1 August 2016 Pastor Paul Found on our Website under Media Happy New Year Hosanna! Well, it feels like a new year to me anyway. I love August at Hosanna not only because the heat will fade back to fabulous in another few weeks or six weeks or however many weeks sooner rather than later. But I always love when the new school year begins, families return home from vacations, activities get under way, we start partnering together again on some great kinds of ministry. First, let me tell you about July. We try to keep July kind of quiet to let everyone rest and hide out from the heat. This year July included the National Youth Gathering, re-surfacing the floors of the Learning Center and the school staff doing a tremendous amount in the school to get it ready for the new year painting, decorating classrooms, building some storage shelves, combing through all the materials and reorganizing everything and more. We also said a temporary farewell to some much loved Hosanna family members Bill Uhlig and Dorothy Libby as God received them to their eternal home with Him. We also saw the installation of a brand new organ and it is amazing. We also moved the equivalent of 3 apartments full of furniture thank you to everyone who endured those hot days with us whew. And we still have some furniture to move in the next few days. July was a very busy month for being the so called quiet month. And NOW, into the new school year. We have so much coming up on the schedule special services including the Back to School Blessing and Open House on Saturday August 6 th, other special events, servant projects, outreach projects, in-house needs for so many volunteers ALL of you ministry partners in so many ways. As we enter into the new year, this new day and week and month, we need YOU to step up and help us reach a variety of goals in this mission together. How can you help and how can you be an active part in this ministry of Hosanna? Here are a few places where we need YOU:
2 Worship teams be a greeter, usher, communion server. Easiest and a very important way to serve in our church together. Sunday School Teaching Teams We need many more of you to join our wonderful Sunday School teachers as we share the Word of God and His love with the children He has entrusted to our care. Preschool volunteer readers and as PRAYER PARTNERS for each of the children. This is an easy and a fun way to serve. You just pray and adopt a child to write to and get to know. Confirmation Class I need MANY prayer partners to simply pray for our confirmation students. This is a fun way to serve and it will touch your heart. I promise you. Board of Trustees Help George and the Trustees take care of the grounds and buildings. Servant Hands We have a number of servant projects in the works including service times at Manna From Heaven Food Bank, Feed My Starving Children, Habitat for Humanity, International Friendship House, special events on campus at Hosanna throughout the year, and more. Shoes and Coats It s time to begin collecting some shoes and coats for children in need in our own neighborhood. We work with the nurses at Taft and Stevenson elementary schools to help some children simply have a livable pair of shoes to walk to school in, and a coat to keep the chill away. I know it seems too early to think of cold morning temps as kids walk to school, but it seems to me like time flies faster than I can keep up. Let s collect things now. These are only a few places of need I want to share with you so far. Can you partner with us? Talk to me any time to find a place to connect, join in, be about the work of the harvest with us. Jesus said The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field. (Matthew 9:37-38) As we pray for the workers of the harvest, God shows us each other. It s us. Let s all step up and join together as this harvest work gets back into gear in this new at least in this new school year. God s Peace and Joy be with You. Pastor Paul and the Whole Hosanna Family President August is here hard to believe that for those of us involved in education, summer is over. My, it went way too quickly! But, then, now that I think about it, so does life itself, doesn t it? At least as believers we have the comfort of knowing that not only do we have an eternal life, but that it will be lived in an awesome place. I trust you ve had a great a summer. In a few months we will be welcoming back those of you who leave the Valley when it gets a little warm. We will also be holding Council elections soon. There will be a number of vacancies, including the role of a President. Yes, hard to believe, but my second two-year term is drawing to a close. As I wrote above, time sure does fly by, especially when you are having fun. And while I probably cannot say that Council meetings are 100% fun, I can definitely say that serving on Council is fulfilling and provides the opportunity to get to know and work closely with a number of wonderful fellow believers. So I ask you to begin now to prayerfully consider how you might serve the Lord here at Hosanna. May God continue to bless you, Paul Steinbart President, Hosanna Council
3 Treasurer Message from the Treasurer: Campus Development Fund status: As of July 30 our mortgage balance has been paid down to $59, We are scheduled to make a balloon payment on September 25, 2017 of $38, Our goal is to reduce the mortgage balance to zero prior to the balloon payment date. Currently, in addition to the $250,000+ that has been paid against the mortgage, an additional $30, has been contributed and is currently in LCEF Stewardship accounts to pay the remaining mortgage payments. Including those funds, the total raised to date for the Campus Development Fund is $280, leaving a balance of $29, to be raised. We continue to move closer to our goal. Thanks to all those who have participated in the debt reduction program to date. We have made amazing progress. Let s finish strong. Thrivent Choice Dollars If you are currently a Thrivent Financial customer you may have recently received notification that you have Thrivent Choice Dollars available to be directed. You can direct those Choice Dollars to Hosanna. With Thrivent Choice, you can recommend where some of Thrivent Financial's charitable outreach funds go. Members become eligible for Thrivent Choice based on insurance premiums, contract values and Thrivent volunteer leadership. Eligible members are designated Choice Dollars that they can direct to enrolled charities. There are thousands of participating organizations. You can direct Choice Dollars to as many participating organizations as you'd like, but you may not direct less than five Choice Dollars to an organization. To direct Choice Dollars, sign into your Thrivent account at Scroll down to the Thrivent Choice section of the home page and click on Direct Choice Dollars. Find Hosanna Lutheran Church, Mesa or Little Palms Preschool on the list of Organizations and follow the instructions to direct all or part of your available choice dollars. So far this year we have received $2,715 from Thrivent Choice dollars. The new organ has arrived and has been installed. Hosanna received a donation from one of our member families designated toward the purchase of a new organ. Due to the generosity of our member family, who wish to remain anonymous at this time, the full cost of the organ has been covered. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Please say a prayer of thanksgiving for this act of stewardship. A dedication service will be planned for this fall to demonstrate the capabilities of the new instrument and to feature the talents of our music staff. 4 UPCOMING SERMON SERIES As the new school year begins we ll see students and teachers gather in classrooms to share, to hunger for, to impart to others, or to gain from another WISDOM. The teacher imparts a Word to the Wise. And, God has a Word to the Wise as well. Proverbs 9:9-10 Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Wisdom itself is a gift of God. In fact, God gives us His Holy Word so that HE can impart His Wisdom to US. And in the Bible, God inspired a few writers to write what we call the Wisdom Literature. These include Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. These writing s are designed to give us God s gift of Wisdom. Just as students and teachers gather to gain wisdom on various subjects, God invites you also to sit in the most privileged seat the seat in front of Him. He invites you to sit at His foot and learn and grow in Wisdom and understanding. So join us for this sermon series, A Word to the Wise and gain God s gift of Wisdom for the ways we live our lives of faith out together. See you Sunday.

We are so excited for another year to start at Little Palms Preschool! Join us for the Back to School Blessing on Saturday, August 6 th at 4:00 p.m., followed by an Open House. The classrooms look fantastic so cheery and colorful and so welcoming to the new students and their parents. The first day of School is Monday, August 15 h. Please pray for our teachers and staff and all the students. We are so blessed at Hosanna to offer a Preschool that is based on Christian principles, is affordable, has small class size and loving and experienced teachers. We also are grateful to be able to offer scholarships to help families who need financial assistance. The Lutheran church has a very long history of promoting Lutheran schools so that children can grow up learning about the love of Jesus and studying God s word. We are proud to offer a preschool with many advantages such as kindles, smart boards, creative projects, music, art, science and being able to pray and sing songs about Jesus, our Savior! Our students are also better prepared for kindergarten because of our small class size and specialized curriculum. If you would like to be a part of this exciting ministry, please consider joining our Board of Education. We meet only once a month for about an hour and a half. We would enjoy your thoughts on how we can improve our school and continue to offer the best preschool education in the East Valley! Join us also as we start a new worship schedule starting August 7 th. 8:00 am will be the Liturgical Worship, at 9:30 there will be a Sunday School teachers meeting for anyone interested in being on our Crosswalk Educational hour teams (Sunday School), and then at 10:30 our Praise Worship. Sunday, August 21st we begin our Educational hour at 9:30. There will be Bible classes for all ages. Be a part of this exciting hour each Sunday! Thank you, and may God continue to bless our church and school! We give thanks to Him for His faithfulness to us every day. With a grateful heart, Cindy Koch
