5 Sermon Notes This week will be different because my take home from Sunday is Announcements Fellowship Time - You are invited to our fellowship time that is held between worship services. This is a time to visit with friends and meet new ones! We'll have the coffee pot on and some breakfast goodies available in the Café from 8:30 8:55am and from 10:00 10:30am. We will also have coffee in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the 8:15 worship service. Wherever you head for fellowship time, we welcome you and encourage you to come! Welcome Home Celebration Today following the service, please join us for lunch and reconnecting with your ORUMC church family. Revival Tonight through Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00pm. See insert for guest speakers and special music. Feed & Seed - ORUMC's Weekly Fellowship Dinner is BAAACK! Join us Wednesday, September 12 from 5:30-6:30pm in the FLC. This week s menu: Chicken Souvlaki Skewers/Hummus/Tzatziki/Pita Bread/Greek Salad/Pasta Salad/Green Beans/Rice/Dessert. The cost is $5 per person (family maximum of $20). Additional donations are always welcome! Please sign up on the back of the Connection Card, sign up on the website at or contact Tara in the church office by Monday afternoon. Deadline is 4:30pm. Cookout - Monday evening, September 17 with the Bowden UMAR Group Home ladies and the Westridge UMAR Group Home gentlemen at the Oak Ridge Town Park. Also, we are looking for men that would be willing to visit the gentlemen once a month in a similar way that the women visit the ladies once a month. It is such a wonderful experience! Please get in touch with Pastor Christi or with Lynne Toth if you are interested in coming to the cookout and/or interested in visiting either the ladies or the gentlemen once a month. 5

6 GLOW (God. Love. Our. Worship.) Beginning Wednesday, September 19 from 6:00-7:00pm for children in Kindergarten through 5 th grade. Kids will experience playing chimes/bells, singing, games, devotion moment and practice for our Children s Christmas program, Star Search. New SHORT-TERM Discipleship Opportunity - Emotionally Healthy Spirituality by Peter Scazzero. This is a 10-week study beginning Wednesday, September 19 from 6:30 8:00pm in Room F219. For more information, contact Herb McClintick at popeherbster1@yahoo.com. Flu Vaccines - Free Flu vaccines will be offered at the September 26 Feed and Seed. This is an annual event coordinated by the congregational nurse program and CVS. You must be 14 years of age or older to receive the vaccine. Regular and senior vaccines will be available. Preventive health is our number one goal. Hope to see you there. Live Wires Trip to Lazy 5 Ranch in Mooresville, NC on Friday, September 28. We will be leaving at 8:00am and should be back around 3:00pm. Cost is $10 plus lunch on your own at Cracker Barrel. Register with Tara in the church office by September 24. Local Outreach Service Opportunity - Greensboro Urban Ministries is open and need helpers to prepare and serve dinner on October 5. Due to Northwest home football schedule, many of the original groups are unable to participate. Please contact Alison at or Alison.Huber@Sprint.com if interested. Small groups or Sunday School classes would be ideal. Food will be provided. College Student Addresses We would like to get a list of addresses for your college students. Please Kim at kim.barnes@oakridgeumc.org with this information. The Backpack Ministry is in need of school supplies - Pencils, glue sticks, kid s scissors, erasers and eraser caps, loose leaf paper, composition notebooks, pencil pouches, and highlighters. New or gently used backpacks are also greatly appreciated. If you have any spare supplies, please put in the cubby by the office. Bread of Life Ministry - As part of Oak Ridge United Methodist Church s mission for servant outreach, the Bread of Life Meal Ministry assists church member facing crises, illness, recovering from surgery, homebound, or other situations by providing them a meal. In support of this ministry, we are urgently seeking volunteers to provide a meal to those who need our support. 7 Can Soda & Bottled Water Drive - The Ridge is collecting cases of soda and water for the teens that attend the Running Wild Back to School Bash September 16. Our goal is to collect 300 sodas and 300 bottles of water. Please drop off all donations to the Youth Lounge. Any and all donations are welcome! 8 Mission of the Month: - NW Guilford Area Backpack Ministry NWGABP Ministry served over 150 children last year and this year we not only aim to increase that number, but the Ministry will be increasing the amount of food we provide each week. ORUMC and the community make this possible through their generous food donations and financial support. Over 16% of the students in our area schools are at risk for going hungry. Your contributions will feed children at Oak Ridge, Stokesdale and Summerfield Elementary and Northwest Middle School and High School as well as Northern Middle School. Currently we are also talking to other schools to see if we can help. Please continue to assist us in reducing childhood hunger in the Northwest Guilford Area by filling a grocery bag (see list) and/or making a financial donation. Grab a bag from an ORUMC lobby and return it by September 30. Note: all bags can be returned to any of the lobbies in the designated areas at any time during the month of September. If you would like to make a monetary donation, please grab one of our sponsorship forms or go to the ORUMC website for details.
