1 Calvary s Light MONTHLY NEWSLETTER CALVARY BIBLE CHURCH OCTOBER 2018 ELDER EXPRESS One of the biggest beefs God had with the Hebrews in the Old Testament was the lack of heart they put into their worship. Yes, they went through the mo ons. Yes, they followed the prescribed ordinances and procedures and regula ons. But there was no heart. They were all about going through the right mo ons and knowing about God, but when it came to really KNOWING God they fell flat. And it angered God. Sickened Him, in fact. He despised their worship and rejected it. Fast forward to the church in the 21 st century. Not Calvary Bible Church, but The Church. Has much changed about the way we worship? It s an honest ques on. Don t be quick to answer. Ponder it. Meditate on it. Look inside and answer honestly. In Ephesians 5 Paul writes at length about The Church being the body of Christ and Jesus being the head of that body. We are the body of Christ. Think about that. Let it sink in. We are His hands and feet, His eyes and mouth. We are the body through which He Jesus, the King of kings, Lord of lords has chosen to minister to a hur ng, lost, dying world. Do you marvel at that? Is that humbling? The body is nothing without the head. It only receives instruc ons from that head. Without the Pg 7, 8 CBC Calendar CBC Marketplace head the body lies limp and useless. How does that work? Why has Christ chosen us to be His body? In verse 32 of Ephesians 5 Paul calls it a profound mystery. But it should inspire awe and wonder in us. When we meditate on who Jesus is and who we are in comparison and then realize that He has chosen us to be His body... it should drop us to our knees in humble submission to our Head.

2 It should change the way we worship individually and corporately. But does it? Again, it s an honest ques on. Do we worship Him sincerely or do we come to church do we gather as believers, as His body and go through programmed mo ons? Do we look at the gathering of the body as a duty we can check off or as a devo on to our Lord, Savior, Head? We each must answer honestly. Now, let s zero in on Calvary Bible Church. As elders our heart is that we would be a body in full submission to Christ, our Head. We desire our worship to be honest, sincere, and holy. We desire to be a body used by Christ to minister to those in our gathering and outside our gathering, to encourage and equip the saints and to reach the sinner with the Good News of Jesus. Please, join us in praying for our church, this body we call Calvary Bible Church. Please, join us in each one examining our own heart, our own mo ves, our own sincerity. Being the body of Christ is not a one day a week deal, it s a lifelong sacred privilege that should influence every moment of every day, every thought and every ac vity. We are His to be used as He desires. Now, some news to relate to you: The Caring Fund love offering that was given totaled $3,839! We are praising God for the faithfulness of His saints in providing such generous funds that will aid so many folks. In the coming weeks we (the elders) will be making available to you the proposed changes to our church s cons tu on. We will have a Q & A session where you can ask ques ons about the proposed changes. We will also hold a vote on those proposed changes. Please note the dates in this newsle er and be prepared. As always, we welcome your ques ons or comments. If you have concerns, please talk to us. We want to hear from you. 4 Upcoming Events WAC Service on Saturday, Oct. 13 Our theme this year for the World Awareness Conference, Our Hope, Our Response, begs us all to respond to the Hope that is in each of us. We want to give everyone the opportunity to use the gi s God has given them during WAC s Service on Saturday, October 13.
