass will speed your processing and help speed the flow for everyone. Invite friends. If you cannot donate blood, consider providing some canteen snacks. The donors really appreciate the homemade items. Mary Martha Circle - Meeting on Monday, February 11 at 3:00pm at the home of Nancy Saxman, 6103 Morganshire Drive, Summerfield. Our speaker will be Judy Dyer teaching us about JUDITH the unknown woman of the Bible. All are welcome. UMM Scholarship Forms - Forms are available by the office and near the parlor or can be downloaded from the church website. Deadline is April 21 (Easter Sunday). Scholarship is in the amount of $500. 6

7 ROOTS Store: Our children s Sunday School classes have been working hard during the last few months to earn Bible Bucks! Kiddos receive Bible Bucks for attendance, answering questions, participating in discussion and memorizing scripture. During the month of February, the Roots Store will open for children to shop and spend their hard earned Bible Bucks. Please consider donating new toys/trinkets/ prizes for the store. Prizes can range in age from 3-12 years old. Donations can be brought to the office and left for Larissa Brown. Free Education Course - Offered for parents/caregivers of children under the age of 18 dealing with mental health/behavior issues (ADHD, Bipolar, Depression, OCD, etc. This course has five weekly sessions, each lasting approximately 2½ hours. Begins Thursday, February 7 at 6:30 pm and ends Thursday, March 7 at 6:30 pm. Held at First Lutheran Church, 3600 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro. If your family is dealing with any of these issues, please contact Phoebe Patterson at phoebep@triad.rr.com or Worship Arts- Drama Opportunity! - We are looking for volunteers to participate in a dramatic skit in our Maundy Thursday Service on April 18. We are looking for Disciples, 2 Adult Women, and 1 Youth Girl. The female roles will have some lines and a few of the Disciples will have speaking parts as well. If you d like to participate, contact Bev Miller at bev.miller@oakridgeumc.org or ext Spiritual Gifts Assessment - Read and reflect on Romans 12:1-8; Ephesians 4:1-7, 11-16; and I Corinthians 12. (This questionnaire is longer, but it s worth the effort.) Once you have your results, you may use that as guidance along with what you already know are your talents and strengths as well as what you enjoy doing. Our church is moving to a new kind of church record keeping solution called Realm. It primarily serves the administrative needs of our staff, but it also offers some exciting opportunities to support the way you are involved in our church. Not only will this improve work life for our ministry staff, it will make it easier for our church family to connect with each other, keep up with what s going on, and grow as a connected community of believers. More information will be coming your way between now and launch day of February 17. 7

8 Souperbowl of Caring - Congregation Members are invited next week, Sunday, February 3, to bring a canned good for donation to Good Samaritan Ministry (canned corn, chicken noodle soup, canned tuna or chicken, peanut butter and jelly, canned fruit or fruit cocktail, canned green beans, pork and beans, tomato soup), placing in designated boxes for either the Patriots or Rams. The youth will count up cans and report results the following Sunday! Youth Super Bowl Party - Sunday evening, February 3 beginning at 6:00pm, the youth will host a Super Bowl Party in the FLC. The game, recreation and many other free-play activities will be available, concluding with a devotion at halftime. All you need to bring is a snack to share and a canned good (see list above) toward your team of choice! Confirmation Program - Beginning Sunday February 10 during discipleship hour for all 6 th to 8 th grade youth who have not participated in confirmation in the past. Church Family, Thank you for participating in our Connection Carnival! We had 56 different areas of ministry represented! It was a wonderful way to learn about how our church is serving people outside of our congregation and how we are ministering to one another. God is doing amazing things through ORUMC! Thank you to the many hands that made our event possible. Thank you for hosting tables, serving food, taking photos, donating door prizes, and helping with set up and clean up. 10 Camp GuilRock Camp GuilRock is a 210-acre camp located in Reidsville, North Carolina, located just North of the Rockingham-Guilford County line. The property includes an 8-acre lake, 2 smaller lakes and borders the Haw River on the North side. The Camp was incorporated in January of 1970 when United Methodists from Guilford and Rockingham counties had the vision to develop a Christian outdoor education and spiritual growth camp. Our board of directors oversees the camp and is made up of laity from the Northern Piedmont district of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. The camp employs a full time director, Eric Hearn, who manages the day-to-day operation of the camp. Although affiliated with the United Methodist Church, Camp GuilRock is open to all people regardless of their religious affirmations. Our mission statement is "Discover Creation, Experience God, Grow in Faith". Groups of all ages enjoy various activities at Camp GuilRock including camping, swimming in our pool (seasonal), canoeing and kayaking, volleyball, gaga ball, hiking, fossil digging, archery, fishing and picnicking. We also offer hayrides, bonfires and challenge course activities. Camp GuilRock regularly hosts retreats, scout groups, family reunions and birthday parties. Summer Day Camp, our newest ministry program, offers 8 weeks of adventure for rising K-6 th graders. Not only does it share the love of Christ with children in their formative years but it also provides the opportunity for high school and college-aged counselors to grow in Christian leadership. Camp GuilRock, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, is funded through fees, donations from camp supporters and support from the WNCC. More information on our ministry can be found by visiting 10
