1 From the Desk of Pastor Tim Bowman: N E W With the help of the Elders and the Pastors we have formed a Transition Team. The Transition Team is composed of Penny Birky, Travis Carlstrom, Jason Conant, Karen Demick, Peg Engberg, Merlyn Haight, Joy Hamik, David Hughes, and Amanda Teel. This team is already assisting me in working on assessment tools that we will be using. We will have our first meeting in early November. The Transition Team will be focusing on evaluation of the church with the purpose of examining the church s vision for the future. This is all preparatory work that will culminate in the Transition Team making recommendations to the Elders and/or the church about areas on which we need to focus in the future as well as laying the groundwork for the Pastoral Search Team. Please be praying for them as we do this important ground work for the future. S L E T Welcome Family & Friends Soup Supper & Thanksgiving Service Sunday, November 22 5:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall We will share a time of fellowship and giving thanks to the Lord for all His blessings! Soups will be provided. Families are asked to bring a dessert to share. If you d like to help with set-up or clean-up, please notify Cindi Salazar or the office. T E R OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD National Collection Week ~ November Please bring filled boxes to the Hastings EFC no later than Sunday, November 22 nd. 4 Movie Night The Good Lie PG-13 Saturday Night, November 14 th, 6:30 PM in the Sanctuary The Good Lie is a movie about the Lost Boys of Sudan. Many of these boys found their way to the United States as refugees. In this movie, you will watch the story of three Sudanese men as the work through the process of moving to the U.S. and the woman who helps them along the way. We will be blessed to have Tim Garrett, one of our missionaries that serves with the mission organization Frontiers, join us with three of his friends from Kansas City. One is a Sudanese pastor, another is one of the actual Lost Boys and the other is a child that played in the movie. We will watch the movie and hear from them personally. They will also join us on Sunday morning and share during the sermon time. Due to the fact that this movie is PG-13, we want everyone to make an informed decision as to whether or not to attend. We are providing you a link to a Plugged In movie review. Please read this review so that you will be aware of any objectionable content. Hard copies of this review are also available at the welcome desk. You can also go to the home page on our website and watch a movie trailer and story about the movie. Grab your dark shades and go undercover to join the exciting Christmas mission of We Three Spies. Agents E, L and F are recruits with the CIK (Christmas Intelligence Kids), a covert group of spies who secretly bring Christmas cheer to the needy. But this year they re facing an especially difficult challenge: keeping Ms. Harriet (pronounced Har-ret ) King, a Scrooge-like landlord, from evicting them from their headquarters, confiscating donations, and cancelling their Christmas Nativity program. It takes a little expert espionage and a lot of God s unconditional love for Ms. King to change her tune as she finally joins the CIK and the entire town in a musical celebration of the true meaning of Jesus birth. We Three Spies is the latest creation from the acclaimed children s writer Christy Semsen as she once again combines delightful storytelling, clever songs, and spot-on spiritual truth. Daniel Semsen created dynamic accompaniment tracks that are worthy of the latest spy movie score! Invaluable information in the all you can ask for Teacher s Resource Kit, as well as demonstration performances, choreography, and more on the Instructional DVD, will guide you through every step of the production process with confidence. This Christmas, your classified mission should you choose to accept it is to join We Three Spies as they blow their cover to proclaim joy to the world! Our children s choir will perform this musical on Saturday, December 12 6:30 PM and Sunday, December 13 6:30 PM. Invite family, friends and neighbors for this fun evening.
