2 From Your Pastor Today, when you arose out of bed, what was your #1 concern? Did you immediately begin to think of all the things that have piled up on your to do list? Did you remember that you have to pick the grandkids up from school, or that today is your day to go grocery shopping? There is no doubt that our days and our lives can fill up pretty fast and that we can busy ourselves with a lot of mundane activities. But perhaps, as we go and as we do. As we run to Wal-Mart and visit the doctor s office, maybe our #1 concern should always be the opportunity to impact someone else s life with the gospel. There are so many men and women who we encounter everyday who have never been shown the way to salvation. But instead of focusing on our mission to Go and Tell we become overly entertained with our day to day lives. Jim Elliot senses this apathy for souls amongst the people of America, and he says in a letter to his parents in the fall of 1950 Oh that God would shake up some of those married couples around Portland (Jim s hometown) with their prim unconcern for souls and saints, dabbling with building lots, houses, jobs, babies, silverware - while souls starve for what they know! 1 Men and women all across the globe are starving for the things we teach our Kindergartners in Sunday school. To know that Jesus Christ stepped out of heaven and took on flesh, lived and died in our place and for our sins, so that we might be free from our sins and reunited with a God who loves us. Rocket Science? NO...those are simple facts, easily understandable even by the simplest mind. But they are facts that millions of men and women have never heard. I hope and pray, that God would stir our hearts, not for buildings or programs, not for houses or cars, but for sinners and souls. That the #1 concern every morning when the men and women of our church arise would be the eternal destinies of their neighbors, friends, acquaintances, and fellow shoppers. LifeBook Youth Rally Angel Tree Names Names for the Angel Tree will be available Sunday, November 14, on the window of the church office. We ask that you only take one child s name per family. You are asked to purchase toys for these children, wrap them, place a card on them with only the child s name. Gifts are to be brought during the Morning Worship Sunday, December 12. Poinsettia s We once again will be using live poinsettias as decorations in the sanctuary for Christmas this year. Please place your order in the church office. Please be present for all rehearsals if possible. Christmas Time At FBC! Deck the Halls of FBC will be held on Sunday, November 28 beginning at 5:00 p.m. we will decorate the church and sing Christmas carols/hymns while we decorate. Our intent is to relax and fellowship while we decorate our church. Please make plans to attend. We will have punch and cookies in the fellowship hall when we finish. Youth! It is finally here! This Sunday evening at 6:00, our church will be hosting the kick-off rally for the Life Book project. Students from many Perry County churches will gather for a time of fellowship, worship, preaching and prayer. Adults, please join us to encourage and pray for these young people. I believe that God is going to do great things at the schools in Perry County. We are meeting some resistance; this only means that Satan is fighting hard to prevent the spreading of the Good News. Please continue to pray for all involved in this event. Also, pray that God would change the hearts and minds of the ones leading the resistance. Our God is an awesome God!!! 5 Turkey Give-Away First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville will be distributing 160 turkeys for the holiday season. These turkeys will be distributed on Saturday, November 13, at 10:00 a.m. in the parking lot of the church. The turkeys are provided at no cost to the public, but quantities are limited. We recognize the abundant ways in which our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has blessed our church, and we want to extend that blessing to our community. We hope you will take a few moments to stop by and see us at 105 S. Mill St. In Pinckneyville on Saturday morning, November 14. Volunteers - We are planning to meet at the church at 9:00 a.m. in the morning to gather the turkeys, and then return to the church in time to hand them out. We are in need of people to handle the turkeys, people to help control the flow of traffic, and people who will simply mingle and display the love of Christ. I hope you will take some time away to join us next weekend. Maybe together we can all be a part of advancing the kingdom of Christ, to the glory of the Father!
