The Campus Rejuvenation Fund Project met the revised deadline of collecting $50,000 by Christmas! The Lord has truly blessed us! Our goal was to raise $50,000 by Thanksgiving Christmas to match the $50,000 donation from our anonymous benefactor. This is an amazing amount from a small congregation. It truly shows how blessed we are and how much people care about Beautiful Savior. A big thank-you to everyone who has contributed, volunteered during fund raising activities, and especially to our anonymous benefactor. The (preliminary) break-out of the funds collected is as follows: Original Donation: $ 50, Direct Donations: $ 42, PTC Projects (Rummage Sale, etc.): $ 2, Dinners (Lent, Soup Dinners, etc.): $ Jazz and Chocolate Concert: $ 1, Jazz and Gospel Concert: $ 1, Memorials: $ 1, Fish Fry (Net after expenses): $ Account Interest: $ Total: $101, Now that we've reached the goal, we will start planning how to use this wonderful gift. The committee members include Debbie Bergman, Joe Carlin, Debbie O Neill, Phyllis Schinke, Greg Schutkowski, Jim Schutkowski, and Jim Timm. The committee will begin meeting in January The committee's

2 assignment will be to gather ideas, prioritize and evaluate each for cost and merit, and make recommendations to the Voters on how we use the collected money. Thank you, Dorothy HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DECEMBER 2018 COUNCIL MEETING The BSLC Council met on December 18th. Highlights from that meeting are: Pastor Misch gave an opening devotion reminding us to think about our purpose and relationship with Jesus Christ. Christmas Eve services at noon and 8 PM. Christmas Day service with communion at 10 A.M. Pastor and Ellen met to plan Advent and Christmas services Pastor met with two Camp ALOMA representatives. The Camp is hosting Weldon House women and children the first weekend in January. Volunteers are needed to hold babies. 25 caps have been donated to the group. Sharon Owens suggested a game night for ASU students in response to the Elders question on how to help the Lutheran Ministry at ASU. Treasurer and Board of Finance reported we are in the negative for the year by $7000. The loan balance is below $5000. Funds in the designated Missions account (these are donations given through the Mission envelopes in the offering envelopes boxes) have been distributed. An extra $300 to each mission in addition to the budgeted mission giving. Matching Fund is at $97,000. Stewardship reported a new contact person at Gililland School who has introduced himself to Pastor, Marsha, and Gladys. He has given a list of needed items to Gladys. She will take the items we have already collected to him and use remaining funds authorized this summer for additional items. Offering envelopes for 2020 have been ordered. The LWML will meet on January 19th with Sharon Owens as the speaker. Hostesses and a devotion leader are needed for this meeting. The LWML Zone Board of Directors will meet at Beautiful Savior on January 5th. A speaker from Camp ALOMA will be at the February LWML meeting. Positive Thinking Committee commended for organizing the church decorating party. Campus Rejuvenation Committee members include Jim Timm, Joe Carlin, Debbie O Neill, Phyllis Schinke, Greg Schutkowski, Jim Schutkowski. 4 STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE: STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE January, 2019 The old year is past, gone forever. No one can go back in time. No one can do what he should have done or undo what he shouldn t have done. All of us have regrets, and the Apostle Paul was no exception. He offers us a new perspective, though. He writes, Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on forward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Then he adds this counsel: All of us who are mature should take such a view of things (Philippians 3:13b-15). A new year offers a new start for many of us. Like Paul, we forget what is behind and strain toward what is ahead. Through Christ, Who has paid the penalty for our sins, the slate is clean; we can forget about the past. We are new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) ready to go forward in His strength to serve Him with the gifts He has given us. Stewardship Committee plans to continue in 2019 with projects in the Outreach into the Community program. The new liaison of Gililland Middle School contacted the Committee and gave ideas on what items are needed for their drive store. Because of the assistance and donations by the members of Beautiful Savior Church in 2018, many things were accomplished. Thank you everyone! Stewardship Committee: Grace Timm, Gladys Meyer, Dorothy McShee LWML PRAYER CHAIN Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church has a Prayer Chain sponsored by Lutheran Women in Mission. The purpose of the Prayer Chain is to pray for others, sharing their burdens and their joys. Prayers can be for sickness/surgery, dying/death, newborns, happiness/thankfulness and disasters to mention a few. Twenty-six people make up the LWML Prayer Chain. New members are always welcome the more people who pray, the better. To join, call Gladys at or geneglad@q.com and give your desire whether to receive the requested prayer by telephone or . To request a prayer, call Gladys at one of the contacts above or Pastor Zach on or Prayer requests are accepted any time and forwarded to the members as soon as possible. Prayer requests can also be given to Gladys on Sunday and will be included in the Monday Prayer, which includes a mini devotion, and is circulated to all prayer chain members. God welcomes your prayers. He listens to and answers all prayers in His own way and own time. This is the confidence we have in approaching God, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us, (I John 5:14). Gladys Meyer, Prayer Chain Leader

5 WOMEN IN MISSION ( LWML) Beautiful Savior Women in Mission hosted the annual Christmas potluck dinner on Dec. 2nd. Many thanks to all who contributed their delicious dishes to this event! And to PTC for help with clean up! Our first meeting of 2019 will be on January 19th at 10 AM. Our speaker will be Sharon Owens of Lutheran Ministry at ASU. Hostesses are needed for this meeting as well as an opening devotion leader. Please contact Sandra if you can help. The February meeting will be on Saturday, the 16th with Leah McKean of Camp Aloma. She will update us on the activities there. If you would like to serve as hostess or present the opening devotion, please let Sandra know. In 2018, Beautiful Savior contributed $ in mites to District and National LWML mission grants.! Thank you for your support of the LWML! First, Thank You, Kathy Held and Bobbie Littou (when not singing in the choir), for volunteering. Our volunteers for greeting have diminished, at this time we have four people on a regular basis. So, I am looking for volunteers to greet on Sunday mornings. Below are the tasks of greeting. Arrive by 9:30 a.m. Smile and say good morning (or a greeting that you are comfortable with) Hand out bulletins (we have regular and large print) Help if you see someone who might need help, such as, the door opened, etc. Go into the church 3-5 minutes prior to start of worship; make sure the bulletins are toward the front of the table, so if someone comes in after the service begins they will see them and pick one up. 7 PASTOR MISCH: Starting Fresh: Happy new year. With the new year comes the image of a fresh start. One will try to put the past year behind them and go into the new year with an excitement of starting again hoping to change action and behavior. I was talking to the boyfriend of one of my wife s cousins. He is from Guatemala and I asked him about traditions surrounded Christmas and New Year s. And he told me that in his family on new years each family member receives a rag doll and then burns it on new year s eve after the clock strikes midnight. They do this to symbolize starting new and leaving all the bad of the past year behind them. This is apparently a popular activity in the Latin American countries. The transition of one year to another can take can look different for different people, but I wonder, do we have anything we wish we leave behind like the past year? Maybe last year was a rough year? Maybe the year was full of sickness and health issues? Maybe there was a death in the family? Maybe the political climate and what happened in our nation makes us hope for something new this year? Yet again maybe we wish to leave behind some shame or guilt that accompanied us this past year? Whatever it is we can easily focus on the past and desire for a new future but sometimes it is difficult to let go of what has happened. Sometimes our focus can be on not repeating the mistakes of the past that we can have a hard time trusting in God as we move into the future. The past has this way of tempting us to focus solely on it so much so that we are unable to see the direction God is leading us. As we move into the new year, maybe weary of what it might bring and bringing the baggage of the past with us, hear the words of encouragement of Moses to Joshua as Joshua is being prepared to take the leadership role and lead the Israelites into the promised land. It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. Happy New Year. Pastor Misch
