5 As we begin to practice spending time in His presence, renewing our minds in His Word and listening for His voice, we gain trust and confidence. By developing a daily practice of expressing our love for Him, our heart begins to reflect His heart. Through active and purposeful living, we remain mindful of pleasing Him in obedience and love as we move in compassion within our circle of influence. Inwardly When we worship God inwardly, we commune with Him and He changes us from the inside out. He transforms us by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). This beautiful, transforming relationship begins with humbling ourselves in repentance and reverence. As we practice spending time in His presence, renewing our minds in His Word and listening for His voice, we gain trust and confidence. We start to develop an attitude of patience and faith, the ability to forgive others as well as ourselves, and a healing that inspires us to bear spiritual fruit that pleases Him. Upwardly As our relationship with God draws closer, and we seek to worship God upwardly, we reach for Him both literally and figuratively. We offer a sacrifice of praise (Hebrews 13:15). Our worship may become more demonstrative as we praise with our voice and with outstretched hands. We acknowledge Him with awe and wonder, expressing the joy we have found in our salvation as we pursue communication through prayer, offers of thanksgiving, and quiet resting, waiting on His voice. By developing a daily practice of expressing our love for Him, our heart begins to reflect His heart. Outwardly Through active and purposeful living, we do not conform to the pattern of this world but we test and approve what God s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:2). As we remain mindful of pleasing Him, we move in compassion within our circle of influence, no matter how big or small that circle may be. Whether it s witnessing in word or deed, tithing, donating talents or other resources, sharing the gospel, or being kind, these outward expressions of worship help us share the character of Christ to the world, drawing others to Him by offering love and hope. Worshipping God is so much more than a song service, although our corporate praise is critical to our Christian walk. But think of it this way: One of the best ways to learn a foreign language is to use the immersion process, in which we eat, breathe and sleep that foreign language. It s the same with worship. If we desire to transform our lives into the image of Christ, we need to have constant movement toward God, seeking to reflect His character as we become more like Him in the ultimate act of worship, submission that leads to transformation offering back to God that which He has given us. This is... true and proper worship (Romans 12:1).
