3 PASTOR S MESSAGE Our Posture of Thanksgiving Often Jesus teaches us about the value of thanksgiving. At the heart of the Our Father is a sincere response of thanksgiving for all that God has blessed us with: gift of life, health, purpose in life and the graces necessary to accomplish it. Every time we pray we should make it a prayer of thanksgiving for truly we are all recipients of God s generosity. We are also reminded that as we say Thank you for gifts received, we acknowledge the responsibility to be generous ourselves with that which we have been given. Our national celebration of Thanksgiving reminds us of kindnesses and assistance given to our Pilgrim ancestors whose very life was a gift from the Native Americans who protected them and fed them in the face of starvation. When we enjoy our festive meal, we can also share of its abundance as we reach out with concern and material assistance to the poor and starving throughout the world. Thanksgiving truth is to acknowledge all we have received and an opportunity to use it to accomplish great good in a troubled world. Msgr. Michael D. McGraw Where Are You Seeking Your Rest Today? CLERGY DEVOTION As we ready ourselves for the end of the Church s Liturgical Year our readings invite us to carefully prepare ourselves for the end of time. However, what will the end of time look like? The first reading describes it in terms of people waking up from sleep. There is going to be a time of great distress, and of those who lie sleeping in the dust of the earth, many will awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting disgrace. Not just in our own day, but even at the end of time, some people will wake up well, and others very poorly. Some will find safety and others disgrace. Indeed, what makes all the difference is where people choose to find rest? Disgrace is found by those who seek refuge only in passing things that do not last. In the gospel, Jesus goes so far as to say that even heaven and earth will pass away. Everything about this passing life will eventually be no more, even our beautiful houses, in which we take such pride. There will come a time when it will no longer be here. But, if this is true, where then are we to seek rest and find safety when we finally wake up from sleep? The only truly restful and safe place is to be found in God alone. More specifically, we only arrive at true safety when we rest in our Lord. As He tells us in the gospel, heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. The Lord s words do not pass away, because they are not mere words. They are matched by His single act of undying love. So dear brothers and sisters, where are you seeking your rest today? Fr. Dominic Toan-Tran 3 PASTORAL STAFF Msgr. Michael D. McGraw, Fr. Dominic Toan-Tran, Fr. Martin Dunne III, Deacon Bill Watzek, Deacon Michael Zatarga

7 End of year/christmas Gifts to SJA Donor will match all donations up to $35,000! Back in the 50 s a group of generous and forward thinking Catholics living in Boca Raton decided they needed a local church. Today that church has grown and flourished, is a vibrant Catholic Community offering many programs, events, and services to its parishioners. Back in the 50 s when the Church first began a dollar offered in the basket went a lot further than it does today. Because of the increase in the cost of living our offertory only supports a portion of the funds needed. In addition to the weekly offertory we have to rely on individual donations and fundraisers to support the Church and School. This year we are sending out an End of Year Christmas donation request. The reason we are sending you this request is three-fold, December, is typically the time of year when individuals review their charitable donations and make additional gifts before year end to reduce their taxes, donations will help keep many SJA programs funded into the New Year, and this year donations will also assist with emergency maintenance projects that arose due to substantial leaks in the Church. Additional reasons to share your generosity before January: 1. Funding will enable positive impacts on our community. If you re like most people, you want to make a difference in the world, what a better place to start than your spiritual home. Making a donation to will help finance the ministries, events, and programs that benefit the entire SJA community. The Church also funds the Care Ministry s operating expenses so you are also helping those in the larger community who are in need. Please don t worry about not having thousands to give even small donations can go a long way. 2. Doing something good is good for your health. Research has proven that giving actually improves our body chemistry. When we make charitable donations, it activates the pleasure regions of the brain. Donating may actually improve physical health because it can help reduce stress, which has long been linked to health problems. 3. Tax benefits. Donating now can also ensure that you have enough tax deductions for Donations made before December 31, 2018 count toward the 2018 tax year and by making a charitable donation your taxable income will be reduced. Of course deductions change depending on income level, donation amount, and other variables. It is best to check with your accountant about how much you ll be able to claim for the donation. 4. Employer donation matches make your gift go farther. Many employers match a certain percentage of monetary gifts given by employees to the nonprofit of the employee s choice. Ask your human resources department about an employee gift match. 5. Matching Gift Challenge. A donor has stepped forward and has agreed to match all End of Year gifts up to $35,000. If we raise the $35,000 this will pay for the repairs to the church stucco, sealing and painting as well as the refinishing of the coquina on the floor of the church sanctuary and entrance. When you are making plans for your end of year gifts please remember. We need your help to continue to offer the services and programs that are synonymous with. Donations can be made on the SJA web site at by clicking on the donate button. You can also mail or deliver your donation to the Parish Office. And you can also drop your donation in the Sunday Collection basket but please make sure to mark the envelope Christmas or End of year gift. Wendy Horton - Director of Development & Stewardship

Feliz Domingo.
