1 November 2016 Pastor Paul Found on our Website under Media Dear Hosanna Family, So How s your Love Life? Maybe that seems like a pretty personal question to ask but it s still the question we will take some time to think through and examine throughout November. Now, please understand what I m really asking about as I repeat that question over and over throughout this month. I m really asking you to examine your life, your Christian life, in light of the calling that God has given us. He said, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and Love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:37-39) This will be a focus on Thankfulness. It s a focus on our true set of core values and beliefs. It s a focus on what matters most and what doesn t need to matter much at all. It s a time to ask yourself if you really believe what we say we believe. And if you really do believe what we say we believe then how does that set of beliefs define your life? The whole thing is really a question of stewardship. Your life of love, your Love Life is seen in the ways in which you live this life in Christ. Now, don t let the word stewardship scare you. Any time a church focuses in on stewardship people tend to clinch down on their wallets and checkbooks and many fear the coming of the big you need to give more money speech. I don t have such a speech planned. But I do plan to ask you to ask yourself, How s your Love Life? Our lives are to be lived out in the light of, and in the love of Jesus Christ. I will spend some time reminding you of just how deeply He has loved you. And we ll re-examine the mission that He has given us to make disciples for Him. And this we do when we love God and love our neighbors as ourselves. Let s let this question lead us toward a Thanksgiving celebration and then onward into the Advent season soon to come.
2 Let s live in the love of Christ who is our life and our salvation. And as we do so, He will be proclaimed in the midst of the ways in which we live this life. Bring a friend, bring a neighbor, bring your family and let s explore the life of love together. Thanks for all the partnership everyone. God s Peace Always. Pastor Paul President Monday night was our annual Trunk or Treat event lots of fun, with a great turnout of children from the neighborhood and our own members. Today is November 1, which means that our annual voters meeting is less than two weeks away. Please plan to attend on November 13 from 9:15-10:15 am, between the two services. It is really important for as much of the church membership as possible to attend, as the meeting involves two important agenda items: approval of the budget and election of officers. The Treasurer s note and financial report provides a good summary of where we are financially and Pastor s narrative budget explains nicely what we plan to do next year. I m pleased that once again, thanks to your faithful and generous giving, we made it through the year without having to borrow against our line of credit. And it is exciting to know that by next October we will have repaid the Campus Development loan in full! We have several vacancies to fill on Council: President, Head of the Board of Trustees, Financial Secretary, and Head of the Board of Stewardship. If you are asked to serve in one of these positions, please prayerfully consider sharing your time and talents with us. And if you are not asked, but feel that God is calling you to serve, contact one of the members of Council to nominate yourself. Council meets once a month, for about 1.5 to 2 hours. These are not boring meetings where you listen to one Board report after another that information is shared in advance via . Instead, our meetings focus on discussing issues for which Pastor and the staff and various Boards want advice. When the meeting ends, you feel like you have actually made a difference. And the meetings are friendly not once during my term has anyone ever raised their voice or gotten into an argument. However, the four positions up for election are not the only opportunity to serve each Board can always use additional members. As Pastor s recent sermon series notes, partnership makes the church s mission more fun and effective. So if you have an interest in our preschool, volunteer to be on the Board of Education. If you have an interest in what goes on to maintain our church facilities, volunteer to join the Board of Trustees. If you think there are other social activities that you would like to see offered, volunteer to be on the Board of Outreach.
3 And if you feel called to get more involved, but just don t know where, talk to our DCE, Sharon Owens, and she can suggest many other ways to become an active member. Thanksgiving is also approaching, and with it the end of the Church year. We have a lot to be thankful for here at Hosanna. We have a wonderful preschool that brings the Good News to youngsters. We have a great Pastor and DCE. Our music program is fantastic. But the paid staff alone cannot effectively carry out our mission to make disciples. We need you to get involved, too. Won t you prayerfully consider whether God is calling you to use your talents to serve Hosanna in one of the ways discussed above? Blessings to you all, Paul Steinbart President, Hosanna Church Council Board of Ed Do you remember the song Count Your Blessings? It went something like this... If you re worried and you can t sleep, Count your blessings instead of sheep, And you ll fall asleep counting your blessings. And God has truly given us so many blessings at Hosanna Church. Now, in this month of Thanksgiving, let us remember to offer our Thanks to our Holy God for these blessings... especially the ones we call, VOLUNTEERS. Let us pray for and give Thanks to all who have donated much of their time, talent, hours of work and effort as well as emotional, material and monetary contributions to our Church so that we may continue to make Hosanna a loving and caring community. Let us remember the goodness and happiness that God has given us through our volunteers and Thank our Heavenly Father for them all. Let us also remember to thank everyone who helped make Trunk or Treat an awesome, outstanding and extremely fun event. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I want to send out a big shout to all the volunteers who made the Trunk or Treat such a huge success this year. With each one of us doing a small part, it made the end result wonderful. The trunks were very creative and festive, the hot dogs. popcorn, nachos, and candy were quite delicious, the bounce houses were a huge happy hit, the gift baskets were received with great joy, youth games and activities were very creative and entertaining, the registration team was delightful and welcoming, and the set up and tear down work load was lightened by additional hands. Everyone of you played a small part in the big picture and your service did not go unnoticed. Thank you once again for your time, gift baskets, candy, water, and dedication to making this event the best ever Trunk or Treat Hosanna has ever had. With your feedback I would like to learn a few things on how to make next year an even greater success. Blessings to all of you, Sharon Owens, DCE
